I like that's it's a 4 year deal opposed to the usual 5 year.

By the time he's an exp. deal Leonard should be more than ready.

I'm luke warm on this. I like that we're pursuing one of the bigger names, and an Aldridge/Hibbert front line sounds nice, but at $15M per year? Does anyone really believe Hibbert will contribute to the team's success more than Aldridge?

There's some flawed thinking at play here, I fear. At $15M, you should be able to get a very high impact player. Yeah, it's nice to have one of the better centers, but OKC and Miami just showed us that an athletic lineup is better than a non-dominant center. There are very few centers in the league right now that have that kind of impact, so what are you really getting for a premium price at that position?

I love it if he comes here. Then if any way way get igoudala we are serious in the west again

So I still don't understand what happens if Batum signs his offer sheet (From who ever) the same day Hibbert signs ours. We just simply lose out on Batum?

man, I dont get all the Hibbert hate. The guy is the 4th best or at worst 5th best Center in the league. He would be a perfect compliment to LMA.

Under the new CBA the longest someone can offer a non-bird right player is 4 years. Regardless, the length fits in well with the long-term plan.

Not al all, whether we sign Hibbert or not we can match Batum, if it's 12 mil for Nic I asy adios Bic, rather have Hibbert for a little bit more

1. If Pacers match, then we lose out on Hibbert.
2. If Pacers don't match, then we get Hibbert.
3. We can still go over the cap to match Nic's deal even after getting Hibbert.

A top-5 center who is just now entering his prime.

This is what they are usually paid. It's not a bad contract.

Then why did we care if he waited a day to sign. Wasn't that a concern?

Yeah, I don't quite get it either. These same people are saying that Nic is a bargain at 11 mil per year. Here are the facts. He is 7'2". He's a shot blocker. He's a rebounder. He's a defender. He takes up a ton of space. He can get you 12-15 a night. And that fact is, his over all impact will far greater than that of Nicholas's when it all counts.

okay so say both hibbert and nic sign their offer sheets at the same time

then indiana waits till the last possible minute to decline to match

blazers would have no time to match nic after

To me it's similar to signing Dikembe Mutumbo to this kind of contract. Dike before hitting his prime was worth it. So is Roy.

Blazers can match Nic no matter what. They can go over the cap to sign him.

That's old CBA pricing, though. $15M for a good but not great player is a path toward an inflexible roster for 2-3 years.

A seven footer who does all these things shot blocking, rebounding, defending, scoring, taking up space, impacting the game defensively. I'm fine tyeing my money up with. How many of those are in the league

Yes, but you sign Batum first, you can't sign Hibbert. So Blazers need to make sure they'll know on Hibbert first. If Minne is offering $12 million per, you tell him you'll match but please don't sign offer sheet. We want to pay him and improve the team.

That's his point.

It's a timing thing though... If we had to match Nic's offer first (say he signed just before Roy did), that could put us over the cap, where we wouldn't be able to offer Roy his max deal. Roy would need to sign "first".

To answer the original 'what if' - if they both signed "at the same time" I would imagine, given the spirit of the rule (providing the 'home' team the greatest ability to hang onto its players) that we'd still get some sort of right of refusal for Nic.

Nic signing first outright however, could be bad news - unless we could somehow talk KP and Donnie into waiving their 72 hours on Roy...

We should offer KP's last Blazers top pick back to him if he'll decline to match on Hibbert.

basically we need roy to sign that offer sheet at the first possible moment

It all comes down to Batum wanting to be a Blazer or not. My bet's yes.

I have a feeling that even if we do land Hibbert........ Paul won't let Nic get away! He loves Nic more then he loved Miles!
