sorry this is like the 10th Thomas thread, but still new interesting info

http://ken-berger.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/11838893/20082353

After acquiring Marcus Camby from the Clippers for Steve Blake, Travis Outlaw and cash, the Trail Blazers may just be getting started. A person familiar with the team's thinking told CBSSports.com that Portland remains active in trade discussions and has targeted Tyrus Thomas in a secretive bid to acquire a second frontcourt player for the stretch run.

The Blazers have kept in close contact with Bulls officials regarding Thomas, and the acquisition of Camby has not dampened their interest, a source said. They may need a third team to facilitate a deal since they sent their two most significant expiring contracts to the Clippers for Camby.

Adding a second big man would not only numerically atone for the loss of Greg Oden and Joel Pryzbilla, it would also give the Blazers the best of both worlds with those acquisitions. Camby will help them this season, but his $7.7 million expiring contract wouldn't cloud their future plans. With Thomas, who will be a restricted free agent this summer, the Blazers could take a look at him for the rest of the season and decide whether they want to tender him the $6.3 million offer sheet or let him walk.

The Knicks and Spurs also are engaged in discussions about Thomas. The Nuggets are still trying, but sources say they're not optimistic they'll be willing to pay the price to get a deal done.

No.

We won't give up Rudy or Bayless (or Marty or Nic) for Thomas.

No dice.

joel yes... others no. the goal is playoffs... camby should be enough for 8 seed

It seems like we're just so limited in terms of who we could move... Webster and cash and pick(s)?

Would Chicago want Webster? Would we be willing to move him and leave us potentially thin at the small forward spot?

Ed O.

There is no need for the Bulls to get Web for Thomas. They want more cap space, not less.

Direct - the only thing they could be interested in is some package of Web and cheap expiring contracts (Patty? Who else?) for something that will net Hinrich.

Seems like the only way Thomas can be had will be through a 3 team trade. Not direct.

i have a feeling if we get thomas... salmons is coming back

From what I have been reading Chicago is looking for a first round pick plus some chump change for him.

How does a 1st round pick factor into matching salaries? Do salaries still need to match up the same?

Jason Quick has been pretty adamant that KP is not interested in Thomas. But all these reports contradict Quick's opinion. I'm starting to think Quick is wrong yet again.

Are you sure? I wouldn't want you to make a decision too....quickly!:devilwink:

Yes--draft picks have no impact on salary matching.

I sort of buy it considering Tyrus Thomas is a bonehead. He is a younger Darius Miles essentially.

That said, KP has also said once the team has a solid foundation of character that is when you can take more risks when it comes to character when trying to add more talent to the roster.

We'll see soon, but I'm not sure how the trade would set up anyways.

quick also said the blazers wouldnt make any big moves

I wouldn't mind taking a chance on Thomas just to see what a summer with Bill Bayno could do. He has a lot of tools. Fuck, if Bayno could get Travis Outlaw to below average, just think what he could do with Thomas!

If Chicago moves Deng for expirings, I'll bet they'd be amenable to picking up Webster as a fairly cheap starting small forward who can swing between the two and the three spots, so maybe that's where the third team comes in; we just piggy back on whatever Deng deal goes down and maybe pick up Thomas and ship out a guy like Pendergraph and Webs.

Who knows, sounds like things are pretty fluid right now.

Travis was Monty's project.

I wouldnt mind Thomas and Salmons coming back in a trade. Maybe Joel yeah and then he can opt out and sign back here ;)

Everybody is Bayno's project. Every player gets assigned to an assistant coach, and Bayno does individual development on all of them.

Sure, but generally speaking Monty is the one who worked the most with Travis the past couple of years.

Chicago is absolutely not going to want Webster in a Tyrus deal. Would another team value Webster enough to give up an expiring contract for him? Maybe. But then we would have to provide some incentive to Chicago, Bayless, Rudy or a 1st would be to much but I don't think a 2nd rounder would be enough on their end.

Hoping KP surprises me though!

hmm...maybe that 3-way with POR-Lakers and CHI has some legs after all?

POR does have space to take on Vujacic

Someway for POR to get Vujacic & Tyrus Thomas, Lakers get Hinrich and CHI gets Morrison (expiring), and ???? and a 1st round pick?
