Trades don’t matter when you have a clueless GM who has no plan. It doesn’t matter who they bring in it to coach. They’re doomed because this front office is absolutely miserable.

I’ve never seen the kid play like 99% the morons saying the return sucked. But based on scouting reports it seems like he’s got high upside. It’s not a retool. It’s going to be a total rebuild and when you totally rebuild, you need to suck very badly to get super high picks that even our moron scouts can’t fuck up. Lafreniere and Kakko they managed to fuck up, but everybody had them rated that high.

I’m just as concerned about firing our scouts as I am Drury they all need to go.

It wont take long before this trade can be accurately graded or evaluated. Obviously the hope is that LA goes on a run, makes the playoffs and wins a couple rounds but the chances of that are basically non-existent as they aren't in playoff position at the moment. IF they make they playoffs they will likely need to beat two out of Vegas, Edmonton and Colorado. It's not going to happen.
Can you find a talented NHL caliber player in the 3rd round, obviously yes but the chances of that player being an impactful or difference-making player are slim.
It really comes down to Greentree and his transition into the NHL. He'll certainly get a handful of games at the end of the season and then he'll be thrown to the proverbial wolves at the start of next season...which by all indications is going to be another slog as the team continues to shed it's valuable players. So, good luck developing him into a confident and competent NHLer!

This is the point, it doesn't matter. I know we cannot just fold up our tents and go cry in the corner, but the truthful sad reality is the Rangers are horrific and have no future at all. Drury has destroyed everything here. He has made so many terrible trades, I cannot even count anymore. He has recycled through coaches like candy. He is so bad at his job, it an embarrassment, and VERY par for the course with Dolan, that Drury still has a job. He should have been fired after last season.
Also yeah, we had zero leverage with Panarin, but again Drury has created a toxic environment here. Players are outwardly saying F you to the Rangers. Truth be told, only 2-years with an $11M cap hit isn't bad (especially when you see all the top UFA's have re-signed so the UFA field is empty this summer - Panarin would have been by far the # 1 player available), the Rangers maybe should have brought Panarin back for that, but from everything I read he wouldn't have signed that deal to stay here, he was done with the Rangers/Drury. On the way out Panarin had one more F you to Drury, send me to LA or nothing, thus limiting our return. With all his shenanigans and lack of communication and respect to multiple players, they are done with this clown Drury, and by extension the Rangers. You can trade the players he did, but do it with communication and respect, Drury did none of it.
This whole package of everything is why I say Drury has absolutely destroyed the organization and we have no future at all. This is the result of putting a guy in roles where he is in over his head and not qualified to execute, then it gets compounded by Dolan's refusal to fire the guy. It really is terrible.
In order for the 2026 third round pick to become a 2026 second round pick, the Kings need to win one round. It is at best questionable they'll even make the playoffs, but if they somehow do, they'll have to play Colorado, Vegas, or Edmonton most likely, so they'll lose round one anyway, which means the 2026 pick stays a third rounder AND we do not get the 2028 fourth rounder (the Kings need to win two playoff rounds for us to get this pick).
Bottom line is the trade will be Panarin FOR Greentree and a 2026 third round pick (the better of LA's or DAL's third round pick).
A third-round pick and a 3rd line wing for Panarin. Another wonderful trade by Drury, which was forced by Panarin saying F you Chris.
Mark it down now, the only other moves will be an underwhelming return for Trocheck and Schneider, and maybe Drury will give Lafreniere away for pennies on the dollar as well (although he may hang onto him). No one of any consequence will go, Zibanejad, Fox, Miller etc. all no shot to get traded because Drury burned so many bridges the players are all like F you, I ain't going nowhere Chris!!!

Morash on WFAN is a moron. Greentree can’t skate in his opinion, which is bullshit. He had to work on the skating and he made tremendous strides from all scouts.

Ask Casey Torres about coaching Liam Greentree, and he answers quickly.
“I’m glad to go into battle with him,” Torres said a little more than a year ago, in the simplest terms he could.
At the time, Torres was the Windsor Spitfires’ coach and Greentree was preparing for the 2024 NHL Draft.
That January, Torres had named Greentree his captain, a rare honor for a draft-eligible player, just a couple of weeks after his 18th birthday. Greentree went on to lead the Spitfires in goals (36), assists (54) and points (90). The 36 goals and 90 points — which came on a young team that won only 18 of 68 games and finished last in the league’s Western Conference — were both the most by a draft-eligible forward in the OHL that year. He’d also played in the 2024 CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in Moncton, N.B., scoring Team White’s goal in a 3-1 loss, and was named to the OHL’s First All-Rookie team after leading all rookies with 25 goals in the 2022-23 season.

“He was our best player, captain, leading scorer. He was awesome. Leadership’s not easy, and he has taken that role with open arms,” Torres said. “I think there are brighter days ahead for the Windsor Spitfires, and I think they’ll be as early as this upcoming year because of the amount of experience that he and our ’06 group gained. We really entrusted a lot (in him) in a league driven by 19- and 20-year-olds.”
At the end of Greentree’s draft year, NHL Central Scouting listed him as its 14th-ranked North American skater for the 2024 draft, making him the second-highest OHLer behind Oshawa’s Beckett Sennecke (who ranked 13th).
“A good combination of size and skill — he is very effective at driving the play to the net and getting open to shoot,” NHL Central Scouting’s report read. “He protects the puck well and is hard to check, especially off the cycle slipping into scoring areas. Good offensive creativity and confidence with the puck, makes plays using his soft hands in tight, he has an NHL shot and release. Plays his best and gets consistent results when playing the power forward game.”
Torres, who is also a former amateur scout with the Pittsburgh Penguins, felt he should have been a top-15 pick and that he was a first-rounder “all day.”
“I love his work ethic, I love his character, I love his transferable skills, the way he shoots the puck, the way he competes, he’s a hockey nut, and he’s certainly a guy you’d want in your organization,” Torres said.
The Los Angeles Kings drafted him with the No. 26 pick.

As Torres predicted, the Spitfires took a step on the back of their captain, losing to the Kitchener Rangers in Game 7 of the second round of the OHL playoffs. In their run, Greentree elevated once more, registering 14 goals and 24 points in just 11 playoff games for combined totals of 63 goals and 143 points in 75 regular-season and playoff games.

His play earned him an invitation from Hockey Canada to attend the World Junior Summer Showcase in July in Minneapolis, which he had to miss to rehab a hand injury.
Today, Spitfires general manager Bill Bowler calls him “an elite performer in our league” and lauds his maturity, character, leadership and progress.
“He just keeps getting better and better,” Bowler said.
Chief among his progress has been his improved skating, which he has worked hard at with power skating coach Kyle Allard and by strengthening his legs in the gym. (The Spitfires listed him at 6-foot-3 and 216 pounds last season, which would have made him the fourth-heaviest Kings forward, behind Quinton Byfield, Anze Kopitar and Tanner Jeannot.)
“He’s got a powerful long stride now,” Bowler said. “He’s becoming a man. The hockey ability, the knack of scoring, the shot have always been evident. I think Liam has the ability to score and create offense regardless of the opponent. He generates it all by himself, and he was always a consistent performer. But there’s no question for me (that the skating is there now). I see him blow away from the opponent, and that’s obvious now.”
Spitfires teammate and Chicago Blackhawks prospect AJ Spellacy calls Greentree “an exceptional player.”
“He’s got an unreal shot — NHL shot already. His ability to protect pucks all over the ice is a big part of his game and will continue at the next level. That’s where he has success, is with his patience and his puck protection,” Spellacy said. “Off the ice, he’s a great guy. He leads by example, but when things need to be said on the ice or in the room, he’s someone who will step up and say that.”
Ask Greentree about himself, and he talks about his dad, Trevor, a general contractor; his mom, Shannon, a registered nurse; and his older brother. He describes himself as mentally tough, passionate and determined, and his game as hard, tough and having a presence. He’s interested in being an athletic therapist in life after hockey, and likes to play tennis and golf. He models his game after Minnesota Wild winger Matt Boldy and says, “He’s big, he’s strong, he uses his body well, he’s got a good shot, and he’s smart.” He uses a straighter curve than most of his peers these days because of Patrick Kane

The problem with most fans other than being mentally incompetent is when they look at a scouting report i the year they’re getting drafted. They don’t check on scouting reports two or three years after.

I watched that interview with the Spitfires coach and came away impressed, Greentree has leadership skills severely lacking on this team and his size will most likely give him a good look. If all he needs to work on is his skating this was a great trade. Other then blind hatred for Drury, knocking this trade is sour grapes. Drury>Gorton all day

Agree, there is a total lack of leadership on this team.
The trade was whatever. Drury/the Rangers had no leverage, Panarin said Kings only, here we are. Will Greentree become a top 9 wing, sure he could. Was this trade whatever given the circumstances, sure it was (I'm not going to beat on Drury for this one trade). With all that being said, the overall decrepit decaying state of the Rangers, and how Drury has destroyed the organization, doesn't change.
You love to mention Drury is better than Gorton every chance you get, and it continues to confuse me. Not only don't I see the actual results of that, but I will also continue to say, five years into running everything who cares if Drury is better than his predecessor, it doesn't matter one bit. They both suck/sucked at their jobs (in my opinion), because Drury sucks less (in your opinion), does not mean Drury is good at his jobs or deserves to keep his jobs as he has destroyed this organization.

Even I will say it's hard to beat on Drury for his comments after the Panarin trade, what else do you really expect him to say, but he is clueless if he believes the words coming out of his mouth, and if he isn't saying them just because he cannot say anything else:

First, everywhere I looked people said the Rangers can be a contender to get back into the playoffs, no one said legit contender, and no one said lock it down, the Rangers are a playoff team. They saw the lack of depth and flaws we all saw. To be clear, I'm not saying anyone thought they'd be one of the worst 3 teams in the NHL, but they were viewed as a flawed lack of depth fringe type playoff team, that certainly could make the playoffs, but also certainly could miss the playoffs again.
There is absolutely no recognition of reality here with Drury at all, he lives in a fantasy land, and his comments show that once again. Mess has said over and over again, Drury has no plan at all, and he is 10000000000000% spot on, there is no plan here, none. Drury is winging it acting as if this team is close to something that it isn't. Gorton seems to be finding some success up in Montreal. I don't think I can name more than two players on that roster off the top of my head. I assume Gallagher is still there and maybe Armia? No clue who is on that team yet there they are sitting solidly in position to make the playoffs for the second straight year. Meanwhile the Rangers under Drury have gone in the opposite direction.
I'll add onto that, it's sort of interesting that maybe the best season the Rangers have had under Drury was his first season, when it was still a lot of Gorton players. You could make a case the Pres trophy season under Lavy was Drury's best season, but it's close.
What I do know is since his first season, with a lot of Gorton players, the Rangers have had 3 terrible to horrific seasons, and 1 good season (and 3 head coaches), not a good % IMO.
Personally, I happen to think Gorton is/was better than Drury, at least Gorton had a plan and wasn't totally reactionary in everything he did like Drury is. But, as I have said before, to me it is 1000000000000000% irrelevant now since Drury has been here going on 5 years. It doesn't matter one drop if Drury was better or worse than his predecessor at this point in his time here, Drury sucks...hard stop...that's what matters 5 years into his reign of terror.

No need for another War and Peace Chuck, just commenting on the usage of worst Rangers GM, you're feelings about Drury have been made quite clear.. . Gorton did good things in Boston too, what happened here defied statistical probability, forget about the #1s who were not NHL material, his lower tier drafting sucked as well. I don't put it all on the GM, as I wrote before the Rangers scouting system is among the league's worst.

Gorton fucking sucked here. JD controlled the entire draft his one year here. Like Porter, our scouts fucking blow. Time for shitty guitar playing, dickhead Dolan to pay big money to get top scouts in here. Start with Carolina.

The more research I do on this prospect the more I think this guy is gonna be a foundation piece for long time. I did not want us to trade with the Kings because I thought their farm system sucked, but this was the absolute best part we could’ve gotten.
The inconsistency is interesting. Good draft under Gorton, it was JD. With Drury it's the scouts who suck, not Drury, despite the fact Drury is the Pres and GM, which means he controls EVERYTHING in the organization including hiring/firing the "terrible scouts". With Gorton he sucks, period. Not very consistent.
Best case, one could say neither Gorton nor Drury did well here. But again, it does not matter if Gorton was good, bad, great, terrible etc., it is 100% irrelevant five years later. Drury should be judged on his own merits, which is the way it should be five years in, not if he is better than his predecessor. Doing that should very clearly tell anyone paying even a little attention DRURY SUCKS!!!

No inconsistency here, I'm driven by stats not emotion. Gorton had one good draft. From 2010-2019 only Vancouver drafted fewer players that had an NHL career over 200 games. This problem predates Gorton maybe even Sather. Neil Smith was the greatest Rangers GM of my time when they won the Cup but then proceeded to let Messier walk and Keenan leave. Ut has always been the Rangers way to sign free agents because of their ineptitude at developing a farm system, that starts with a broken scouting philosophy.
I agree drafting/building from within has been a problem that predates Drury or Gorton, as does the organization being poorly run as a whole. Frankly, I don't see it ever changing, it is not the NYC, MSG, NYR way to build a good organization, it is the NYC, MSG, NYR way to look for quick fixes with big names and flashy moves. It's a major reason why the organization has sucked like it has overall and has only won one Cup in 86 years. I don't see the philosophy changing anytime soon sadly.
As for the inconsistency, you are being inconsistent when it comes to Gorton and drafting vs. Drury and drafting. You have written, I don't place the responsibility on Drury, or only a very little bit of responsibility, for the drafts, that's the scout's job, yet you do seem to knock Gorton often for his drafts, that is inconsistent. And the most ironic part of it to me is if either guy should have more responsibility for the draft, it's Drury not Gorton. Drury is the Pres and GM, he runs the whole show, which includes the scouts. Gorton was only the GM, Sather/JD were the Pres of the organization over Gorton.
Big picture though, the main point is what you wrote though, regardless of Drury, or Gorton, or whomever the Pres and GM are, the organizational philosophy is an issue. It doesn't mean Drury isn't horrific at his jobs, as you wrote stats tell the tale of how awful and inept he has been, as has Drury cycling through coaches every 2 years.
It's why I believe until Dolan hires the right guy the cycle will continue. I have used the Knicks as an example a few times, as they also play at MSG and are run by Dolan. They have been a joke for years since Riley/VG left, Dolan finally hired a decent guy to run the show in Rose, and they have been solid the past few seasons. Don't get me wrong, Rose has made some mistakes looking for a quick fix, and the Knicks are not winning a championship this year, or with the current team, but they are a good to very good team, with an outside punchers chance to make the NBA Finals, and a fair to reasonable chance to make it back to the ECF. Dolan needs to find the Rangers Rose, so at least they can be potentially in the mix to win.
BUT, with all that said, the Rangers have ONE Cup in 86 years, ONE. The Knicks have not won a championship since 1973. Between the Knicks and Rangers, I have seen ONE title in my lifetime. That is pathetic, and when it's that's bad there is something much bigger going on, it's not a one-off coincidence. Aside from poor ownership and not hiring the right people to run the organizations, I believe it's the quick fix/never build it the right way mindset/plan of NYC, MSG, and the NYK/NYR. Until that changes the Rangers and Knicks won't win, all they can hope for is to hire good people to run the organizations and at least be in the mix, Rose is that guy, and Drury is 10000000000000% not that guy.
Sadly, none of this is changing anytime soon for the Rangers or Knicks. It is not "rewarding" being a fan of either team.

The reason his production went down is because the fucking AHL has stupid rules and he had to play another year in juniors. He’s fucking bored as he should be. He’ll pick it up now because he knows he can play in New York next year. He’s a stud prospect. Also, his skating is more of a strength now if you read later scouting reports it was an issue of leg strength, being a bigger guy. Yes he’s a wing but Lafreniere is a fucking lazy dog with no leadership capabilities. They’re not the same kind of prospect. Lafreniere has world class skills as we saw in the Florida playoff series, but he just doesn’t give a shit and that’s something you can’t teach. They’ll probably go centers in the draft this and next year or if they trade Schneider or Trochek. We are blessed to get this prospect in a trade where we had no control.
