Blazers to meet with Chandler Parsons (1 Viewer)

So we know he's meeting with Memphis this morning.... does he have any other meetings scheduled? I'm hoping he makes an announcement after the meeting with Memphis.

If the plan is to try to get Parsons AND Howard, then we need Parsons to commit quickly.

That is supposedly the plan. If Neil can get Parson to agree in principle and then be one of the 2 teams Howard meets with tomorrow, I can't believe Dame and Chandler aren't part of that meeting.

Sometimes a double failure is a success. This would be one of those times.
Or else, hey, let's go whole hog and get Kevin McHale to be the coach.
Remember how ever year somebody suggests that playoff teams should get to subsume the players of the teams they knock out? Looks like Olshey is trying to make that a reality.

Sounds like Parsons and Memphis are meeting as i type this so i think by Noon or so we should have a good idea or even know unless something crazy happens. We are due for a break in free agency but if this does not work out in Olshey i trust and still good and solid options out there remain.

It makes no sense for the Blazers to not have offered MAX dollars to Parsons. A shade under is a serious offer, but not "all in."

Dame's camp ends today and then there's a few days off and then I think there's another camp. So he should be free tomorrow.

I knew that report from Stein that he was meeting with them on Monday was incorrect. Made no sense.

It's getting close, guys.

Well, if they're trying to sell him on pairing up with Dwight, they might have offered slightly less than max.

I'd really try to avoid cutting him at all costs as well. Much rather release Connaughton and eat his guaranteed salary, but not sure Portland is willing. We'll find out soon.
That doesn't do any good for the cap space. Pat is guaranteed. If he's released, his full salary stays on the books + $0.5M roster charge.

Offer him the max, and say "you can play with Howard if you help us sign him, and we renegotiate down a touch before July 6th. If Howard doesn't come though, we'll give you the max."

I'd offer the max anyway. Secure him, then work on how to get Howard signed.

Something like "Here's a MAX deal. Take it. If you're willing to help us get Howard and take less, we'll accommodate that."

Since all contracts are essentially signed at the same time, you can renegotiate as part of getting both to commit. There's so many contingencies that I'm sure Parsons's offer has three different number attached, one being the max.

Can't we just re-sign Montero/Alexander to similar contracts after we cut them?
Vet min starting at $874,636. Can be up to 2 years. That would enable us to keep Bird Rights, eventually, as long as it was "declining options" rather than having to go through waivers.

I bet that's precisely what Olshey said to Parsons.

Quick (I think it was him) reported $94/4 years was offered. That's not MAX.

If there's 3 contingencies and one is MAX, then he was offered $96/4

Woj says he was offered the max. Quick is a shithead outsider working for a company about to lose their TV contract with the Blazers.

Could be both are true. "We'll pay you the max, but if you want to play with Howard and will take a little less, we think we can make that happen. "

I think that's true, yes. Quick maybe assumes the lower amount because it's out of the bag that we're also going after Howard.

Oh sure, like "he played us well, let's get him in the off season." after beating a team. That happens all the time.
Yeah, but that's not what he said, or certainly not what I read. He said people suggest that playoff teams should get to subsume (absorb [I had to look it up]) players of the teams they defeat, like a conquering army adding the survivors of a battle to their existing ranks. As though we could have taken CP3 and DJ with us into our 2nd round matchup with GSW.

to be completely fair, no one knows what "Max" is until the audit's done, the cap is set and the moratorium's lifted. Unlikely not to within the million or so that could change a contract from 4/96 to 4/94.

Ahh, I think he meant it the way I meant it. But I suggested once that there shouldn't be a trade deadline for exactly this purpose :ghoti:

You know what? Fahkeet!
I was against this stupid plan, but now i'm all in on the Howard-Parsons wagon! let Paul Allen worry about paying these dumbass contracts and Neil worry about trading them for rough diamonds in (the likely) case they'll crap the bed.

Let's make next season interesting and unpredictable too! Neil is playing like an NBA 2k gm right now lol.

The downside of getting both Parsons and Howard is getting our bench...looks like Montero and connaughton are getting some minutes next season...we aren't going to have the depth we had last season, that will hurt...
