Bridge Collapses in Minnesota

The entire span of the 35W bridge collapsed about 6:05 p.m. where the freeway crosses the river near University Avenue. Traffic in both directions was affected.

Tons of concrete have collapsed and people are injured.Survivors are being carried up the riverbank. The entire span of the Interstate 35-West bridge collapsed shortly after six p.m. Central Time.

Some people are stranded on parts of the bridge that aren't completely in the water. A large truck is on fire at the collapse scene.


Much of the bridge is in the Mississippi River.

Cars are crushed under the debris and some who survived the fall are swimming in the water.

At least one vehicle, believed to be a semi- truck, is on fire.

Pieces of the bridge are on the parkway, which was filled with bikers and pedestrians.

Bumper to bumper traffic and road construction were slowing things down and all of the sudden the bridge collapsed said a man who was in that traffic around 6:45.


Medical personal from around the city is arriving on the scene, but there so many people injured. </div>

Yeah its on the news here now, apparentley 8 people are confirmed dead so far, and they're expecting alot more

About 20 have been taken to hospital injured.

Yo, that's some real scary ****. Imagine just being on the bridge and it collapses like that.

I cross bridges all the time and never even think about it ever collapsing randomly like that.

I know over here in South Ontario we cross the Ambassador Bridge to get to Detroit (btw, Windsor is more south of America than a lot of US States, so we're very influenced by the US) and for something like that to happen here would be just devastating to the economy.

Sorry for the KG joke, I couldn't pass it up. Minnesota has been through a lot lately.

BTW theres a baseball game going on right now and Minnesota is up 3-2 over Kansas City (thats a good thing), and Minny is home, so is that going to be a problem for the fans?

Hey, I was technically born in Windsor.

(I was living in Detroit at the time though... Grosse Pointe, to be specific... my parents were just over the bridge when my mom went into labor...)

It's a great city though. It's like Detroit, except for some reason when you cross that bridge you lose the homeless people, abandoned houses, and gangs.

I drive over that Tacoma Narrows bridge all the time and I think about that every single time. The Minnesota one is nuts though.

I was born in Iraq but I've lived in Windsor for like 12 years. You're right its a nice city, similar to Detroit, but I gotta say, I like the prices in Detroit better

Also, big additions to Casino Windsor are being done was we speak.

Talk about some crazy ****. It's things like this that make me glad I'm in Iowa, where bridges are at a minimum.

I've been seeing pictures of this everywhere recently. It was on local news and it was even on ESPN for the love of god.

You've got two bridges to worry about now, since the new one is up too. I think about the Ship Canal bridge and how old and out dated I-5 is.

But still for something that big to collapse like that...it's pretty wild. My condolences to the victims' families. Hope you Minneapolis residents here on JBB are all OK.

At first they thought it was terrorist related. That's insane. I saw the clip of the video and what it looks like now. I think a lot of people are dead.

Damn this is crazy. My parents saw it happen and were like 100 feet away and my brother lives less than a block away from the other side. I have only heard 4 dead and 30 missing from the local stuff this morning. An entire school bus full of 60 kids were on the bridge and everyone survived. This stuff is amazing. So many more people should have died but i guess the river is really low right now and that helped out. I can't believe this.

Update, CNN just reported 4 dead, 79 injured and 20-30 missing which I think means dead because they fell into the mississippi...
