Any of you guys break a bone before? Had a string of bad luck in my family lately. The wife broke a bone in her foot (same one as CJ and Martell) playing indoor soccer in January. We thought that was bad enough, but last week my father in law fell off his garage roof and broke 5 ribs, 5 vertebrae and fractured his sternum.

Anybody have experience with this type of injury? What is the recovery time? He had surgery for all of that on Thursday.

I don't know why I'm wasting my time here........ people don't ever get hurt playing video games or D&D!

I broke my leg twice. It took about 3 months to heal

Go Blazers!

Those broken ribs are a bitch! It takes another month every time you cough.

ive broken a few ribs, broken my hands a few times, thats about it. nothing even close to comparing to your in law, best of luck to him, that sounds like a violent fall he took

HCP, my son is a sports physical therapy major, I'll ask him and try to get back to you with an informed answer when he calls later. I wish your family a quick recovery. I know diet has a lot to do with recovery time so limit salt and sugar intake and make sure they get plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables in the diet. If necessary, calcium supplements will promote bone repair as well. For a foot break, be sure to keep weight off it but rotate it regularly to insure it doesn't stiffen up. I also recommend a mixture of drinkable aloe vera juice, raw apple cider vinegar and there's a sea algae you can mix in that is calcium rich and has live enzymes that help repair breaks. These you can buy at most stores that supply diet supplements.Avoid alcohol at all costs and substitute salmon or seafood for red meats. Uric acid in red meat is not good for the blood cells that flush breaks and help them heal.

^^^^ I would think pure cherry juice would be good, I drink it and helps with my gout. Uric acid...

Boy you got that right!! Avoid an excess of that Uric acid!!! Man Howdy! That can stuff a foot up with Gout that would make broken bones feel like child's play in comparison.
Then you have the stones, that would be Kidney stones made out of pure stoned up Uric acid.

When you have those, you know pain like no other can come close. White lip, lip curling pain
just from eating too much meat, liver, shell fish, clams. It's enough to make a man like oats.

I have a foot that I couldn't put a shoe on last week. Worked in a bodyshop wearing a sandal on my left foot. I have an immense tolerance for pain so I know some people would die from it. Went to the doc yesterday and he asked me why I didn't come in last week.

Sorry, gout. Had a staycation and went to the bacchanal buffet at caesars twice and got drunk on margaritas every day for a week. Had a terrible gout flare and my toe joint looked like it got bitten by a scorpion or something. It was shiny and purple and huge. I wear 15 wide shoes and couldn't even get my foot in one. I ate so much red meat and drank so much my uric acid must have been off the charts.

I had almost lost 100 lbs in the last two years and hadn't had a flare until my vacation was over. Fucking sucked.

Man, gout sucks. Let me know if you have any leftover painkillers, lol...

I had a gout flare up recently. First one in 2 years. It was after the holidays when I went crazy with some seafood for about 2 weeks. Really sucks. I have a trigger food of scallops.

There you go, keep track of what does it. The more you let it go, ignore it the worst it becomes.
I mean the easier to trigger.

Yeah, seafood in general seems to do it, so I try to limit it. I kind of assumed since through diet managment that I reduced the frequencies of my attacks, that I could go buckwild. Oops.

This^^^^^^^^^well, not the seafood but the wild part

Gout is triggered by shellfish but this is a broken bone, "healing" question. By no means eat shellfish if you're suffering from gout. Seafood is great for repairing bone material if you are not suffering from gout

I've broken my right wrist (13 years old goofing off) and cracked my sternum and 2 ribs (32 years old trying to get air wakeboarding). Pain pills...

Its actually the shells of the seafood that is good for that (the chondrotin).

I've broken and dislocated my left forearm twice, a bunch of my ribs, my ankle and collarbone.

I broke my ear drums listening to Nickleback highlight package during the Blazers game a couple months back.

^Well done. I'd rep, but I don't give rep.

Only thing I've broken was my nose playing basketball.

I fell on my hand playing hoops in Jr. High. had to wear a cast.
