Blazers Pursued Trade With Bucks For Greg Monroe Before Deadline

Our offense has been extremely effective; we have the fewest post ups in the history of the NBA.

Instead of the lack of a post player being a weakness when will people realize in today's game it's a strength?

Golden State couldn't score to save their lives in the last 6 minutes of game 7. When things get tight and the refs swallow their whistles on all that contact, you need to have someone that can create in the post to get a bucket or create a double-team. GS had none of that and no way to combat all the physical contact.

Good info if true. Is there a link that says that?

Not sure where the link it but I heard that somewhere as well. That Portland had a historically low number of post up points this season. That is too far out of balance no matter how successful we might feel this last season was.

You do it of you don't have to give up any real assets.

At the least he could be our Enes Kanter off the bench.

So I guess knowing what little any of us truly know about the intricacies of the league, do you think Neil would be making a mistake bringing Monroe in....assuming he is still interested? The Cavs showed the world that a good defense will usually, at worse, slow down a good offense. Should Monroe, a horrible defender, be someone we are pursuing?

IMO he should be option E or F, if we strike out elsewhere since he is like a 1 yr deal with his player option next yr we could give him a shot but only if he's capspace and maybe a 2nd rdr

For all the melting down the Warriors did, if Green doesn't get suspended, they win this in 5. Bogut hadn't been injured yet and wouldn't have been attempting to play more minutes,. The Warriors were up 3-1 with momentum and going home. Then Green gets suspended, Bogut gets injured and it allows Cleveland to get back into the series.

That said, Monroe is too one-dimensional for me given the back-court's defensive inefficiencies.

Seems like a bit of a baseless statement. Green was amazing in game 7 at home and they lost. Who's to say they wouldn't have still lost game 5. Green is not the reason they won or lost. The defense on Curry and Thompson was

Bogut wasn't trying to play more minutes with Green out. He only played 7:35 in the game he was injured (5:42 in the first half and the first 1:53 of the second half). Kerr had already started playing more small ball in Game 4, a trend he would carry forward for the rest of the series. Losing Bogut definitely hurt, but it was not because he was worn downplaying a lot of minutes. He only played 60 minutes (12 mpg) in the entire series.

Agreed on Monroe. The only way he makes sense is if we can pair him with a defensive front court stud.

Very few Bigs are rim protectors and provide some sort of mid range jump shot. This is a huge reason why the thunder kept Ibaka over Harden.

There's Marc Gasol, Ibaka, Pau Gasol ( but he is so slow at this point), Anthony Davis, KAT who can do both.

The best rim protectors have no range for the most part: gobert, Dwight, Whiteside, Drummond, Biyombo, Bogut, Henson.

Maybe a guy like Dieng, Valanciunas (he's improving Raptors aren't moving him), Alex Len could provide both down the line.

I hope he is only pursued after we exhaust trying to sign Whiteside, Horford, Howard, Drummond first.
He's not the long term answer IMO. However, he'd be an PF upgrade.

Yeah, other than the exceptions you noted, you need to move down the BLKs list a little to start getting some guys will decent jumpers. Again, this is why I'd love to see us get guys like Horford (17th n BLK/G, with a great midrange jumper) or Millsap (8th in BLK/G with a decent midrange jumper, but Horford is better).

Brook Lopez is another big that provides some rim protection (9th in BLK/G) to go with his offense. He has a great low post and midrange offensive game, but he's too slow footed to defend the pick-and-roll as well as Horford or Millsap. Porzingas is another guy who blocks shots and can shoot the ball, but he's nt going to be available anytime soon.

Who was Cleveland dumping it into in the post to score when things got tight?

LeBron - well, not dumping it down to in the post, but that's not what TBpup said:

"When things get tight and the refs swallow their whistles on all that contact, you need to have someone that can create in the post to get a bucket..."

LeBron killed GSW in the paint. He attacked the basket at will, especially after they lost Bogut. 51 of the 82 FGs he made in the series were within 3 ft. of the basket.

This has little to do with Greg Monroe, and he's way down on my list of options for upgrading this team, but after trying to be the Warriors in the first three rounds by relying heavily on the 3, CLE beat GSW in the finals the old fashioned way - by attacking the rim. When Curry and Klay went cold, LeBron was busy getting layups, dunks and FTs. It was CLE's scoring in the paint that won them that series.

Attacking the basket, IMO, is much different than "creating in the post". And I don't believe that what TBPup meant, when discussing Monroe, was someone attacking the basket from out top.
