Rather than retire, we need to have a Blazers HOF and just induct people like Roy into the Blazers HOF. Retiring a number should be reserved for players that were so good that you couldn't possible envision someone else wearing that number.
I agree. Though I was thinking 'Blazers Circle of Fire' lol. Seriously, the retired numbers in this franchise is an utter joke. And no, Roy doesn't deserve his number retired any more than Twardzik or Steele.

According to KP, most of it was insured. I don't think it makes a hill of beans difference to the Blazers at this point.

Does the amount insurance pays change when he comes back and plays again? I wonder what the policy says.

If you have numbers retired for people who are pretty much complete unknowns to anyone outside of Portland, you probably fucked up. Even the casual fan would know who Walton or Drexler is, but pretty much everyone else would have people scratching their heads.

cant really fault the guy for accepting 10 million dollars, but he was a sort of mythical creature before, now, just another flash in the pan

Do some of you still want to honor this jack wagon by retiring his number? Also, take him off your avatars and names if you would please :)

Maybe I should make this my new avatar...

Not so fast. RoyToy can stay alive if we get Roy Hibbert.

Plus, only Kahn would be dumb enough to give the guy $5m/per, when he's already making a max contract. So, thank you Brandon for not only the great years in Portland, but also for taking up even more cap space in Minnesota than was necessary.

Win/win

I thought it's already been covered here that he is not making extra money. The 5 million per is covered as part of the money we're paying him.

Sure its been discussed and not saying I want it, but.....

Can an amnestied player be signed by another team and traded back to the club the amnestied before the original contract is up?

I don't believe so

he cannot play for portland until his amnestied contract is over

I've said this for years! I think Walton and Drexler deserve it, I'd even toss in Lucas for being the steadying force for so long and he was a part of the 77 team, the rest of the players have no business being up there.

Agreed. I think they could make a grand announcement that the Blazers were instituting a HOF to soften the blow of those that may be offended, and given some time re-work the retired jersey system for players deserving of it. That would make it a much more meaningful honor for sure.

I would definitely not retire his number. He just didn't do it long enough, never got us out of the first round.

We won't retire his number but it would be funny to see Minnesota retire his number.

I'd also throw Terry Porter into the mix, but that's it. BRoy isn't even in the conversation with his tragic career.

I think we should give his number a medical retirement. The jersey would hang from the ceiling of Jay Jensen's office. Then take it back down after a few months.

Have you ever had a car accident? Insurance pays in the short run. But they have to make a profit. You pay in the long run, in increased premiums.

Paul Allen is paying that $80 million one way or the other.

What cluster fuck? He was amnestied, which is what the Blazers wanted. Amnesty got the most money off the books the quickest, as I recall. Roy didn't screw the Blazers over in any way.

Why was there so much money necessary to be removed from the books? Because after publicly lobbying for Allen to surrender to the Roy-Pritchard alliance, Roy disclosed his medical problems right after signing the contract.

Ultimately, Lawrence said, Roy decided he wanted to join former Portland assistant coach Bill Bayno with a franchise he decided was "a team that's headed north."
...
Roy said he plans to move his wife and two young children to Minnesota, planning that it will be his future beyond the contract's two years. When asked by the Wolves at the meeting about the prospect of living in the frozen north, Roy said he wants his kids to experience a white Christmas.

Hope it works out for the best for Roy. I'll be shocked if he can play over 20 MPG or on back to backs.

I predict that this is the acquisition which will bring down the mighty Kahn.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall.

Serious question for all of you Blazer fans. What do you honestly think Roy's got left in the tank? As a fan of the Wolves I'm good with the signing, and I think it's worth a shot. I'm just looking for a little perspective.
