Blazers trade for Afflalo and Alonzo Gee

If Gee sniffs the floor, we're in trouble. He's the insurance for the insurance for the insurance.

My point is that Afflalo will be happy going to a winner. The downside is he is going to have to sublimate his game. He's not used to coming off the bench, and he's going to have to find a way to be happy with it. That's tougher than one thinks when you're essentially in a contract year.

You could be wrong about this, and I hope you are. I'm thinking the team runs a bit more and Afflalo gets the green light, i.e. is encouraged to be more aggressive. He's the undisputed star of the 2nd unit. This could make him even happier than before.

Nice I'm excited about this trade for sure. But it will be interesting come next offseason with so many people that we have to try and re-sign and I imagine we will try to re-sign Afflalo as well.

I just really can't help comparing this move to signing Jimmy Jackson. He was a guy who could have been starting elsewhere in the league, but he was a big physical shooting guard who could shoot the three and defend. I really hope we can keep Afflalo long term. I think he could be exactly the kind of guy that gets us over the hump.

Love the trade. Mixed on the inclusion of Claver. Think he had more, a lot more, more than what we had a chance to see. Think it's one of those things that could come back to bite us. I also think we lose a couple digits in the iq category.

But Afflalo, huge. And it will be a comedy scene with Gee and Mr. Rice

We went to the WCF that year, got swept by the Spurs, traded Jackson and Rider for Steve Smith and should have won it all the next season.

So, if Afflalo is Jackson, that makes Wes Rider. Who's Smitty in this scenario?

I don't know. Who would you trade Wes/AA for?

Mentioned it earlier in the thread, but stylistically, Wes-Afflalo is a lot like Smitty-Bonzi

Good thing these are athletes, not mathletes! Seriously, how could any trade that moved TRob and Barton hurt the collective team IQ?

How do we lose a couple digits in the IQ category while we gave up two of our lowest IQ players? Unless you mean we RAISED a LOT of digits...

Clavers inclusion doesn't matter. Stotts wasn't going to use him this year and he is a FA this summer, no way he's coming back.

Exactly. He might try to catch on with another team, or he might head back to Europe.

Older former All-star 2 guard, not quite on his way out, but slowing down. Played 4 years of college ball in a Great Lake state, drafted 5th overall by the Heat, spent his career in the SE prior to coming here.

Sounds like Dwyane Wade to me.

The shorthand way of looking at it is that the team that got the best player wins.

Our team also suffered with an abundance of marginal players of roughly equal ability. That situation can cause chemistry problems, which thankfully never came to fruition here. It has been alleviated.

I've thought about Wade as a third star. I guess his health would play a big role. The guy is just making so much money though...

Sure he does, but it's less than what Wes/Afflalo will make combined next year.

The similarities to Smitty are significant, though.

Wouldn't it make sense for Afflalo to opt in on that last year of his deal to get paid more when the cap increases too?

It's logical, but maybe he wanted to play Denver's hand by trading him "or he'd walk".

That's what I'm hoping honestly. There are going to be a lot of teams trying to snare Durant next summer and he might want to be there for the leftovers.

Oshey threw some chips in. And not the big ones either. Great pickup and we didn't give up much. If this team is healthy, look out!

I'll say this for Victor and his agent, they lie very well.

Classy guy. He was really unhappy here with his role, but was a true professional. I'll cheer for him when he puts up 14/8 next year in SA.
