Personally, I think this argument can go both ways. I know people who were by the older family members and theyre gay. In cannot say for sure, but in wouldn't be shocked if the abuse was somehow correlated. And I have friends that I grew up with that showed obvious tendencies at a very young age, but they had a similar upbringing to me. I love my friends regardless, and why this matters, why its a debate, why people are judged on this..... Its far beyond me. Like with racism.... Bigots who fear those who are different, or are scared to admit that, they too, are different.

The gay people I know tell me that when they hit puberty, the pictures in Playgirl turned them on, but not the ones in Playboy. Sure seems they are born that way. There were no environmental reasons to choose to be gay, the opposite is true.

A gay man might marry and have children for all sorts of reasons. Like they want to have children.... Duh! Or they fear being discriminated against in employment or housing. Or their parents might disown them if they came out.

I had known this one fellow for 10 years. He got some virus on his computer and asked my help fixing it. While I was working on his machine, I found a bunch of gay porn files. He looked at me like I found out his big secret, which I did... I thought about it for about 2 seconds. You see, he was my friend yesterday, he's still the same person I always knew, so why should I want to stop being his friend? We are still friends to this day, and he's still a good guy. The kicker is I was actually mad at him. He lied to me for 10 years. He didn't trust me with his secret.

A few years later, he meets this guy who did landscaping at his place. They became friends and hung out, etc. when my friend came out to him, he bolted and never came back. I pretty much got why he isn't so openly gay.

Hey TSE, I don't like dick either. I didn't consciously choose to be like this. I am what I am, and I'm comfortable in my own skin. Enough so that what other people do doesn't diminish me.

I am a proud lesbian! (male)

To act like it's a choice, when every gay person you hear tells you it's not a choice, seem pretty close-minded to me.

I think Denny states the "choice" fallacy pretty clearly. People don't choose to be threatened. People don't choose to not have kids naturally. The gene(s) could easily be recessive and by having say a gay uncle that does not have to support his own children, but helps to support his nephews and nieces, suddenly that family has 3 parents caring for it. There are clearly gay people in history and modern times that have children to hide their homosexuality, thus they are directly procreating. There have been studies that suggest that all children after the first are more likely to be homosexual based on data on birth order.

The pedophilia thing to me is more likely based on abuse. It is also a fetish. Once someone develops a fetish, which can arise from various things, it is difficult for that fetish to go away. Why do some men fixate asian women? why do some people get off on midgets or feet or S&M or ... the list goes on and on.

What's scary about gay people is that they look exactly the same as us.

I had never had thought you were gay....that is, until you became a mod on S2.

You'll always be the purple squirrel in a brown squirrel world.

Actually, you've always been the squirrelly one. But, there are certain inherent attributes that go along with that. That said, if it involves charging drinks to baby's Visa cards, I'm all for it!

Totally!

No, that you consider your ignorance to be acceptable because some ancient book says it's okay.

Well, yes, my personal viewpoint is acceptable to me. Why wouldn't it be?

I think of it like this:

Our basic primal objectives are to survive and procreate. That's it. It's very hard to shy away from one of them. I don't want kids ever, but I still want to have sex (with a female), and one could argue that besides the obvious guy reasons for wanting to have sex, one of the reasons is because that is how to procreate. I'm driven to procreate.

A gay person cannot procreate if they had sex with the same sex. It's not going to happen no matter how hard they try. They are going against one of their most basic instincts. Something has to be genetically different about them.

Dr. Starr, a geneticist, said that "almost all the data shows that being gay is not a choice".

So can you be gay without taking any action? You confuse temptation with choice. Taking action makes us what we are. We all get tempted with stuff, we all think about things we never do. Everything requires action, action is a choice.

so before kissing a girl, or having sex, if you're a male, you're not a heterosexual, and acting on your feelings is what makes you heterosexual? That makes no sense.

If youre gay, and you take no action, or go with it, as I would argue, that would mean youre gay and you took no other action, you simply are gay. Taking action if youre gay would be an attempt to alter your course, and be straight.

Absolutely you are born. Do you think these people choose to be ridiculed?
