It just dawned on me that Brandon Rush hardly gets mentioned around here when talking about the Bayless trade. We didn't just trade Jack to get Bayless. We traded Rush as well (not to mention Josh McRoberts). Rush had 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists in a win over the Heat tonight. All we have to show for Jack AND Rush, is the 11-1 Hornets' draft pick? Ouch. Someone fucked up here. Our bench could use both of those guys right now.

The fuck-up was trading Rush and Jack for Bayless, who will never be as good as either one of them.

I always liked Rush in college and was surprised he wasn't more appreciated. Too similar to Roy, I guess. The ol' Jordan and Drexler conundrum...

Rush also missed the first five games of the season due to smoking pot. I take Rudy or Wes over him any day and am a Pacer fan.

I know no one wants their players to miss games.. but does anyone really care if they smoke weed? Definitely take him over Rudy.

But, but....

We have Claver, Koponen and Freeland developing! They're the frosting to this cake, right?

Well, in Kingspeed's mind...Yi, Blatche, Maggette and Rush.

Thats 4.

Where's the love for Linas Kleiza? He's a former Blazer who once scored 41 points in a game. That's GOT to make him Future All-Star worthy.

I would guess there are current Blazers that light up and that is their business. However, I would hate to see it in the media. You have to be pretty irresponsible to fail three tests. Doing that with Indiana at Jail Blazer fan level disgust, plus not producing stellar numbers are just a recipe for disaster.

i said this 2 years ago....

hes exactly what we need!!!!! a scorer off bench

You must be smoking some of that kind bud Rush seems to like so much. He's been a non-factor the first two years of his career -- decent games sprinkled amongst an avalanche of disappearing acts.

We could have had Rudy Gay, Rajon Rondo, or Paul Millsap instead of Roy.

Brandon Rush was terrible in his first two years and this year, at age 25, has made the jump to mediocre in a small sample of games. This is the last guy I regret the Blazers "missing" on. He's all of three months younger than Rudy, so he has no more upside than Rudy does.

Went to a Clippers game and saw Randy Foye last night, he sucks

You win some, you lose some

Yep.

I liked Brandon Rush in college, but I was in favor of the move for Bayless. He just didn't pan out. The draft is an inexact science. You're not going to get it right every time.

I wonder if there is anywhere that has a success rate by team for draft picks. Like the percentage of players that lasted past their first contract or had stats at or above some minimum baseline.

I saw something like that by pick, but not by team.

Anyway, I would guess that it works less then half the time all things considered.

You could take the player's efficiency stat (or effectiveness or PER or win share or Roland Rating) and multiply by draft position (since the team should get more credit for finds later in the draft).

Then for each team, average this stat for all its draft picks. Then rank them.

The numbers will vary too widely, so you would want to square root the two numbers in the top paragraph before multiplying them. Or cube root.

Even after his big game last night, Rush has a PER this season, after all of NINE games, of 14.0.

Bayless, last season, in 74 games, had a PER of 14.3 on a 50 win team. By comparison, the much older Rush, was a starter on a 50 LOSS team and posted a PER of 9.6 in over 30 MPG. That's just flat out awful and made him one oif the worst starters, at any position, in the entire league.

One good game does not a good player make.

All that shows is that Rush is statistically improved this year. Didn't he suffer a knee injury or two late in college? Maybe he's just now getting back to the form that had him perceived as an early lottery talent initially.

I never said Rush would be an All Star. He's just a better shooter than who we have and we wound with nothing for him. I've never said a THING about Maggette. Not sure where you got that. And all I ever said about Blatche was that IF he maintained his numbers from that stretch last season, he would become an All Star. Never said he would. As for Yi, you'll see, hahahahahaha!

Sounds like Rudy except Rush shoots 40% from the three point line and is a better rebounder. And the point is we got NOTHING for him.
