Right now, however, unemployment is extremely low and the likelihood of any of us wanting a job picking lettuce is very low. So maybe it's better to let the migrants do it than to let it rot in the fields.

You actually want the current situation, if you are worried about mass joblessness. When the robots come and displace us, we can displace the illegal immigrant lettuce pickers and dairy farmers. If there are no non-citizens, we have to fight each other for the few remaining jobs.

The majority of migrant workers want to come here to improve their families lives back in their home country. Most of them are hard working honest people.

Leaving their families is a hardship for them. And most of them want to return home to their grandparents and the rest of their families. They are not the problem.

The problem migrant workers are the ones that do not want to return home to grandma. Why do I make this claim?

Simple, look at the crime stats for the towns where the migrant workers live year around. The higher the number of migrant workers that live year long, the higher the crime rate. Towns in the NW with the highest crime rates often have many full time migrants, despite having part time work.

The good migrant workers go back home to their families.

Fair question.

Do the research on the crime stats for various towns. Some data sources will give you the crime rate ranking within their states.

The longer answer is. I spent about three years researching where I would live after I retired. There are many wonderful areas in the PNW. And I researched many of them over the three years.

I always checked the crime rates in every location. That is when I discovered the higher the % of full time migrant workers, the higher the crime rate. To be fair, there are also towns without full time migrant workers with high crime rates, most often drug related crimes.
