Brandon Rush signed to 10 day contract

Hopefully this means Layman won’t be active. Unlike Jake, Rush has actually proven he can shoot a basketball and would be much more useful in an emergency.

Hell I'd be fine if he started instead of Harkless.

To be fair, considering the form of our other small forwards, I wouldn't be shocked if he gets significant minutes and manages to impress.

I would have preferred to do something that Utah did with Royce O'Neale, i.e. pick up someone much younger who is out of NBA but has the potential to be a good 20 mpg player going forward but it's not that easy to come across such players and having veteran presence like Rush won't hurt.

Not sure but I assume that they want someone who has enough experience that can actually play this year. A young guy with potential would never see the floor this season. And who knows if we could sign him this summer.

Rush is only 32 so if he is in shape he could help, but even if he doesn't there is no downside I can see.
Rush is a such a bad and washed up player though. If someone gets hurt I'd rather put Baldwin out there or play Aminu at SF more.

He is much worse than the SFs we're playing right now, and that's saying something.

Laat season he played:
Per 36: 6.9ppg, 3.5rpg, 1.6apg, 37FG%, 38 3pt%

You're missing the point though: Olshey finally did something! One of the laziest GMs in the league actually got off his chair and did something.

Maybe after a few reps he'll begin to actually scout unknown\undrafted players and give them a shot too, but that's a lot to ask from one of the laziest GMs in the league.

I'll be honest, this is a puzzling move.
When Turner & Harkless were playing like complete garbage...
A player who can hit a three, and play a little defense at the forward spot would've made logic.

But now that Turner & Harkless are playing much better, Harkless specifically... I just don't see why you then add a forward like rush.
Well unless one is hurt.
Turner does have a calf or leg injury whatever it is. Maybe it'll keep him out longer than expected, and they need a warm body to go against in practice.

Blazers have to sign someone. This is a 10 day. They can take a look see and make a decision. If they have to sign someone why not sign a guy that has playoff experience and can hit a three. Is he a game changer? No. Does this make sense? Yes.

"Well unless one gets hurt" is a good enough reason for me. If he physically can't play they should be able to see that in 10 days. So again not much down side.

Do we know that for sure?

Did he have a good season last year in Minnesota? no.
Did he gave a good year in GS the year before? Yes- He looked great against us when he went 8-9 ( 4-4 from deep)

So did he really become washed up in one season, or was the success and non-success due to the team (and the style they played) that he was on at the time?

I'm underwhelmed by the signing. The only upside I see is that you can put him in a game that counts and he won't fall on his face.

I've never met him so I can't speak to what he brings to the locker room. Having been with the Blazers already, management and the players at least know him.

I don't think the signing matters much. It's NO doing his duty to add another player to the roster.

To many times Turner and MO have been absent on offense and honestly Rush is a much much better three point shooter. This gives us another weapon on the wing if the guy wants to re-ignite his career?
He can also play some two guard...worth a shot!

I agree.... it is worth a shot. How many times have we been in a position this year where we really needed that 3rd guy to spread the floor and keep the defense honest. Games where other teams dared some of our other shooters (besides Dame and CJ) to take the open shot late in games. In those situations I wished we still had Crabbe camped out on the perimeter. Napier can fill that role in some matchups but not all.

No doubt when Hark is on, he is the best option. But if he goes cold again it would be nice if we had another option. We are only talking 24 games and maybe the playoffs. A veteran like Rush may be a better option coming in cold off the bench vs a G league player IMO....... Assuming he is in good shape.

Since they HAD to sign someone, this move could’ve just been made to buy time. Time for all the buyouts to be finalized. It’s a short term commitment to satisfy league rules. The fact that they didn’t just convert Baldwin’s contract tells me they’ll be looking to add someone else after the ten days are up. If they just wanted to take a scouting look at someone with the future in mind they would’ve signed a younger player. I think they have their eyes on a buyout guy.

Certainly better than Alonzo Gee.

Jason Quick will be there doing an Insider article due to a tip from a random fan on the plane.

Meanwhile Clownzano will be at his desk writing an outsider article about how terrible and futile Rush's time will be here in Portland.
