Blazers without Aldridge

I gotta admit that I enjoyed that team more than did the rest of the season. I know we were playing bad competition and it wouldn't hold up. My favorite games of the year were the wins against Minnesota and Brooklyn. It wasn't until Aldridge came back that I realized I didn't miss his fadeaway jumpers. At all. What do you think?

Those were all great wins but the wins against Brooklyn and Minnesota were the most fun. I went to the New Year's Eve win in OKC. I had no fun, the trailed the whole game and I was miserable. Then at the very end, we won, but the game as a whole wasn't fun at all.

I have to agree. As great as Aldridge is, I don't like our offense when he's in the game. I hold my breath every time he starts backing his man down, because it's not part of our motion offense. I'd rather see everybody running and cutting and passing the ball, rather than watching Aldridge do his thing.

I'm not calling for a trade or anything but those gams were fun to watch. Also, Aldridge missed 6 games during our 13 game win streak 6 years ago. He came back, had a huge game and we lost. End of streak.

LA wasn't even a focal point of anything 6 years ago. That has no correlation to this year, whatsoever.

It's interesting you can draw many parallels between LA and his team and Roy when he was here. Roy by far was the best player on the court. But we had fans back then that would have preferred to have BRoy off the court because he effected the overall basketball scheme by needing the ball. Fans wanted to run more and for Andre to have the ball because they had better ball movement and fluidity. This team and Damian was better off without Aldridge in the last couple weeks. The team was far more energetic. Better defensively and offensively they were up and down.

Are we about to say that we are better off without Aldridge like we tried to do with Roy?

Aldridge had 36 points in that game that busted the streak.

Absolutely. That's why I said there is no way we could've sustained that level of play without him. But it was enjoyable.

Imo its not as much on offensive end as defensive, he sucks at help defense. Good 1 on 1 defender but when it comes to team defense we get picked apart. He needs to go back to being a leader and needs to defer to Lopez to control the defense on the floor. Lopez can beast on defense when he's not boxing out to pad aldridges board numbers.

This is just silly. You feature your best player. And When is the last time you saw a motion offense? There are lots of opportunities to post up in Motion.

We need to find a way to make Aldridge part of the machine. Not our MVP or focal point or go to guy, just a part of the system.
He has amazing talent but when he or the team starts thinking we're built around him we start losing.

We aren't gonna win shit without LA. But Dame is noticeably more passive when LA plays, and that's not a good thing. To an extent it's kinda similar to what we saw when Westbrook returned and Durant's killer instinct briefly went away.

There are lots of opportunities to post up in Motion.

Totally agree with the first half of your statement. However, playoff basketball slows the pace, at which point a piece like LMA that can command a double team becomes extremely valuable. Much more-so than a couple tough players "who like to bang."

How many times this year has LMA passed out of a double-team, and Batum/Matthews/Lillard swing it to the other side for an open 3? I can't be the only one who has watched this happen repeatedly this season. Also, the 3-man weave, er, motion offense isn't going to win an NBA title, ever. Historically, you don't win NBA titles without an elite offensive player who demands double-teams on the post, or attracts double-teams/traps on the perimeter. Of, if it's LeBron James, both.
