Bring Back Oden!!!

Wow, there's a lot of bitterness in this thread. GO came here a young, optimistic, fun-loving kid and after injury after injury his body wouldn't allow him to live up to the massive expectations we had for him. So what if he went out at night? Did his knees explode because he had a few drinks? Rehab is hard, boring and lonely. You're in a strange town and you're not really a part of the organization that brought you out here. Any of us would have done the same thing.

His body can't handle the wear and tear of NBA basketball. Don't blame GO. By all accounts, he's a good guy. I wish he and Brandon had stayed healthy, but you can't always get what you want.

I wish him nothing but the best.

Agreed. I've never felt any bitterness towards Oden himself. His body couldn't hold up; there's no way he preferred this state of affairs, where he ended up providing Portland with nothing. Just bad luck all around.

If he can carve out a later-career role as a useful player, like Ilgauskas, I'd be happy for him.

Many fans get into sports to vent their aggression. Nice guys like Oden receive some of that,

Fuck oden. He shit on our city when he left.

This.

There is also the small matter that the injuries that led to the 2nd and 3rd MF surgery did NOT occur playing basketball. Add that fact to his partying...and I seriously question what REALLY happened. People would like to believe Oden was just an innocent bystander to his own life. I am too cynical to buy it.

Why does this thread make me feel like I'm living Groundhog Day? It's amazing how people can hold grudges against someone for having a fragile body.

I'm offering to rebuild him with body parts of other players.

So you're saying the movie this SHOULD remind me of is neglected classic (that I saw in a preview screening in LA) Body Parts?

This thread makes me wonder about of Roy & Oden would have remained healthy and along with LA, Batum and Matthews what might have been.

I wonder if LaMarcus would've been an all-star? The moment Roy left and Aldridge was allowed to be the focal point his game and role with the team went to another level. The trio with LMA inside and Batum/Wes bombing three's has been exceptional. It really started the next few days and weeks after Roy was hurt for good.

Roy had a stretch for a year and a half where he was a top7 player in this league. When the court was spread with a stretch 4 and he could drive inside it felt like the team was unstoppable at the end of games. It seems like so long ago; but Roy is only now beginning the final season of his Blazers contract.

Sadly, I think he's done. What a tragedy. Hopefully he saved his money.

Seriously, his knees probably cost him half a billion dollars. He had both the game and the personality to be the new Shaq.

That seriously is a stretch.. Shaq is funny as hell. Oden and Shaq should never be mentioned in the same sentence.

They can totally be mentioned in the same sentence! Are you crazy?

For example: Oden is never going to be Shaq, ever.

See?

I guess I'm old enough to remember GO before his first injury.

Yes I'm quoting myself...

I hope hot lava flows out of both of Greg Oden's knees and he never plays again. Straight up... At least Brandon and Lamarcus Re-Upped with us...
IMHO Greg owes us big... Not only did he become an alcoholic instead of staying strong (which is akin to quitting on us IMO), he makes
ignorant statements about Black men with money not liking my town. He's an idiot for saying that and he doesn't speak for all of us black folk.
Saying ignorance like that hurts our FA possibilities too therefore perpetuating more ignorance. Besides he looked like he was having loads of fun drinking
and straddling white girls in the Downtown Clubs didn't he? Instead of posting dick picks online and texting them to 6'10" strippers,
he should have been keeping his weight down and maybe his fucking knees wouldn't explode when he jumps...
FUCK Greg. Yes I said it....

Yeah, Shaq is a way better actor than Oden and we all know that's not saying much. ;)

It's easier to hate a guy if you imagine he's a terrible, evil human being rather than just possessed of a body that broke down.

He became an alcoholic and QUIT on us.

Fuck him....

Who's Oden?! I seem to recall folklore of this great beast that had a great tri-pod to smite his foes.

According to the legend, he like Achilles, had a weak spot on his body. Oden's weakness was in his knees, which exploded after a battle with lowly peasants.

He began to sulk and drink large amounts of wine, then used his reputation to rip off local cities for their money.

Today, when children are acting like a baby, they refer to them as "Don't be an Oden!"

I nominate this for post of the year.

Oden had a great personality, he played the piano at the ESPYs. If he was able to be an nba starter we would judge his personality totally differently

Paul George's injury is the reason why I wouldn't want Oden back. Too much of a chance of going through all of that again.
