Wow, there's a lot of bitterness in this thread. GO came here a young, optimistic, fun-loving kid and after injury after injury his body wouldn't allow him to live up to the massive expectations we had for him. So what if he went out at night? Did his knees explode because he had a few drinks? Rehab is hard, boring and lonely. You're in a strange town and you're not really a part of the organization that brought you out here. Any of us would have done the same thing.
His body can't handle the wear and tear of NBA basketball. Don't blame GO. By all accounts, he's a good guy. I wish he and Brandon had stayed healthy, but you can't always get what you want.
I wish him nothing but the best.
Agreed. I've never felt any bitterness towards Oden himself. His body couldn't hold up; there's no way he preferred this state of affairs, where he ended up providing Portland with nothing. Just bad luck all around.
If he can carve out a later-career role as a useful player, like Ilgauskas, I'd be happy for him.
