The bomb doesn't have to be big to achieve what they were wanting to achieve. What if they were simply hoping to cause panic and disturb our way of life? You don't have to kill a ton of people to accomplish that goal.

Yeah, I know they don't have to kill dozens to prove a point or cause panic. I just though that, combined with the timing was a little odd.

From Natalie Covate, Boston University News Service:

Panicha Imsomboon, a BU journalism graduate student, stood on the final stretch of the Boston Marathon track when she heard a bomb to her left.

“I turned to the first explosion just like everyone did,” she said. “I saw the smoke, probably as high as the buildings there. Just a few seconds after that, I heard another explosion.”

After the second bomb, the crowd began to leave. Imsomboon walked with the crowd for half a block.

“After I stopped walking, a kid, maybe three or four years old, started crying,” she said. “At first, his parents thought he was shocked. Then, they found out that one of his legs was injured.”

The parents were trying to call an ambulance when an ambulance drove past them.

“In the end, the mother carried her boy and ran to find the ambulance,” Imsomboon said.
Imsomboon continued moving with the crowd when a woman with a neck injury walked up beside her.

“She had to lay down on the sidewalk,” Imsomboon said. “The blood was coming out of her neck. A friend of hers tried to hold her hand. All of us, including me, tried to yell at the ambulance because at the time she looked really bad.”

Imsomboon handed the woman a scarf to serve as a bandage.

“I know my scarf might not be clean enough,” Imsomboon said, “but it was the best thing I could find.”

Imsomboon made it safely back to her apartment near Boston University. She has no injuries other than a buzzing in her ears. She was a member of a student team reporting the marathon. She was covering fashion at the finish line of the marathon.

The Globe has confirmed that an 8-year-old boy was one of the two victims who died in the explosion. This was reported earlier by NBC News and CNN.

if no one has claimed responsibility it likely means they will strike again before the authorities are able to pinpoint who they are.

So you're saying our government did it? :dunno:

Tells you your cellphone will be useless in any national emergency or unrest. PC as well.

Land-lines most likely would still work. Remember those?

He apologized.

So fucking what? I'm tired of those kind of apologies. And I read forum old to new, front to back. Please note I didn't react immediately to his first clueless post. Surely that counts for _some_ restraint. I will not be apologizing, sorry, it would be insincere. And think about it, if I get to your post "he apologized," then I've already read his apology.

Keeping things in perspective, 2 people also died in landslides this weekend.

No word yet from Wolf Blitzer whether the landslides were sophisticated or coordinated.

No worries; we don't care and we've already accepted wook's apology. You, on the other hand, can stay bitter and live a life of unforgiving misery.

Rep. Peter King is an idiot. And proves it by speaking. He's using this to further erode your rights to privacy, free speech, religious choice...

Primary elections coming up, good time to instill fear in the masses.

The thing that's truly disturbing is that innocent children get hurt or killed. I just get terrorism. It's okay to strike fear and go on some killing spree or blow something up because you want to be heard or have some sick fame?

What really gets me is how much publicity these people get. They become studied and sought after. Only stems more psychos seeking the same attention.

I don't think I could care less about this. It's the whole Pray for Boston, Thank God it wasn't worse attitude. Can't stand it.

I care much more about the tens of thousands of people starving to death every day.

Your always that guy....

Huh? You see a pattern? Weirdos only work in April? Come on -- out with it.

The WSJ is reporting that Boston Police has found 5(!) more undetonated devices.

Look around. See any phone booths? Home landlines are equally scarce. Pretty sure they can be jammed also.

Thanks for the updates SPD. I'm happy to see that people here who know people there are posting that their friends and others are well.

Same thing as telegraph lines. I bet no one could send telegraphs.
