How uncivilized. Our owner is the richest in pro sports, and we have to deal with this indignity?

Looks like Paul hired himself a really personable fellow ...

I'd be ok with it being known as the "Adidas Rose Garden". that would actually be pretty dope.

Selling the naming rights to the arena, McGowan said, could omit the name “Rose Garden.” Though, McGowan said it is soley contingent on the buyer on whether they choose to include it or not.

Bitch please, what you meant to say was, "buying the naming rights to the arena is soley contingent on the buyer agreeing to use the words, Rose and Garden, in the name"

"FAAAAAANS get on your feet! You're the sixth man and the Mattress World Dream Center is... zzzzzzzzz"

I was so embarrassed for the good people of Sacramento last night every time, Mike & Mike referred to the Sleep Train Arena (or occasionally, in Rice's case, the Sleep Country Arena). Of course, it used to be the Arco Arena, so they are used to whoring out their venues to the highest bidder.

Please save the proud people of Portland from a similar fate!!!

This doesn't bug me in the slightest.

I can totally see Adidas showing interest in this, not only because their HQ is in PDX, but because they've already got Nic and Dame in their showcase. I expect Dame to get a pretty big deal from them soon too.

and alienate all of their other players? Not happening EVER!

Is Wells Fargo our biggest sponsor?

In all seriousness, it's probably gonna be Wells Fargo Center.

I could care less what the arena's official name is. Fans will still call it the Rose Garden. Obviously selling the naming rights is a huge business move, which helps the basketball side also. So I'm all for it!

First thing I thought of too. It's a really, really bad sign for your team when they completely give up on the franchise's brand by associating it so closely with sleeping. It's a massive fuck you to the few remaining fans.

Hopefully whoever buys it is at least brand-neutral (ie, Staples) and isn't some regional/awkward-sounding brand (ie, TD Bank) or cheesy (Amway or Sleep Country).

It's surprising this hasn't happened already. An NBA team is all about monetizing their product, be it tv ads, jerseys, tickets or beverages. In the end, more money = deeper pockets to spend on players.

But hopefully they look at the overall brand of their franchise and not just purely the highest bidder.

Unless it is something stupid like Sleep Train, then I couldn't care less.

The thing I hate abut selling arena naming rights to the highest bidder is it leads to a total lack of creativity, lack of respect for local traditions and some really stupid arena names (see: Sleep Train Arena).

OKC completely missed out on calling their arena the Thunder Dome. Instead, it's the Chesapeake Energy Arena. Every time my eyes see that name, my brain interprets it as Cheapskate Energy Arena. And, I know Chesapeake Energy is owned by Thunder part owner (and proven liar) Aubrey McClendon, but isn't Chesapeake Bay between Maryland and Virginia, 1000 miles, or more, from OKC?

So, if we must sell our soul, let's make it something uniquely Portland. Maybe paint it pink and call it the Voodoo Doughnut Dome (where's Ray Felton when you need him?).

...or they're about to get blown out?
