I'm shocked, shocked to see there's gambling going on in this establishment!

Oppo research. BFD.

Clinton Campaign and DNC colluded with the Russians to defeat Trump. The dossier was weaponized when given to BuzzFeed.

Oppo research is no big deal. But if you're going to scream bloody murder over collusion with the Russians, this oppo research was exactly that.

Stones. Glass houses.

Clinton campaign, DNC helped pay for work on dossier about Russia and Trump
The dossier has become a lightning rod amid the intensifying investigations into the Trump campaign’s possible connections to Russia.

The Clinton campaign and the DNC, through the law firm, continued to fund Fusion GPS’ research through the end of October 2016, days before Election Day.

Fusion GPS gave Steele’s reports and other research documents to Elias, the people familiar with the matter said. It is unclear how or how much of that information was shared with the campaign and DNC, and who in those organizations was aware of the roles of Fusion GPS and Steele.

The dossier has become a lightning rod amid the investigations into the Trump campaign’s possible connections to Russia.

...

The Clinton campaign paid Perkins Coie $5.6 million in legal fees from June 2015 to December 2016, according to campaign-finance records, and the DNC paid the firm $3.6 million in “legal and compliance consulting’’ since Nov. 2015 — though it’s impossible to tell how much of that work was for other legal matters and how much of it related to Fusion GPS.

After the election, the FBI agreed to pay Steele to continue gathering intelligence, but the bureau pulled out of the arrangement after Steele was publicly identified.

The dossier was published by BuzzFeed News in January. Fusion GPS has said it did not give BuzzFeed the document. Officials have said the FBI has confirmed some of the information in the dossier. Other details have yet to be verified and may never be.

A right leaning perspective.

He writes about "never trumpers" and the "resistance" and their failures.

Trump Presidency Is Shifting Finally Into High Gear As Scandal Engulfs Clintons

Both groups seem to have given up finally on any serious allegation against the president arising from his relations with Russia, and their flirtation with the 25th Amendment (removal by vote of the cabinet and two-thirds of the Congress for mental or physical incapacity) seems also to have flickered away to the dustbin for hair-raisingly absurd ideas, such as the national television campaign in November to persuade a handful of members of the Electoral College to break their pledges to vote for Trump after he had won the election.

The press-confected weekly Trump outrage has addicted half the country and bored the other half numb. It peaked at the nonsense over the temporary travel ban from terrorism-sponsoring or infected countries (when Senator Schumer purported to believe that the Statue of Liberty was weeping, like a statue of Saint Mary in western Ireland), and again after Virginia’s governor, Terry McAuliffe, and Charlottesville’s mayor, Michael Signer, facilitated the tag-team riot in Charlottesville between Black Lives Matter and the Antifa Fascists on one side, and the neo-Nazis and the Ku Klux Klan on the other.

This weekly festival has sputtered down to a pathetic squeak last week, with the claim that the president mishandled a call of condolence to the widow of a soldier (La David Johnson) who died in Niger, as reported by the loudmouthed Florida congresswoman Frederica Wilson, formerly best known for her outrageous reflections on the Trayvon Martin tragedy. Her allegation was eviscerated with stirring finality by the White House chief of staff, General John Kelly, who had spoken with the president about the call and movingly remembered for the White House press corps what General Joseph Dunford (now chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff) had said to him when General Kelly’s son was killed in action in Afghanistan.

The mudslinging and scandal-mongering section of the Trump Dementia psychopathic ward has been scraping deeper and less fruitfully into this barrel for months, but are unlikely to exceed the shriekings of Ms. Wilson for sheer and tasteless futility anytime soon.

Wow, that's the worst weaponization ever, since Buzzfeed published it 2 months after the election.

To hurt Trump's presidency.

They gave it to the FBI/CIA with the hope they'd do something pre-election. They fed it to journalists and used it in speeches.

So yeah, they weaponized it.

The funny thing is Hillary says the Russians weaponized her emails. That's like suicide.

This shit will be swept under the rug when Russia involved Trumpo gets his.

Hey look - here's another article from you guys's new favorite news source:

GOP spin about the new ‘Steele Dossier’ story is disingenuous nonsense

Here's one quote for you:

At this point we have to emphasize that we already knew that Steele’s work was funded by Democrats. Or more precisely, at first the project was funded by Republicans, and then when Trump became the nominee it was picked up by Democrats. David Corn of Mother Jones first reported on it in October 2016:

So my bad, we didn't know it in March 2017. It was 5 months earlier.

I will be sure to hold it in the high esteem that I hold all right-wing bloggers. And really, Denny, why bother quoting guys like that when they're about on a par with your very own right-leaning perspective?

So let's see. Trumpers are saying:
1. That whole Pee Tape thing is a FILTHY LIE. Anyone who believes that stupid dossier thing is crazy! They obviously made it up!

and

2. The dossier containing the Pee Tape was a product of COLLUSION AT THE HIGHEST LEVELS! THE RUSSIANS WERE ATTACKING DONALD TRUMP with that obviously false tissue of lies that nobody would fall for.

I know right!?!?

:biglaugh:

To hurt Trump's presidency.

You'd have to ask Buzzfeed why they published it. Lots of news organizations had it at that point but didn't publish it.

They gave it to the FBI/CIA with the hope they'd do something pre-election.

As I understand it, Christopher Steele himself gave it to the FBI. Since he's a Brit, probably not that invested in who actually won.

It was thought to be funded by some democrat not close to the Clinton campaign, just a supporter.

Seems like you're squirming on this one.

There you go. Right on both points.

And

3. The media will say banana (the dossier is true!) over and over again even though it's an apple.

Serious question for you and Rasta.

What do you think of WikiLeaks?

I'll go first: I think it's been a great public service. That goes for the Clinton emails and abu grahib and the NSA spying program. All of it. The public has the right to know. That's my opinion.

I think the general concept of whistleblowing is a good one. I am not sure that Wikileaks approach of massive data dumps is the right way to go about it.

Does the public have a right to see all of every candidate or elected official's emails, or just the ones you don't like? If Gary Johnson is emailing some woman or man about having an affair, or getting a pizza, does the public have a right to know that? Why?

Does the public have a right to see documents that put soldiers or other public employees in harm's way? For instance, is it ok if wikileaks publishes a list of covert overseas CIA operatives if the list is part of a larger dump? Is whistleblowing the single greatest good, and all other considerations should be of less import?

The emails shouldn't be damning in the first place. Nor should anything else they published.

As long as they're not stealing the documents themselves, they have every right to publish it all.

That goes for W, for Gary Johnson, for Trump, for Hillary. If they can't stand up to the light of discovery, they're basically cockroaches.

So if they pay people to steal documents which they then publish, that's ok?

What if your emails were stolen and published, on the theory (perhaps incorrect, but no one can say for sure) that you might run for office one day? That ok?

I doubt many people in the world give a rat's ass if their emails were exposed to the public.

Everybody knows the NSA has a complete record of every American's emails going back at least a decade, and besides that only an utter moron...

would ever refer to crimes or anything serious in an email. Emails are the tech version of a post-it note, and not much use for anything else.

Ironically, a letter mailed through the USPS is still the most secure form of communication known to man.
