Not only that he played, which obviously helped, but also that he hit the 3 that gave us the 6 point lead, which we kept until the end of the game.

I'm speechless. This is all.

What really struck me, is how the team played when he *wasn't* on the floor. If they had played those stretches the way they played in games 2&3, the team loses anyway. Roy's willingness to play hurt seems to have shamed them out of their lethargy.

shamed? Maybe gave them hope is a little more like it. But I'm not a grouch. :D

Roy coming back made this win better than the first. The Garden Was Electric when Roy showed up, it was Freaking un-believable!

I crapped myself when I was going to the game and I was hearing rumblings of him being active and then possibly playing on game 5, and then maybe starting today.

I smiled when I saw him warming up and I shit myself when I saw him checking into the game.

I was proud when he put JRich on skates.

I was shocked! I came straight from work so I had no time to listen to grumblings. When I saw him dressed down, I was like oh how nice supporting the team, had no clue he would actually check in!

No doubt JRich being on fire the last two games was because he didn't have B-Roy to deal with

Just think back to the events since the Laker Game April 11th that lead up until today's game. It's almost mind boggling, and I can't think of another example quite like it that I've ever seen.

He injures his knee April 11th vs the Lakers. It didn't appear to be a serious injury, and our fears were alleviated the next morning when we heard the report - "Bone Contusion". No problem we can live with that. So he sits out the last two games and is ready to go for the playoffs. That should give him plenty of time to heal up. Then, like a shot to the gut you didn't see coming later that day we heard - "Torn Meniscus". However, it still might be okay. Brandon was talking like there was no way he was going to miss the playoffs. In yet another startling turn of events just a few days later, and seemingly out of nowhere we hear - "Roy to Undergo Surgery, out for 4-6 weeks" (and there goes our season) It was a bummer. But then something funny happened after the surgery - Brandon felt much better. It started to come to light that if they could get to the 2nd round, it was possible he could come back for that series. What? How did 4-6 weeks become less than 2? Sounded pretty far fetched most of us felt. Then we heard he was moving around, running on treadmills w/o swelling, and had full range of motion. Brandon came out himself and said it was "possible" he could play Game 6 or 7 of THIS Series! Most thought that was a pipe dream. And then how do you put into words what we saw tonight? When he came running out of the tunnel for Game 4, it was surreal. What an absolute roller coaster these last 2 weeks have been.

If only the roller coaster had been just the past two weeks ... this has been the most exhuasting/inspring/eventful season I can ever recall. How are we going to react next year if the team manages to stay mostly healthy?

I would like to know from a medical standpoint how did Roy bounce back so quickly from this surgery? The press is like dumbfounded and nobody has explained why hes suddenly playing. Do we have any scoop yet?

Roy coming back just adds to the craziness of this season. The Blazers refuse to die.

Paul Allen and KP had B Roy fake the injury so that they could plan this big reveal like they did tonight. hahahah

KP is a genius!

NBA Basketball 8 Days After Meniscus Surgery!
April 24th, 2010 by Dr. Pullen
Brandon Roy of the Portland Trail Blazers in the NBA played tonight in game 4 of the Blazers playoff series with the Phoenix Suns. To those of you who are not sports fans, you may say, “So what?” The amazing thing is that Roy had arthroscopic surgery for a torn meniscus 8 days ago. Surgery for a torn meniscus has come a long ways in the last couple of decades. Prior to arthroscopy a torn meniscus resulted in an open surgery and removal of all or most of the meniscus. The recovery took months, and often a return to competitive sports was difficult. Arthroscopy (Arthro for joint and scopy for using a scope) changed all of that by markedly reducing the trauma to the knee capsule and muscles surrounding the knee, making recovery much quicker. Scopes have become smaller, and techniques better over the years. Roy had surgery at Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver, WA by Dr. Don Roberts. I suspect he had only a small part of his meniscus removed, and minimal trauma was done to the other tissues of the knee. He returned tonight to play 26 minutes (just over half of the game) and helped his team to a win.

Things that have been learned about meniscus surgery are that with the much less invasive arthroscopic techniques available now, it is sometimes better to remove the least amount of meniscus possible, risking a later injury to the remaining meniscus that might require an additional surgery, because with arthroscopy doing another later surgery is not nearly as difficult as repeating an open surgery was in the days prior to arthroscopy. Leaving more of the meniscus behind allows the knee to function more normally and potentially leads to less future damage to the osteochondral cartilage, the cartilage that covers the bones the femur and tibia, so it is worth the risk of leaving more meniscus intact. Less extensive surgery also allows a faster recovery and less postoperative swelling, bleeding and pain. Still a return to NBA basketball 8 days after meniscus surgery must be some sort of record.

My son and my daughter’s boyfriend are big Blazers fans, so this is one aspect of modern medical progress that has made for a great weekend in the Pullen households.

I thought it was a poor idea. I don't think he was the reason you guys won, and he risks his future for a first round game. Doesn't make sense to me.

He was COMPLETELY the reason we won. Did you see LMA prior to tonight? Roy's presence completely opened up things for him. PLUS- Roy hit the two most important shots of the game in the 4th quarter.

LA had 10 points in the 1st quarter before Roy even checked in. Brandon's presence undoubtedly pumped up the guys and crowd, but players other then Brandon share credit for stepping up.

I wonder if LMA bought Brandon that dinner-of-choice he obviously owes him for the 31 he dropped on PHX yesterday.

I don't get it. The team, and media, has said it was a minor injury/surgery, but Brandon in the post-game interview on TNT said it was a major tear.

yeah, I heard the same response from Brandon and wondered the same things.

Any tear that take's Brandon out of the game is probably major to him.

Well when I go to see Brandon when I am sick he always says things are worse than they are, he is a terrible doctor.

He also thought his hammy injury was severe, then went out, played on it, and never looked back. Maybe he's just a touch sensitive.

All of the doctors have said there is no heightened risk of future injury. It is unseeingly quick to me as well but if multiple medical professionals say there isn't any risk than I guess I'll trust them.

The crowd was NUTS last night! Probably the loudest I've ever heard it.

I love how Aldridge has been set up...if he fails, it's on him. If he succeeds, he owes Roy for his success. ;) No wonder he's seen as a huge disappointment.

Absolutely. Because Roy has blown through his perceived ceiling, LMA gets looked at as an underachiever for being "who they thought he was" which was still good enough to be a Top 5 pick. LMA is a fantastic, skilled, smooth player. He fits perfectly in a system built for him to succeed. That is not a fucking crime!

I would like to amend your statement with "by some". LMA has been as good as Sheed at age, if not better.

B-Roy is a legend already imo.. just a warrior who wants to win and cares about this team. I love it.

During the Bulls/Cavs game, Hubie Brown was just praising Roy's efforts last night. He seemed to think that the critics of the move are idiots.

To me it seems LA can get hot, and was bound to have another nice game after a couple of cold nights. A regression to his mean.
