Free Agent Blazers to sign Rondae Hollis-Jefferson

Portland tried Evan Turner; and they tried Kent Bazemore; and they tried Mario Hezjonia. Those moves worked so well Olshey decided to combine the skills, and flaws, of all three into one player

and this comes after it's been clear, for years, that when it's a choice between offense or defense, Stotts will always choose offense

If he can come in and take Melo's minutes, I'm thrilled. Somehow though, you get the feeling if he takes any minutes, it will be from Little. :banghead2:

Here is a Raptors Rapture Story
By Mike Luciano
https://raptorsrapture.com/2021/04/...ollis-jefferson-blazers-screwed-up-offseason/

If you don't want to click on it for some reason.
"Hollis-Jefferson averaged 7.0 points and 4.7 rebounds for the Raptors last season, logging tons of playing time while using his unique blend of defense, physicality, and ability to finish at the rim off of penetration."
"Hollis-Jefferson, who once averaged 13.9 points per game with the Brooklyn Nets, is by no means a great shooter, but he is a solid ball-handler, impeccable finisher in the paint, and one of the most versatile defenders in the league, able to guard all five positions with some degree of success."
"Letting Hollis-Jefferson, who wasn’t picked up by the Minnesota Timberwolves after a brief stint before the season, leave was a puzzling move from Ujiri, especially since the Raptors seem to value young players, versatility on defense, and players with a high motor that go all-out every single possession. Hollis-Jefferson checks all of those boxes, yet was not brought back."

Seems a number of people are questioning Ujiri on this decision because RHJ was a solid defensive piece for that team. The article also eludes to RHJ wanting to join Norman Powell again and that he was not going to stay and sit through a rebuild.

Not sure if this has been said yet but as it stands now Portland just traded Trent and Hood for Powell and Jefferson.
I would think this should be looked at as a win for the Blazers.
Hood is out with what sounds like another season ending hip injury and we all know what we were getting from Trent lately.
Although it seems Trent is feeling a bit of adrenaline after the trade. I'm wondering if he slows down a bit in the coming weeks?

If Harry can stay healthy and elevate his game, get Little rolling with the addition of RHJ & Powell I would think, imo, our defense should improve and help during the playoffs. These tough games hopefully will help sharpen our defense and offense before the playoffs. RHJ and Little are junk yard dog that can bother other teams. Just my opinion.

To get to the league minimum 14 players, Olshey had to find some undesirable. You can think of this new guy as the 15th man, since he will rarely play. He wasn't even the last man waived in preseason by the lowly Wolves, who are 30th in the standings.

But to be balanced, the good news is that tweeters love him. High quality posting, FAMS!

I like to root for the underdog rather than undesirable. Cov & DJ were as you say undesirable as neither were drafted but given an opportunity to prove they belong, they succeeded. Sure, the 14th man like RHJ may not work out but its not up to us its up to him and I hope he does well.

Even with all the GM and coaching changes the Wolves have made they’ve continued to be laggards.

I'd be shocked if we see any of RHJ this season, any meaningful minutes, I mean.

You know where he does help, though? In practices. In intra-squad scrimmages. He plays good defense and hustles. He scraps. He gets mad if you touch his head. It helps make you better to practice against those guys.

Just saw a report saying the Blazers are waiting for him to clear the NBA Health and Safety protocol and then he will sign. Hoping by the end of this week.

I think there are minutes for him in certain situations.

Wtf...I hate when people do that to me too.

Edit: Oh jeeze that was Norman Powell....awkward hahaha
When we really need to ramp up our defense with RHJ in the game, Powell knows how to get him fired up!

Ahhh okay. This makes sense as to why he isnt signed yet.
But leaf??

ookay. Well our roster is fulll at least...
