FWIW, I agree with you. It would be a good thing to do. I just have no problem with the Blazers waiving Pendergraph for the roster spot. But letting him rehab in their facilities, on their dime...good thing, if it's kosher with the league.
I wonder about that. I don't think there's any rules against it. Seems like every off-season there's a couple guys that aren't under contract working out here. But I've never heard of guys hanging around during the season. Maybe the NBA has some stricter in season rules on that sort of thing.
I know Desmond Mason does every year. He married a smokin hot little blondie from Jesuit.
I get why we did it, but I think it was a bad move. Oberto sucks. He's undersized and he's washed up. Pendy will be a valuable reserve in the future.
this is what happens when you wait to the last minute. amazingly the blazerS knew the situation in early july

The team has three starting-level centers, and that's great, but even if they're all healthy I'm not sure that they would have made up for the fact that we have no backup power forward of consequence.
Future in this case means next season at the earliest. He's out for the year. Waiving him now and signing Oberto to a one year contract has absolutely no impact on the Blazers re-signing Pendergraph next year - none at all.
Undersized in what sense of the word? he's legitimately 6'10." It might not be a great move because his ability to play has fallen off a cliff the last couple of years. Secondly, I seriously doubt your claim that Pendy was suddenly going to morph into a valuable reserve because of his play -- the guy is a 6'8" power forward with the game of a center.
If he was under contract - offers from other teams next year would be limited per the Arenas provision.
Of course, in the practical application of this situation - since no-one will give him a stupid contract after a year out and what he showed so far - the conclusion is correct - it really makes no difference about next year unless some team really loses it's head.
She went to Central Catholic son!
Jeff is 6'10" as well. At least according to the pre-draft meaurements, he was 6'10" in shoes and 6'8.75" barefoot.
Do we know if Oberto is 6'10" in shoes, he could be 6'8.75" without?
I'd assume so.. Players aren't usually listen by their barefoot height.
Players also don't have luscious locks like Oberto.
