Thanks for commenting. I can’t really control what other shows do obviously. Chad and I in the afternoons do an enormous amount of detailed Blazers talk. I care more about the Blazers than any other topic on sports radio, period.

I wasn’t very educated at all on Sharpe prior to the draft, just reading reports of other peoples first hand accounts. Since he was drafted, that’s a different story. I’m catching up on every single thing I can about him. I met his parents this morning, I talked to his little brother.

Prior to the draft, there is SO much information on so many players. I watched and read reports, and video. But frankly, I spent more time on trades and things that come along with that because that’s what direction I thought the team was going. I have to prioritize my time. There’s a lot going on with my family at the moment (nothing bad) and I had to choose my time wisely.

I didn’t spend a ton of time on Sharpe because I didn’t think they’d go in that direction, plus highlights don’t do anything for me, and I’m not all that interested in video from 2 years ago. I was obviously wrong.

Hey Travis, Many thanks for your detailed response and I now totally get it. I truly appreciate your honesty and acceptance of my critique. I would love to hear more of your opinion about Sharpe once you have been caught up on what there is out there of him.
Thanks!

Isn't Any always pretty quiet?
yeah but I haven't seen him around the workouts or draft at all....he's a restricted free agent, I'm sure he's getting a lot of calls and offers about now

He can't officially get calls and stuff yet. On Twitter he posts like he's still a Blazer. They also still have his locker all setup in the pic next to Sharpe's new locker.
I saw that Simons and Nas were his neighboring lockers

It means Sharpe's developmental timeline doesn't seem to fit in with the timeless of our expressed plan and thus the surprise at the pick.

This is so frustrating, everyone acting like this makes sense.
I agree with you that the stated plan was to put a roster around Dame that would allow the team to compete this year. And I think that the front office's pursuit of Anunoby indicated that they--like you-- believed him to the piece that, along with Grant, would make that goal a reality.

But even if contender status wasn't really achievable this offseason, the team really had to make something of the TPE, otherwise there was no legitimate defending of the deadline deals. And Grant is honestly right on that line of working both with Dame and/or Simons, so there was really no downside to making that deal.

However, most in this forum did not believe an OG/JG/Nurk frontcourt to be contender-level. With the front office unable to make a deal for OG (due to a ridiculous asking price), their next-best option was to exalt the value of the player they picked. It just happens that this also dovetails with the desires of those who generally believe that building a contender around Dame with available vets is a fool's errand.

So yes, the front office was not able to actually complete their plan A, but they have to pretend like this was plan A all along, and most of the current optimists wanted this to be plan A, so of course they're going to be excited.

I think looking at it this way, the optimism that many are showing does in fact make sense, even though this wasn't the plan.

What the heck...he has an NBA body, so who cares if he can actually play? Who cares if he is afraid to face actual competion.

Are we so desperate for good news that we (as a fan base) are actually going to accept this smoke and mirrors act?

You and Slypoker cat are negative enough to grab some copper wires and make up for the electron shortage at the Hoover Dam. SMH.

@Travis Demers what's the story behind Dame unfollowing Shaedon? Is he being traded for KD?

I'll take your answer off the air.

We end up losing in that deal because Sharpe becomes some kind of once in a generation talent..

He becomes the face of the NBA

*Affixes tin foil hat*

Hmm... Fits odd. But here we go.

It would make sense if BKN is wanting to blow it all up.

WTF DID I JUST WRITE.

UCD and I were boarded on our flight to my Hawaii house when the draft started. I sometimes have Wi-Fi when flying to Hawaii, so I was hopeful we’d have it. And we did for a bit, as well as in-seat TV. We were stoked that we were going to at least see Portland’s pick, if not the entire draft.

Well, as soon as they said Portland’s pick was in, in-seat TV died. I was hitting refresh on my phone internet, and maybe ten seconds before the wi-fi cut out, I saw two brief posts about us taking Shaeden Sharpe. I texted UCD about it (he was in the middle of the plane, I was up front). He thought I was fucking with him, which I didn’t realize until I went back to talk to him 3-4 hours later. We were otherwise mostly in the dark about the draft. Was happy with the pick but kinda disappointed there wasn’t more action.

You didn't upgrade your dad to 1st class?!?

For the record, the "incorrect outcome" is wasting a high pick on a flop. I hold to the quaint notion that more info means better decisions and a reduced chance of getting it wrong.

If Sharpe turns out to be a great player, and more importantly helps the team succeed, that's great.
If there was more information, he probably would have been out of reach for the Blazers.
