Per Quick- due to the Williams trade, we will stand pat and make no trades.

Just heard it on the radio.

I guess that means a mega deal involving half our roster will occur within minutes.

This!

PA is screwin things up if this is true, he needs to GTF out of the way and let his GM work.

"Quick reiterating that it appears Cho and Allen were not on the same page during a lot of these talks and that may have hindered actually getting anything done. Lots of discussions but no deals it doesn't seem like."

You were three mins slow. :)

I don't know if not doing anything is actually breaking news.

So you are thinking Blazers could have put together a more attractive offer than Williams for Harris and Favors?

Andre/Pryzbilla/Batum for DWill works...not sure that's a better offer than NJ's though...maybe add a couple of picks and cash.

I cannot believe they gave away Deron! There's no way we could match that!

I wish Mediocre Man were the Blazers GM. He gets it. You have to make trades, and MM would make trades.

And he gives us this insight with just one scout. As a GM, he'd have lots! :)

It reminds me of the SNL skit about "Change Bank"; the bank that just made change.

"How do we make money? Simple: Volume."

It appears PA is wiser than the KP replacement that Larry Miller brought him.

Harris is just another aging, gimpy role player, they should have been going after Williams or someone of that quality.

Otherwise, BAKE IT!

PA needs to blow up and rebuild his front office with basketball people before he attempts to improve his team personnel.

This discussion reminds me now of a Shel Silverstein poem:

My dad gave me one dollar bill
'Cause I'm his smartest son,
And I swapped it for two shiny quarters
'Cause two is more than one!

And then I took the quarters
And traded them to Lou
For three dimes -- I guess he don't know
That three is more than two!

Just then, along came old blind Bates
And just 'cause he can't see
He gave me four nickels for my three dimes,
And four is more than three!

And I took the nickels to Hiram Coombs
Down at the seed-feed store,
And the fool gave me five pennies for them,
And five is more than four.

And then I went and showed my dad,
And he got red in the cheeks
And closed his eyes and shook his head--
Too proud of me to speak!

I think they could have put together a more attractive offer than Harris and Favors for Williams.

I doubt PA ever had interest in Harris.

What kind of package are you thinking of. The Blazers offers would have been expiring contracts, but the Jazz look to being more intent on acquiring pieces for the long haul. Both Harris and Favors are keepers, and don't forget the multiple first round picks the Nets were able to include in the package. Short of including LaMarcus in an offer, I can't think what the Blazers could have given that would have been more attractive.

If the Jazz felt that Williams was gone next off-season, they got a decent haul for him.

It will take a couple of years, but the Jazz will come out of this better than if they had waited for Williams to stiff them in 2012.

Meh. Who wants Williams anyway? It's not like he's young, or one of the best in the league at his position.

Yup,

They are being proactive, for once. Seems like Uncle Paul is not willing/ready to do so now. Hope it does not come to bite us in the rear in a year or two.

What? You mean not every team let's there expiring contracts just leave for nothing?

In all seriousness, Utah might be making another move because Jefferson, Milsap, Favors is a tad redundant.

Am I just down in the dumps about this trade deadline, or is Paul Allen starting to resemble Al Davis as an owner? he just seems to be thinking about things in the oddest way.

I'd love to see the Blazers get in on that, but given the treatment that we've given them in the recent past and the fact that they're in our division, I'm not holding my breath.

I have no effin clue. Maybe they see something in Roy's condition that we do not. Maybe they really wanted Harris but were trumped by a team willing to blow it all.

There are, at this point, reasons to be optimistic but also be worried about where this franchise is going. Time will tell, I suppose.

Yeah. My hope is that Utah front office people consider their jobs more tied to the results than to the PR fall-out of trading with Portland. I'd love to snag Millsap. If Portland moves Aldridge to center, Millsap would fit next to him quite well.

One thing to consider is that casual Utah fans (and casual fans pretty much always vastly outnumber the hardcore in any fanbase except the Green Bay Packers') probably have no idea about "toxic contracts" and Portland's role in what has unfolded. I'm sure hardcore Utah fans (the ones who would post on the Internet and all) hate Portland, but since they're a minority within the fanbase, Utah might be able to get away with trading with Portland.

Trust me on this as someone who lived in Utah for a decade. The JAZZ would never trade Deron Willimam to the Blazers in a MILLION fucking years. Not an option!

On anothr note......Holy Shit if that is true about him going to NJ. Major panick move by Utah.

Panic Move? I don't think so...Deron was gone when his contract was up, he knew it, they knew it and they were PROACTIVE...a concept that is foreign to the pathetic POR front office...

Favors...good young big man prospect...
Harris....good PG...no Deron, but a quality PG in his prime...

2 1st round picks - one a GS pick which likely will be in the lottery somewhere, b\c that team isn't going anywhere.....

The other one is NJs pick this year. Depending on how protected it is, the Jazz could have gotten two lottery picks.
