Blazers sign Montero?

Dammit, I wish I could grow mine long; it always just curls back... Maybe I'm not growing it down my chin enough?

Could be, it goes through a really awkward stage before it looks good. Mine is pretty curly as well. My profile pic was taken at about 7 months growth, I'm at about 9 months now. It takes LOTS of patience.

I wish the stigma around smoking pot for athletes would go away; all the biggest known smokers (Kareem, Cliff, Oakley) had long-ass careers. It extends careers!

Remember Sleepy Sam Perkins? Dude was lights out from three at times. I swear, being a Sonics fan, along with Portland, back when I was in highschool, the dude was bloodshot-red eyed running down the court, and I know he was high as a kite.

One thing that was evident last night in limited playing time was that montero has a tight handle and can create space to get a shot off fairly easily. It reminded me of penny in that regard. I don't think he's a SG/SF. I think he's just a 6'7 pg/playmaker. He could theoretically play alongside dame and/or cj because he seems to have the proper length to guard most twos.

...in two or three years....

But that's ok. We need to develop guys like Montero and Vonleh and keep the cupboard stocked. We're Portland. We need to grow our own assets.

Montero is guaranteed $600,000 K in 3-year deal that could be worth up to 2.3 million.

Yeah he's not going anywhere. Can't wait to see(or hear) his growth.

We’re working on getting the audio of the interview for you Spanish language listeners. But it appears that with a good chunk of guaranteed money that Montero will be on the roster after training camp. But we never know what the future holds.

Either way, it’s a great story for a guy who was playing Community College basketball a year ago to guaranteed money from an NBA team after being undrafted. He’s played spot minutes in the first two games of Portland’s Summer League season.

He's got skills for sure, but he seems like a black hole that doesn't really know how to play within the concept of a team. They're taking a flyer on this guy but I don't think he'll get many developmental minutes. Low risk high reward I guess.

I'm not sure he's really played structured basketball to speak of.

Amazed that Dana Altman didn't pick him up for Oregon. Transfer U baby!

Just out of curiosity, can anyone name the last player that made the jump from juco straight to the nba?

@BobbyMarks42: Part 1: Under the radar signing this week of POR signing Luis Montero to a 3 year contract (1st year guaranteed). Montero is a 6'7" wing...
@BobbyMarks42: Part 2: Who was heavily recruited of college by Kentucky and Arizona. Went to Westchester CC and played there until the team folded.
@BobbyMarks42: Part 3: Major development project but is worth the risk.

Anyone know why he went to a CC when he was heavily recruited by NCAA colleges?

He couldn't make the grades. CC was a chance to play while getting up to speed.

a lot of that could be attributed to his credits and when he moved to the United States. It sounds like his graduating class are debatable.

@BobbyMarks42: For Luis Montero in POR a small guarantee in year 1. Potential for big upside and will give POR to develop him the right way.
