That option might be open to some, but 150-200k jobs aren’t exactly easy to come by for normal people.
The WNBA is the top 0.02% of their profession just in this country. Not exactly easy... And at 0-2 years you're only making like $60k

Those jobs you only have to be in the top 10% to make $150-$200k

3 months? The games are the fun part. You don't really think they only work 3 months out of the year do you?

The WNBA season is 3 months. They are free to earn additional money in other leagues in the offseason.

I'm just going to throw this out there.... who has a daughter and who doesn't?
Who is a woman and who isn't?
Most male college football and basketball programs lose money. Only big name schools are money makers.
And Griner is still a hostage. A Black gender non-conforming married lesbian in a country that brags about persecuting people like her.

personally I think it's wrong to arrest anyone for using or having cannabis products on their person and wrong to persecute people for sexual identity or race but let's be objective here....Pussy Riot was jailed for making rock and roll, where women and men and were jailed for protesting Putin..Putin's political rivals are jailed for running against him....non were black and who knows how many were hetero or not...the issue here is whether Grimes was dumb enough to break the law or whether she's been set up ..Elton John performed there many times without being arrested at the airport..not going to make that assumption. We had just taken a lot of Putin's money away just before this happened so there is a good chance it's political but also a chance she just broke their law and got caught. As it is I hope they let her go and the only thing they've done if it's political is scare off any foreign athletes from accepting contracts there.

This has absolutely nothing to do with the question I asked, so I am legitimately confused.

People questioned value of WNBA because they don't always draw crowds but neither do men's sports.
And none of us know if Griner is guilty. They also frame people.

I think it's noble to want to pay the women as much as the men, but the reality is that their product is not as popular as the mens. Salaries come from revenue so where does this money come from? Does the NBA have an obligation to subsidize the WNBA salaries?

According to female players who have gone overseas that stuff happens far more often than here.

link?

Who said this?

Griner doesn't seem to think the US is that safe to begin with.

“Yeah, we’re here to play basketball. But basketball doesn’t mean anything in a world where we can’t just live. We can’t wake up and do whatever we want to do. Go for a run, go to the store to buy some candy, drive your car without the fear of being wrongfully pulled over."

Nobody suggested paying them as much as the men. Just paying them more than a garbage man. Pay them as though they are among the best in the world at what they do.

I suggested the NBA players pay enough toward the WNBA to ensure the average WNBA player would make about 30% as much per game as an NBA player.

Which would give them about 10% of the annual salary of an NBA player.

Are you talking about specific teams in the NFL/NBA/MLB/etc not drawing crowds or are you talking about other men's sports?

Yeah, I'm sure she totally prefers Russia.

Watch the ESPN 30 for 30 Dream On. They touch on it in part 1 at about 16:30 seconds in. They specifically said players talked about physically abusive coaches, sexually abusive coaches, racism, etc...

But that kind of thing doesn't make the news over there either. Imagine if a coach slapped a player in the WNBA? Here, that's a big problem. Elsewhere, it's not news... It's just one example, but Sheryl Swoopes hated it in Italy. She chose to come back here and work in a bank instead.

Griner's there, isn't she? She only hates it because she got arrested for having illegal drugs in a country where they are not allowed. Didn't seem to have a problem with it before that. Every place sucks if you get arrested there.

And you'd have to pay me to watch a 30 for 30 on the WNBA.

No, specifically men's college football and basketball. Most lose money.

But we're not really talking about college. This is specifically about the pay gap between men's league pro athletes and women's league pro athletes.

And what a disgrace it is that our women's professional athletes are paid more in other countries. They could literally walk off the court (with their decades of skills they have worked hard to achieve) and make more money in hundreds of other fields with no real specialized knowledge.

And how we refuse to do anything about that, just because...

But it's cool for women to have to put themselves in harms way to make a respectable living doing what they love. That's probably the way it should be I guess...

Where is the added income coming from? Raising ticket prices enough so you can pay them all more? The league is already loosing money every year. They average 2607 people in attendance per game as a league. Raise the tickets enough to pay them more and that number will go down. What is your solution to raise revenue for the WNBA enough that they can pay them more?

I discussed that above. One solution would be A 5-10% fee on nba players salaries. Or even a % of NBA revenue.

NBA teams lose money before revenue sharing all the time.

Why in the world would the NBA Players association agree to a 5-10% fee on their salaries? Why would the league subsidize another league even more then they already are doing? Are they going to start subside Track athletes? They work very hard and are at the top of their profession have to go over seas to make income also.

If a men's track league becomes a billion dollar business then yeah... Supporting a women's division with 10% of profits would be a good thing.

Professional sports teams lose money all the time. Heck, Paul Allen lost money on the Blazers for years. Most NBA owners did. Except Donald Sterling.

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id...arly-half-nba-lost-money-last-season-now-what

Talking about specific teams losing money is a whole other conversation. Success can ebb and flow, but the league as a whole is extremely profitable. Paul Allen bought the Blazers for $70 million. The team is worth $2-3 billion dollars now. How much is a WNBA team worth?
