Memphis may throw a wrench in our opportunity to acquire Grant if Detroit views brooks in a similar light to hart along with their additional draft assets.

Memphis is already going to have a tough enough time paying for the team they have with Morant up for an extension, JJJ already receiving one, and guys like Bane and Clarke up for big money soon; I don't see why they'd want to add an overpaid player like Grant. :dunno:

Memphis is too smart to throw an offer Grant's way.

Keegan Murray's NBA comp in some mocks is Jerami Grant. Coming out of college, here are some comparisons.

Player...Grant....Murray (Sophomore years)
Height...... 6'8"........... 6'8"
Weight..... 210 ........... 215
Wing........ 7'2" .......... 6'11"
Mins........ 31.4 ........... 31.9
Points...... 12.1 ........... 23.5
Rebs......... 6.8 ............ 8.7
Assts........ 1.4 ............. 1.5
Blks......... 0.6 ............. 1.9
FG%....... .496 ............ .554
3pt%...... .300* .......... .398
FT%....... .674 ............ .747
Salary... ~$21M .......... $5M

* 3pt% is a career number as he didn't make a '3' his sophomore year.

Both came out as Sophomores and minutes their 2nd year are almost identical. Murray wins almost every category and in some cases by a wide margin. Given what each would make next year, I'm even more convinced I don't want to trade a Lottery pick for Grant. Of course would make the bigger impact next year, but given what Portland needs, the gap might not be that big. Grant (or his agent) have indicated he wants to be a major part of the offense. In Portland, who is going to take a back seat? Certainly not Dame and likely not Ant. Do you push Nurk back to #4? How would that go over? With Grant's history of inefficiency versus league averages, not sure him being a focal point of the offense is a good thing.

Grant on the other hand is already the better shooter and rebounder and as a rookie, wouldn't demand the shots that Grant would want. He would much likely put in more effort on defense.....like Grant used to. I just don't get where there is ~$16,000,000 in difference for what their production might be. And going forward, I like Murray's future better than Grant's.

has there been any rumor at all that Memphis is interested in trading Brooks? I don't see why they would; Brooks is their glue=guy and go-to defender who sets the tone for aggression

personally, I'd rather have Brooks than Grant. And if the cost to Portland of landing grant is something like the 11th pick + Hart + Little/Johnson, I'd hope Cronin, or whoever the Blazer GM is tells Detroit to pound sand

my 'that's-too-much' line for Grant begins after the Memphis pick + Bledsoe. I'd be kind of pissed if it was the TPE rather than Bledsoe

Think you have them backwards.

?? They don't look identical at all.

?

@TBpup Think you need your morning coffee to kick in, but I think Grant is a really lazy comp for Murray, and some of these mocks really don't do their homework. Their games are honestly nothing alike. Murray projects to be a potential go-to guy fairly soon in the NBA while Grant didn't get there until like year 7.

And I did the statistical deep dive before with Murray in one of the other draft threads. He's got among the best advanced stats in this draft and compares favorably to #1 picks in previous drafts. The worry with him is how real it is given his usage in Iowa and his age compared to the guys listed top 3.

I hope those are switched around cuz I kind of liked Murray.

Yeah, had the names switched at the top and a couple of the stats. Fixed.

It may be a lazy comp from some Mocks, but I was using it more just for the thought of trading a Lottery pick for Grant vs possibly just selecting Murray at #6. Much of it it, I just really am not thrilled about Grant being here for a Lottery pick at such a much lower salary given Grant's poor shooting and declining defense.

A reporter at the Cleveland Plain Dealer turned heads recently when he revealed two high-profile Memphis Grizzlies players may not be as untouchable as many fans thought. “Grizzlies small forwards Dillon Brooks and Kyle Anderson are available for the right price,” sources told The Plain Dealer’s Chris Fedor in a story published August 22, 2021.

Disagree. The Clippers trade was amateur hour. Total embarrassment.

Still waiting on a plausable theory as to why those guys had far more value round the league, but the front office decided to turn down those offers for the worst one available.

We know teams talk year round, so I think the idea of they took the first offer has been dismissed.
We didn't see the Clippers flip RoCo for anything despite already have a handful of combo forwards on their roster.

At the end of the day, I guess we'll never know what was out there, but we know keeping them wasn't on the table.
