Is he anything like Jason Jennings?

yeah, I think that's what it meant from the "trailblazer" part. He was one of the best players coming out of Oak Hill Academy (High School). And that's saying alot considering the players that have come from that program. The year in Europe will do him a world of good since it will get him more structured to a "team" type of play...and with his court vision and passing ability he will come into next years draft as a surefire lottery, possibly a top 10 pick.

Just to give some people an idea of the seriousness of the school he played for and thier tradition of churning out top NBA talent, I've listed the players that have done well in the NBA (and a couple in College right now) keep in mind all these players are coming out of this one school....insane!!!

Josh Smith
Jerry Stackhouse
Carmelo Anthony
Stephen Jackson
Rajon Rando
DeSagana Diop
Jeff McInnis
Ron Mercer
Marcus Williams
Steve Blake

and in college: Ty Lawson & Eric Devendorf

That's a pretty impressive Prep School to say the least.

I just want to make sure we're clear on this. When a whistle is blown (for a foul), the clock stops.

I think the "trailblazer" part means that he's the first highly recruited college freshman to chose Europe over the NCAA.

He was kinda forced to sign over in Europe. He signed his letter of intent with Arizona...but did meet the acedemic requirements...so it only made sense that if he was ineligible to play in college for his year between the pros, he might as well play overseas and make money while progressing as a team player. If he shows serious improvement when draft time comes around...I can see more players doing this. More likely the one who need the money to help support family and what not...this is a very decent option to playing in college...who pretty much pimps the players for TV deals brings in butt-loads of cash for the schools...lol...just playing!!! But it does seem unfair when a player does get caught excepting money....they attempt to make them out like thier the scum and a big disgrace to the game of basketball. I can see if the player was getting paid off just to come and play at a school...but....I mean what was so bad when OJ Mayo received game tickets from Carmelo? seriously? All that was, was a friend hooking a friend up to see a game...

Rod Strickland (news to me), Corey Alexander, and William Avery also went there, and Kevin Garnett made multiple visits before deciding against it.

I can't believe i missed Rod Strickland...oops....but I didn't want to put Corey Alexander ad William Avery since they did absolutly zero in the NBA....lol

And I thought I heard about KG visiting, but I couldn't find a link...:dunno:

I started there for 2 years dogg!

By the standards of most schools, just getting someone to the NBA is a major accomplishment!

oh, don't get me wrong...that is a great accomplishment in it's own right. it's just after listing the names I went on to say...contributers in the NBA (don't know if you read that post...:devilwink:). And since Alexander and Avery didn't do anthing once they got in...I didn't list them.....if I said in my post "all these players went on to the NBA"...well that would be different, but I didn't....so I hope that clears things up a lil bit:ghoti:

Sounds good:

Pitted against one of the best defenders in Europe in American guard Ibi Jaaber, Jennings gets to wherever he wants on the court, showing blazing speed, outstanding ball-handling skills, incredible creativity and a real flair for making flashy plays. He makes spot-up and pull-up jumpers from inside and outside the arc, runs the pick and roll to perfection while flicking gorgeous underhanded bounce-passes right on the money to a flashing Andre Hutson, and even tries to go up and challenge former NBA center Primoz Brezec in transition with an emphatic dunk...

One year ago we got the chance to see Jennings practice, scrimmage and play in the week leading up to the Jordan Brand Classic in New York. A few months prior to that, we saw him lead his Oak Hill squad to victory in the Hoophall Classic in Springfield. Comparing the Brandon Jennings we saw then with what we’re seeing now might make you rub your eyes in disbelief.
Gone is the brash, arrogant teenager with the Kid ’N Play style flat-top who dominated the ball in absolute fashion and looked first and foremost for his own shot, his stats and the ultimate high-light play. In his place is a much more mature, respectful young man, always cheering on his teammates, showing great body language and painstakingly trying to do what his coaches ask of him, almost to a fault at times...

The best things that Jennings brings to the table, though, definitely can’t be taught. He’s incredibly fast in the open floor, highly fluid getting up and down the floor, and extremely natural changing directions sharply and attacking the rim. In today’s NBA, where speed is absolutely at a premium like at no other point in time, Jennings has game changing potential as a shot-creator. Look no further than the way a relatively unheralded player like Aaron Brooks has been able to put his stamp on this year’s NBA playoffs for evidence of how valuable a speed demon like Jennings can be in the right offense.

All the bumping and hand-checking he’s been learning to deal with all season long from European defenders might make life a lot easier for him once he reaches the NBA, where everything is much more open thanks to the defensive 3-second rules and much tighter officiating on the perimeter.

What separates him from the Aaron Brooks’ and Monta Ellis’ of the world, though are his playmaking instincts. His talent and creativity with the ball were always evident in the games, scrimmages and practices we saw, as he sees the floor and is capable of making incredibly difficult passes look easy, in a way that no point guard in this draft not named Ricky Rubio can. Over the course of our three days in Rome, we saw Jennings make a handful of mind-blowing plays that hint of an incredible future that is in store, particularly in transition or running the pick and roll.

He should be contractually required to go back to the flat top, though.

If Portland were interested, I think he would be much more obtainable than Rubio, because the value of picks drops precipitously outside of the top 2, especially if a team like Washington or the Clippers is picking #3.

I think the Blazers should get Brandon Jennings and trade for Brandon Wright. Let's have the all-Brandon team.

I agree 100%. I'd love to draft him, and have him grow out the flat top again, and Oden grow out a HUGE 70s style afro and beard.

"And starting at center is Greg Oden... Oden's seven feet tall, seven foot six with the afro..."

That's how we stop Yao next year.:biglaugh:

We should use Bayless/Outlaw to get the Memphis pick and work on getting a hold of Jennings, Rubio (if he stays declared but has to stay a year) or Michael Conley. I'm good with any of the three.

Say we signed Andre Miller too (and cut Blake's ass)

Miller/(Conley/Jennings/Rubio)/Koponen
Roy/Fernandez
Webster/Batum
Aldridge/(vet/Mcdyess)/Freeland
Oden/Pryzbilla

I like that versatility, potential, and experience a lot.

Sure, that sounds great in theory, but I think a lot of people are overestimating just how high the Blazers are going to be able to move up or how much trade value some of our fringe players are going to have in trade. Bayless + Outlaw might get you Jennings (who I'm not sure I'd want over Bayless anyway), but isn't nearly enough to get you Rubio or Conley.

Think of how hard it was to move up from 13 to 11 last year just to get Bayless, now imagine what it would take go from 24 to top ten let alone number 2 overall.

How hard was it? We WANTED to get rid of Jarrett Jack!

It completely depends. Remember how easy it was to move up from 4 to 2 (Tyrus Thomas + Khryapa for Aldridge) or to get the #7 pick (for Telfair) or to move up from 7 to 6 ($3M - okay, that's easy for me, because it's not my $3M) to get Brandon Roy?

I think you're right that a top 2 pick will be exhorbitant, but there's a steep drop off after that, and I think a lot of teams will be quite keen to offload them, particularly financially-strapped teams who want to bundle them with bad contracts (which we are in a position to absorb).
