Blazers POSSIBLY offered a pick swap to move up

Our team is so devoid of talent right now, that trading both picks for one pick is a huge mistake. We need an infusion of new talent. Badly. Our cap space is going to bring in one, maybe two new players. That's simply not enough. In all likelihood we will lose Hickson, so we will need to try to plug in some youth at guard and forward. I think we should sit on our picks, take the BPA at #6 and the BPA at 11 and then fill needs in free agency. I have a good feeling that someone will drop on draft day. They always do. Maybe we get lucky and Robinson or Drummond drop to six, and then we get Lamb or maybe Lillard at 11. This lottery is full of guys that could end up being above average or maybe even star players. No superstars, but definitely some guys with star potential. It would be stupid to pass up the chance to roll the dice twice instead of just once.

Math and statistics are not a waste of time but I've think we've seen the draft is an "art" as well as a "science", if you will. Yes, player stats in college or overseas count. So do intangibles. I think some teams with late picks shrug their shoulders, figure they'll get an end of bench guy at best. Others like the Spurs really dig, try to find the guy who isn't "ideal", who may have less experience, but who has the heart. Kind of like what the A's did in baseball in the early part of the decade. Call it golden gut, or outside the box, or whatever cliche, there's no doubt some got it, some don't.

Sure, it's great if your #1 pick is Tim Duncan. But no one can count on that luck.

I would do 6+11 for any pick between 2-4.

That gives Blazers leverage to draft a good second or third scoring option.

Who would you have that you couldn't get later? MKG is not a scorer, and neither is Drummond (for a few years). Robinson a little, but not great. Beal is, but so is Lillard, Ross or Lamb after 6.

depending on how it shakes out, id actually rather move down, maybe the #11 and ? for houstons 14 and 16

6, 11, 40, elliot williams for 14, 16, lowry? Doubt they would do it but... I can dream.

i get some of the lowry love, but his value isnt as high as most of yall believe me dont think, he basically said he hates the coach and wants out...at a certain point they will simply trade him for a future 1st

I'd be all over that if someone didn't slip to 11 (PJIII, Lillard).

Most here are believing the hype that 2-8 are all on thesamelevel. Bullshit. I am not their working these guys out, but I guarantee that the GMs that are devoting their months to the draft are finding very real and important reasons to rank. And so the difference between 2 and 6 are likely going to be fairy big. The gm could be wrong, but at the time of the draft I bet that most of them would consider the deferences great.

Personally, I like MKG or robinson and also very interested in Drummond. Most would put those guys drafted by 6. The one guy I don't want is fucking beal.

While I agree that after workouts there will definitely be more seperation, in terms of potential franchise-changing impact there is really only Davis at this point.

Immediate impact and long-term potential I would say that Beal, MKG, Drummond and T-Rob are all very similar and unless one of them absolutely wows us, I'm not sure giving up #11 to get one of them is worth it. Remember we are rebuilding, and like NateBishop has said in other threads, we need to horde all the talent possible.

But hey, if one of those 4 works out for us and the Blazers feel we need to move up to secure them, then I would definitely be all for it. I am just hoping the Blazers end up with multiple first rounders this year in order to stockpile talent, even the 15-25 range I feel will have some great players that could contribute this year.

Lowry is on a very reasonable contract with a 19 per. Someone will offer them something good. At 14 & 16 you can probably grab rivers and leonard, zeller or maybe pj3?

Terrence jones, wroten, waiters etc.

I actually agree with you. Just because I think ranking matters does not mean that we need to trade up. Often, teams have very different rankings, and some player the blazers rank as 3rd would slip to 6th. I am just saying that if they see a p layer that they believe has a big chance to impact the franchise, then they do need to do what they an to go after that player. As far as this drat I n general, I agree that ther are lokely going to be more quality players, not stars, all the way through the first and even the secon round

Two teams to look at are Cleveland and Portland. Both would love to move up to the No. 2 pick. The Cavs would love to get their hands on Kidd-Gilchrist or Beal. The Blazers are also high on Beal.

Yessir!

I do look forward to seeing how Beal does against Lamb's length and reach.

1v1 is such a stupid way of measuring talent. The only way to see how someone would do is in 4v4 or 5v5.

Don't they have restrictions on that? I thought the most # of players they can bring in at once for a workout was 6.

Why can't they have these guys work out against NBA talent?

Why can't they have these guys work out against NBA talent?

They do, I saw that down in the bay last week some guys played with people like Rasual Butler and other ex-NBA guys trying to get back in the league. Not sure if that was an official NBA sanctioned workout or not.

Because it would reveal a lot of holes that these prospects probably want to hide. NBPA would never agree to it.

Some guys like MKG and Marshall would thrive in an open court game....... not so much 1v1.

It would make a ton of sense to me to be able to have players on our current roster workout with prospective picks, and maybe even free agents. Running 5 on 5 with a mix of current players, draft prospects, and free agents would be by far the best way to evaluate talent and how they would fit with the team. It'll never happen, but a man can dream.

Yeah, agents would never want their guys going against NBA talent.
