Zombie Brandon Rush... we got pritch slapped.

Amen brother.

We would have a whole lot less fluff and get to the substance much quicker and much more enjoyable for most as well.

Yep exactly... I used to try and just talk and reason with people.. but some people you cant just reason with. We have a few here. I hope a lot of us adopt the same mentality, to just not take the bait, or not feed the trolls. That will hopefully change the way those posters bitch and moan too.

Here is my point. Sometimes when Nate McMillan is your team's coach, in order for you to get him to stop playing somebody named Jarrett Jack, you have to literally trade them off the team to get it done. It's the same deal now with Steve Blake. The only way Nate will quit starting that dude is if we trade him.

Really, so who should he have played? Sergio Rodriguez... We heard these calls before - and the results once he was forced to play Sergio were uggggg ly.

This is kind of like complaining that Nate played Bassy the first year he was here. He had to - there were no better choices at the time...

I worry you might be right about this. I hope Nate has better talent evaluation/chemistry understanding then that, but you could be right. I pray that you are not.

well said. Its funny how people complain.. yet there were NO better options.

Well, since you asked, in '07-'08 I would rather Roy have played more minutes at the 1 with Martell at the 2 than have Jack at the 1 and Roy at the 2.

Roy can play the point yes.. but having him chase around 1's for a season is not a good idea.. he would break down a lot faster IMO.

Really? You would have rather played "no handles" 12 PER Martell that can not attack the basketball from the dribble with a TS% of .548 over 13 PER, .558 TS% and can attack the rim from a dribble Jack that could actually get the ball over the half-court line instead of have Roy do it all the time?

I know that people think JJ is a bad PG - but his 22.7% AST% is miles better than Webster's 7.0% that year. While Roy can handle the ball a lot and create - he was already at 28.7% AST% at the time next to Jack and Blake. You would have killed him trying to guard point guards and being the sole ball handler running the offense if he did not have other people helping him.

If you see what the Blazers tried to do this year when they went FA shopping? They tried to bring people to take the pressure off Roy, while you suggest they should have given him more work and burdened him further?

I am pretty sure that this act shows that the Blazers think the complete opposite of what you just suggested...

Guys, stop feeding the troll. Brandon Rush puts up 20/6/3 in a preseason game and it gets a thread? Seriously, where's the thread bitiching about passing on A.J. Price? He put up similar stats (16/4/4) on better shooting (6-9 vs. 6/14) in 2/3 the minutes. And, we also passed on Roy Hibbert. His stat line (20 pts/11 rebs/8 blks) was WAY better than Brandon Rush's. Crap, based on this game, Hibbert looks like the next Hakeem Olajuwon - god how could we have passed on such a once-a-generation center?

wow... unless you agree with everything pritchard does.. you are troll. sorry but talent wise... we got hosed. rush played great at last seasons end. jack had a wonderful year. bayless couldnt impress in summer league. luckily we have depth cause it was a bad trade.

just like i was wrong at the deadline. just like i was wrong about sergio. just like i was wrong about batum in the playoffs.

it was a bad trade... sorry

Again, I'm talking 10 mpg here, maybe. My thinking, flawed though it may be, is that Martell might have been more effective against 2s than 3s (despite his apparently horrific handle). We've really never seen much of Webster at the 2. Perhaps the size of a Roy-Webster backcourt would be difficult for the opposition to handle. Maybe, maybe not--who knows?

What I do know is that I didn't like the way the team looked when Jack was running the point, and that I'd rather have had Roy do so 10 mpg than Jack.

why do blazer fans get obsessed over average players like bayless??????????????

same thing happened with sergio

b/c we support our team, no matter who it is.

But you obviously dont get that...cuz you're not really a true fan.

It is pretty clear that the Blazers did not like it either - since they traded him - for another PG (even if found to be not ready then and maybe for ever).

I am pretty sure however that the Blazers have enough information on what the team looks like when Roy is the only ball-handler given that they have all these practices that we have no access to - and they have been pretty persistent looking for more people to share ball handling duties with Roy - be it JB, Sergio getting extended minutes, trying to get the Cosmopolitan first and Miller later and even talking about making Rudy more of a ball-handler.

Given this information - I suspect that they do not like the idea of Roy being the primary and only ball-handler and do not consider Webster a good fit at the #2 spot.

his rookie year (11.6 PER) he was used almost exclusively as a SG. Posters actually argued against drafting Roy because Martell was clearly the SG of the future :rolleyes2:

just like we argued bassy was better then paul and williams?

lmao

yah.. we should support all blazers. even the ones who suck like bayless. maybe we can sign HA when joel leaves.

hey im just supporting past blazers. we dont care if they suck! thats why blazer fans have a reputation of pure homers.

I was on the lonely side of that argument too. The problem with your comparison is that Brandon Rush hasn't exactly set the league on fire thus far and he's 24 this year. A good preseason performance doesn't change how poorly he's done in games that matter.

HERES WHAT IM ASKING...

If youre an nba gm.... would you trade bayless for rush/jack?

i say no brainer.. unless you are stacked at pg, sg or sf

to be fair... blazers kinda are but still i think kp made an awful deal

At this point, I would not. I still think Bayless is going to break-out sooner or later - and when he does - his value would be higher than these 2 - and I am a bigger fan of JJack than many on this forum.

At the end of the day it seems to me that JJ and Rus hare both going to be rotation players in the NBA or border-line starters - where JB will be a definite starter.

So - with all due respect - I still think rolling the dice on JB was the right thing to do. Am I certain JB will be better? No. If he does - do I think it will necessarily happen on this team? No. But I still think that when all is said and done - his value will be higher - and if that is realized by his play for the Blazers or by value we get for him via a trade - it does not matter.

Rush, despite being "the most NBA-ready" prospect in the draft and being fairly close to his prime in his rookie season (age 23) and despite playing a solid number of minutes per game...had an absolutely horrific season. He put up a 9.0 PER. For a player who likely doesn't have much upside, that makes his chances of being a good NBA player pretty tiny.

Bayless had a similarly bad season, but was much younger, wasn't considered NBA-ready and got very few minutes (and what he got was sporadic). He has more and superior tools and more pre-prime years to improve.

There isn't a single GM in the NBA, IMO, who would rather have Rush over Bayless. Both were terrible as rookies, one has a real chance to improve significantly. That one isn't the 24 year old.

I agree with STOMP and crowTrobot that, if Portland missed, it was having the Pacers select Bayless over Randolph for them. But I think Bayless was a perfectly reasonable pick at the time and I think Bayless still has the ability to make the pick look good. His rookie season was disappointing to me, but I do think it's tough for a raw prospect to get the hang of NBA game speed when he gets so few and irregular minutes.

I think Mixum's head will explode when he sees DeJuan Blair's numbers.

Brandon Rush, Bayless, Jack; These are all guys who would not (and in Bayless's case will not) see any PT on this current Blazer team. Too many guys at their positions who are flat out better.

Bayless may someday become an everyday NBA player, but I am guessing that happens somewhere else.

spoken like a true homer (see 2 posts above)

Well, you can say bad stuff about the Blazers. Just make sure it is correct, accurate and relevant.
