Blazers trade for Afflalo and Alonzo Gee

From a clutchfans boardie "insider":

"I'm extremely disappointed by today, but as you know, the NBA operates in the realm of unpredictable decisions.

Secondly, from my Colorado ears, Morey wanted Arron Affallo badly. More than Lawson. He was trying to make that happen today, apparently
. He had an interest in JJ like last year, but he was unwilling to take on MCGee. That whole team wants to be far far away from Shaw."

This trade was a no-brainer ... A++ ... While Robinson and Barton were fan favorites, played with tons of energy, and provided memorable moments, neither was the reliable player off the bench this team needed. With the emergence of Meyers and CJ's solid play recently, not to mention Freeland returning soon, Afflalo's addition gives Portland a very strong 11-man rotation should Coach Stotts choose to go that deep into his depth chart.

Is Afflalo going to be available tomorrow does anyone know or does it still have to process and whatnot?

Great trade by the Blazers. Shipping off the blowout crew for someone that can be relied upon to contribute on a regular basis is a huge win.

We have been built around potential for so long, it's nice to see that we are finally back in contention mode.

You know after watching that video of the players reactions Wes said something that just kind of stuck with me. He said that the brass went and got a player (in Afflalo) that is battle tested in the playoffs and big games. This immediately made me think that even if Tayshun Prince isnt the best fit or needed player-wise his playoff experience could be huge. He has been to the NBA finals and that kind of experience and knowledge could be invaluable for this team. I hope he gets a buyout and is interested

"Since the day I entered the league I've created high expectations within myself to be the best basketball player I can be. And I feel like playing for a championship is the only thing you should ever play for," Afflalo said. "And that mind-set of mine will never waver, individually or from a team concept. So, as you get traded, it may seem like you get frustrated or disappointed. But the truth is, for me it's a positive frustration. I'm trying to push myself to be better individually and try to be part of a group that wants to win a championship."

He will get that opportunity with the Trail Blazers, who are in third place in the Western Conference.

Another player that Neil has history with. Will that make a difference this summer? Can't hurt

One thing that Wes said that was key, was that he appreciated that management was willing to make this move for this season especially since LA was willing to push back his surgery because he felt that this season could be special. Having our free agents believe that management will do whatever it takes to win now, is a good thing going into this summer.

I read that Olshey went and talked to the players and ran a few names by them. I thought that was really interesting. I think it's cool that he gets the input of the players before making a major move. If it's a guy that they hate, it's best to know it before you bring them onto the team.

ARRON AFFLALO
CONTRIBUTOR
Dear Portland,

My bags are packed. I’m taking that two-hour flight from Denver to a city that is home to an amazing fan base and a true championship contender. I’m pretty excited; I’d bike out there if we didn’t have a game on Friday night. It’s an opportunity that I’m extremely appreciative of. I can’t say how many minutes I’ll play or shots I’ll take per game, but I’m ready. I know I’m not going there as a starter, although I am a proven starter in the NBA, but if it’s the depth that I can bring to take this team to the next level then dub me an “overqualified backup” — as some have already started doing. I’m ready for any role if it means bringing the Larry O’Brien trophy to your city.

This is my fourth time being involved in a trade but it’s the first time I’ve made the move in-season. Joining and adding value to a team on the fly like this without offseason preparation or a preseason is a different dynamic. That being said, when a team trades for you in-season, it means they’re expecting you to come in and be the player that you’ve always been. In my case, that means being a quality shooter, facilitator and defender. I’m here to give you those qualities. I want to come in and do what I do best on both ends of the court for the time allotted to me.

I’m now surrounded by high-caliber players like Damian, LaMarcus, Nicolas and Wes.

I’ve played on five playoff teams but my impact on those teams was minimal. Back in 2008, when the Detroit Pistons made their run to the Eastern Conference Finals, I was only a rookie. My playoff experience in Denver gave me another taste but each of those years — 2010, 2011, 2012 — ended in first-round exits. The player I am today — one that can give you 15 PPG and play shutdown defense — is ready for this new journey. I’m looking forward to growing and building with this team. I’m looking forward to experiencing a deeper playoff run together.

As excited as I am about this opportunity, I want to make this clear: I’m here to help this team reach its goal of winning a title. It’s been 38 years since the Trail Blazers last won an NBA championship. It isn’t just enough to be a contender — it’s time for us to show the media, fans and most importantly, ourselves, why we’re a championship-caliber team.

I heard Dame say he would miss those two guys when we made the trade, so why does he hate Victor?
