European whites are born with more genetically gifted athletes. I forgot.

I'm pretty sure the entire premise MM was arguing was that white, American centers suck/are below average/perform worse than their draft position. Sabas was previously mentioned. That's why Pau Gasol has as much bearing in the conversation as slypokerdog does.

"They've got no idea what it's all about. The white guys, they work hard, but they don't have the talent. And the rest of them? Who knows what to expect? They're not good for much of anything."

Mike Wells, Pacers beat writer at Indianapolis Star.
Twitter posts from today:

Question: I'm seeing confusion from some fans as to whether Roy actually verbally agreed or not with POR. Can you clear this up? Thanks
Mike Wells ‏@MikeWellsNBA
Roy will be signing his offer sheet July 11. He's not meeting w any other teams.

Question: Some seem to think he's still negotiating with Indiana and only 'leaning towards' the POR offer. AKA not locked in on PORs max
Mike Wells ‏@MikeWellsNBA
@HicksPD nope. Indy offered first. Portland came in w better offer, Roy agreed to it. Now the ball is in Indy's hands to decide to match

Question: gut reaction, do you think Indy matches?”
Mike Wells ‏@MikeWellsNBA
“No

Question: if they dont match, u think kaman is replacment?”
Mike Wells
"yes"

This makes me so happy! Getting Hibbert is like getting a healthy Oden back but more polished and playoff tested.

Yea... Oden was on a hole different level then hibbert. Hibbert is awesome but an injury free Oden would have been a freak.
I do want hibbert in a blazers uni as much as I wanted Oden healthy and back in one.

If no match for Hibbert, Kaman and Mayo they go after. I have to look at salaries to c how it would work

I can actually see this happening, they have been hot after Mayo for a while.

All of a sudden I am much less optimistic that this guy Wells knows what he's talking about when he says Indy won't match. Seems like he would have looked at the salaries already, before opining about what Indy was going to do.

barfo

We're only able to offer max because we amnestied Roy, right. One Roy for another! And the center we've been waiting for!

Probably because he doesn't know what Kaman and Mayo would get in the open market...?

I like your enthusiasm and share some of it. But Hibbert is nothing like a healthy Oden. Go back and watch highlights of him at Ohio State manhandling Horford and Noah. Those guys were juniors, and now all-stars in the NBA and he was a freshmen. Oden ran the agility drills faster then Aaron Brooks. Hibbert is more skilled, he has some touch further from the basket but athletically Oden was a species from a different planet.

Mike Wells on 1070AM in Indiana

"Chris Kaman will determine if the Pacers match or don't match Hibbert. If the Pacers sign Kaman, Hibbert is gone 100%, if not, Pacers will match"

"There is a sense that the Blazers gave Hibbert a max contract just to spite KP."

Weird, because we think KP is gonna try to screw us

Yeah.... I'm sure that's how it went down.

Paul: So Neil, what's your plan for free agency?

Neil: Well Paul, I was thinking my first move would be to spite my predecessor* and make a max offer to his All-Star center.

Paul: Sounds good. Put some extra stank on that offer.

Neil: Will do.

*Chad Buchanan was an interim GM*

So.... You forgot about Cho already?

Yeah, so did I (almost).

Chris Sheridan on same radio station after Wells

"I'm 100% certain that the Pacers will match Hibbert. Portland did the Pacers a service to sign him to a 4-year max deal"

Isn't Wells the local guy? Why would a national guy have more info than a local guy? Of course, Woj is constantly scooping the Big O so I guess I shouldn't judge.

Yeah. It's kinda odd how quiet everything around Kaman has been.

I mean.... you're hearing a lot of names bandied about, but Kaman's name has been relatively quiet. He briefly came up after visiting Indy, but nothing much has otherwise been said.

Sheridan is a moron. All he cares about is trying to get hits on his website now that he no longer works for espn

I'm staying neutral until there's more of an indication of what will happen. I'm not getting my hopes up, but I'm also not giving up hope. I think there's still a chance we get him.

I'm just anxiously awaiting what happens with Kaman. I think that decision will be made long before July 14th, and then we'll know.

That would be ideal. If we have some kind of early indication that they won't match then we can make a better decision about Batum. I think it's strange that they're waiting this long. NO wasted no time in saying they'd match Gordon's deal.

If Pacers match

David Aldridge ‏@daldridgetnt
Nuggets continue to "grind it out" w/JaVale McGee reps, aware that whichever team (PDX, Indy) loses Hibbert will have $ available 2 offer.
