Boston NESN blasts Rangers as biggest losers!

Kreider has another year left, so he doesn't get a raise. And the cap will go up 3 or 4 mill and MSL will come down at least 2.5 if not 3 mill, or he will be gone.

I do think Hags or MSL will need to go unless MSL takes WAY less. And that is okay as he will be 40. Lindberg and Buch will be up IMO.

Once Step signs long term all the key guys are signed long term outside of Kreider and Hayes.

No shot Yandle gets dealt if they are in SC contention next March. Zero. If for some strange reason they are teetering at the cut line i could see it.

Interesting, because he traded Cally last season and he was getting ready to deal Zucc this season until he accepted 4.5 mill.

Anyway, who cares. This is a pointless useless debate I have zero interest in getting into right now.

Yandle to the defense is far more important than Zucc to the offense. Plus they would've dealt him for another offensive piece. Callahan they dealt only for more O in MSL. To deal Yandle for just picks/prospect during a playoff season defeats the purpose of bringing him here and leaves us back at square one with a milktoast offense on the backend.

Anyway, I think we have enough youth here and a lot of our core guys signed longer term that I really don't see it becoming a huge issue. Worst case maybe MSL or Hags are gone next season, and if so not the end of the world.

I do agree with one point only, not having a high pick in 2015 may hurt as this is going to be a deep draft. Now looking at the 1st round draft picks for NY Rangers since 2004. How many of the picks actually worked out? I see two picks so far.... Stall and Krieder. We don't know about others yet. JT and Dylan McIrath don't impress me that much. I don't think it will be too hard to replace those two if need be. Skjei has not played in NHL yet.

We all were very high on Del Zotto at some point. Had we taken Fowler instead of Dylan McIlrath probably that pick would have worked out. Most of our picks came in later rounds that should have been in the first. Stepan should have been 5th overall that year, Callahan and Dubinksy should have been 1st rounders. I am not even mentioning Lundqvist and Girardi in the prior years.

Let's look.

Had we had better 1st round scouting or luck I would agree with the article.

Here are our picks since 2003
2003 - Jessiman
2004 - Al Mantoya
2005 - Stall
2006 - Bobby Sanguinetti
2007 - Cherepanov (rest in piece)
2008 - Del Zotto
2009 - Krieder
2010 - Dylan MacILrath
2011 - JT Miller
2012 - Brady Skjei
2013 - no pick
2014 - no pick

How many 1st rounders do we currently have that were drafted by other teams that are fairly young?

Brassard 2006 - 6th overall
Nash 2002 - 1st overall
Hayes - 2010 24th overall
McDonagh - 2007 12th overall

That's why I'm really not worried about it.

Here is Boston's roster - take a look. How many firs rounders do they currently have? The answer is 4 with 3 drafted by Boston.

I understand they traded some of their picks for certain players but so did we and last time I checked they have the same cap issues just like us. I am not saying that is a bad roster, they are a good team and 2011 SC Champs, but seriously having great scouts is what counts. It today's NHL I see Chicago, LA and Detroit having best picks in recent years.

Chara - NY Islanders #56 overall
Lucic - Boston #50 overall
Rask - Toronto #21 overall
Pastrnak - Boston #21 overall

Exactly proves the point. It is SO overrated dealing a late 1st rounder. Now if you had a top 5 pick, or even a top 10 pick, different story, but not picks in the 20's, especially mid to late 20's like we should have this season, and last season TB got pick # 29 from us...OH NO.

Now I am not saying give those picks away and they mean nothing, but I am also not going to act as if 25 or 26 is some lock stud. He can be, but also decent chance that will be a swing and a miss.

We still have a 2nd and a 3rd this draft. If we are as good at drafting as some think we are, then we'll be fine with those picks. 3 of the last 4 1st rounders we did have turned out well, but I also think we can still get solid players in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

Overall I view this as a win now deal, but I don't view it is selling the future away. I think we have enough young guys, signed long term already, that we can stay a solid team as long as Hank is Hank.
