Blazers summer school: The 5 stages of basketball grief

Well damn it all! Thanks. :)

Im not saying there is such a thing as having too many assets, but do you really think that one lotto pick would be the difference maker?

See, in my opinion, with how young our youth is, if we can battle for the 8th seed, even if we don't make it, the confidence boost to this team will be more valuable than what the probably outcome of that lottery pick.

I believe that if we can battle for that 8th spot at the end of the season, we go into the off season looking really good. a fringe playoff team with tons of cap space and players who are still on the upside. Find that other all star who wants to join and the following season can be very real. :)

You don't see that being viable?

Also, do you think the talent of this team is only good for 20, or we will be tanking? Needing to get the lottery pick is much different than saying we are a lottery pick team. IF you truly believe that this is a lottery team, then I understand why you put more importance in retaining the pick, but if you don't think that, but think we need to tank or play poorly to retain it, then I disagree with you. I think that shows we are better than most think and we should let them play and improve.
I agree but making the playoffs will be a tall order for our ball club. We need one more mid season trade to make it a reality. I'm hoping the cousins vs coach will land us Boogie before trade deadline.

Olshey has made great use of the limited assets he's had here. I like to see what he could do with a good lottery pick.

Besides Durant who are the other all star free agents that are available next season? At best I see us being like the Suns, we'll make a strong bid during free agency and come away disappointed.

Tanking is a stupid term. (Not saying you're stupid, lol. Just saying that it doesn't fit with what the Blazers are doing) The Blazers won't be tanking next year. There is no way you can go up to a player like Lillard and ask him to tank. The guy is going to bring it every night. Olshey has brought in a lot of young, unpolished talent and is hoping that a few of them will develop into something special. The goal for next year is not to make the playoffs but to develop talent. That means letting young players get good minutes and make mistakes. Minutes and mistakes will result in loses. Players and teams can still get better even if they are losing and not making the playoffs.

Tanking isn't something the players do. Tanking is something management does.

My grief started with Wesley's popped achillies. With Wes being the heart, I knew this team was done at that point. LA leaving didn't effect me much because I figured it was coming when we got bounced easily in the first round. The acceptence happened rather quickly once Neil assembled a young promising roster within a few days. So the five stages were more like two, and not all that painful.

I know that, I was directly responding to this -

I know you know that, I was posting just in case there are little ones on the board during their summer vacation who don't yet know how things work.

Screw grief. In order for me to admit that we are losing ANYTHING. It has to be a fair fight. This offseason wasn't. The other teams got to keep their players and signed ours. We don't get a fair shake at the bargaining table. It's just like college sports, the USC'S, Ohio States, Alabama's will always have an extra edge. Maybe you get to the title game sometimes but you still need the NFL athletes. Call me bitter or a bad loser, but when a LeBron James signs here or another Clyde Drexler then otherwise. Until then, Vegas wins, the rich get richer, big market rules and it's a crock of ----.

I realize this is a RANT. IDC

I thought the judge told you to stay away from the little ones.

I will make a bet, in October when I go to Vegas. I'll put $10 on the Blazers to win it all. I imagine the odds will be around 120-160 to 1.

Why not give it to a recovering cancer patient with mefical bills more than the Oregon State education allowance, instead of throwing it away

But then what would I do with all this candy?

Do cancer patients like candy?

Do they like to ride in vans?

Fine, meet me in Vegas and I'll give you $20 and buy you many drinks!

I have to say that I now that I totally agree and believe in tanking. In pro sports nowadays, with parity being so difficult, if I was a losing owner I would do it every year. I remember when NHL pundits accused the Penguins of tanking. Of course they were! Probably the best move they ever made. Heck pay the players for LVP. Then you get your little ping pong balls and play the fixed crap game. Same time next year.

Fair enough on the tanking,. I just think we might see them develop quicker than aintiscipated, thus making us better, sooner than antiscipated.
As far as free agents, it isnt just them. There can be a dynamic that develops where said all star wants out, like a Paul George. Who knows, but we have cap space to buy out in trade, as well as youngs to toss in. I am NOT in favor of trading CJ, Meyers or Voneh though. They are part of the future core going around Dame I think.

Yes, I firmly believe we will be a bottom feeder.

It would harmful to our recovery if we were the 8th seed. We need our first round lottery pick back from Denver to give NO more assets to work with.

I disagree. I would much rather that our large stable of young players are good enough to win 45 games, than add a top-5 pick to a stable of youngsters that aren't good enough to win 30 games.

I only went through 4 stages of grief.

Stage 1: Shock

What's this?!?

Stage 2: Awe

Oh hell, the Blazers are having a fire sale!

Stage 3: Laughter

This is too absurd to be real. :rotfl:

Stage 4: Screw it

Nothing more to see here... moving on. :scooter:
