Blazers Press Conference announcing new coach 6-29-2021

No matter what the Blazers did yesterday, it wasn't going to change anyone's view.
That right there is the problem with today's culture. Everyone's mind had already been completely made up on the acceptability of this hire long before the hiring was even announced, let alone before the press conference had begun.

It wasn't a shit show, AT ALL..

no, it wasn't a shit show

it was actually a fairly boiler-plate new coach introduction. In this case, the plate had to be a bit thicker and the bolts attaching the plate had to be upgraded because of higher pressure, but still, no real surprises from anybody...Olshey, Billups, the media....they all followed form

personally, the one question I wanted asked with a little precision wasn't. That would have been something like: "for years now, Portland's Achilles Heel in the playoffs has been when an opposing defense with good personnel has gone full 'stop-Dame' mode with doubles and traps, Portland's offense has wilted and failed. How would you deal with that?"

I would have like to have heard Billups talk about that a little as I think it's Portland's biggest issue. I also don't think the Blazers can really scheme their way out of that conundrum. That's not a real X's & O's riddle to be solved without a new Joe, somewhere on the floor. But hearing Billups talk a little coach-speak about that problem would have been interesting to me

as for that rape case/settlement; how old was Billups when that happened? 21? He's almost 45 now so more than half his life has passed since then and nearly all of his adult life has gone by. It's high irony that so many of those that find that incident to be disqualifying (without really knowing what happened) would probably turn right around in another circumstance and be loud advocates for the power of redemption.

I do think the Blazers' decision (Olshey imitating a 3rd base coach) to have the PR person shut down Quick's question was a poor choice. That wasn't a gotcha question. That was more giving Billups and opportunity to talk about the incident as a pivot point in his life and how he built on the lessons learned. That would have moved the presser a little away from standard boiler plate IMO

O-Live has an extensive collection for 'fan' reactions. Obviously it's a little cherry-picked, but I do find myself agreeing with some of the reaction to the Blazers killing the Quick question:

the quickest way to get past something like this is to own it. Give the media no space to dig and gouge. And I agree it did look like Billups was ready to do just that.

What is your position on politics religion war and whos your favorite college football team?
My positions are SG/SF or QB or Left Field. I pray I don’t mess up and fight like hell when on the court or field. I went to OSU so Brave.
I also like Golf so I have that in common with many presidents.

I should have used green font. Great answer! and its cool to be a beaver I have kids that went to both!

It wasn't a shit show, AT ALL. He answered Quicks question, had Jason been listening, at the start of the Presser. But as is the case today, people hear what they want to. No matter what the Blazers did yesterday, it wasn't going to change anyone's view.
I guess you are right to a point. It didn’t change my overall view but it did make me feel more comfortable with the hire.

Rewatched the PC. This eyeroll signal thing that Neil apparently did to curb Quick's question that everyone is talking about is nonsense. I think he was simply looking at the PR lady.

He does the exact same thing as AJ McCord is asking a question about Billups' experience in LA.

Brooke Olzendam was supposed to have an interview with Chauncey releasing today. Where is it?

These are better answers than anything we got in the actual PC.

He looks super releaved after the court trial before
