Are the Spurs still in that win title window? I know it's close but I have questions about that.
They almost seem to be in that window forever.

I agree but I am wondering if the can still lure guys in on the cheap on the premise of getting past GSW and OKC and CLE. Undoubtably this is Tims last season unless he retires this summer anyway which has been indicated is possible. Outside of LMA and Leonard the Rey of the team has become very Meh. I know they will find a way to win and have success but it felt like this season truly was the last hoorah before they settle into lower seed land. They almost seem to be in that window forever.
Pau Gasol still has 2 or 3 good years in him. But I would be surpised he choose to spend them in a place that recently hasn't been a good destination for Spanish players. Sergio, Rudy, Claver surely don't have only good memories in PDX. And if San Antonio offers less money but a real chance at winning a title, I would totally understand him to go there.
I would cut Meyers for him, the other two guys seems like too much. Although with Turner Hark might be renounced.
If we were to sign Gasol before an offer sheet was signed we could control that part of the equation. Everything gets super dicey of our RFAs sign offer sheets before we get FA contracts signed. We need to hope that Neil has really expressed to these guys to hold off a couple hours before signing offers.Yeah it will probably come down to which one gets the bigger offer. Leonard or Harkless
If we don't land Gasol I will not be heart broken. But talk about the potential for a great passing lineup with him, Plums, Turner, CJ, and Dame.
That defense tho....If we don't land Gasol I will not be heart broken. But talk about the potential for a great passing lineup with him, Plums, Turner, CJ, and Dame.
I will be heart broken if we do sign Gasol... He will be 36 to start next season, is a slow plodder at this point, his game can completely fall off the cliff any day now, he does not make us a title contender! Absolutely ridiculous to give up on players like Meyers or Crabbe, or even young guys like Alexander and Pat in order to sign 36 year old Gasol and give him 30 min a game... Yuck. PLEASE DO NOT SIGN GASOL NEIL! What a panic move this would be... Stay with Lillards arc and sign Biyombo or trade for Kanter... But please do not sign 36 year old Gasol!
I was the one of the few and first to be positive after alot of stuff happened and i try to be positive BUT Spurs VS Blazers for a FA --- Winner - Spurs
I really hope i am wrong but the Spurs are like the model franchise and Gasol was linked to them very early and i believe most experts would say even before FA unless something crazy happens Spurs Super Big fav for his services. When the Blazers lose out to the spurs for Gasol while i might be a little bummed at least i can understand why Gasol would pick the Spurs over Portland.
hopefully we make a take it now or it's gone within an hr or two offerGasol is going to wait until all the other big men are taken then sign with the Spurs leaving us at square one
I wouldn't cry if we offered him 10m for a 2y contract but it doesn't get me excited. I would assume we bring back all our RFA and a big rotation of Plumlee/Aminu/Gasol/Davis/Meyers/Vonleh actually seems pretty deep and good. Of course this doesn't solve our defensive issues at all but kind of expected that when Whiteside/Dwight went off the table that next year we would be screwed defensively again.
-edit Actually I don't think we can give Gasol 10M without renouncing some of our RFA and as much as Meyers gets HATE on this forum he is a big with a unique skill set that is desired in this league, i'm retaining him and looking to move him in the next two years.
until the last minute? Hurry Neil! Sign someone, anyone! So we have something else to bitch at!If Pau waits till the last minute and there are no more big big men left we are going look like a bunch of assholes. Sorry for the brunt of my candor.
