BRoy interview coming up live (MERGED)

I'm pretty pissed off again about it that we're pinching pennies with our franchise All-NBA player. And please.. spare me the "be patient", "the team knows what they're doing", "there's nothing to be worried about" talk.. Something just isn't right about this whole thing, and it's gotta be from the higher-ups

My thoughts exactly, and especially after giving Turkoglu a 5-year offer. If you want to negotiate with Roy, start at 5 years but at a less-than-max deal. To short him a year at the onset baffles me. I hope Roy's next team treats him better.

Roy still not signed....?????

I guess no one else thinks this is a big deal. He should of been signed the days ago. He was bye far the best pick in that draft and Toronto already gave Andrea Bargnani a five year deal. This is a slap in the face if you ask me. You think the Heat would hesitate 1 second to throw the max at Wade? do you think the Cavs would hesitate to throw the max at prince James? Those guys would have max years and money the second it was available to them. Everyday the blazers let this go bye is a disaster. There's nothing to negotiate here.

Re: Roy still not signed....?????

Gee, thanks for bringing this up. Probably no other threads on this topic.

It's a very big deal. A much bigger deal than page after page of Brandon Bass this, Paul Millsap that, or Kirk Hinrich over and over.

Without Roy, none of this matters. Now he's going to put out a statement next week and reiterates how "frustrated" he is in a text to Brian Wheeler.

Un-fucking-believable the way this organization is treating Roy. Makes me sick to my stomach.

He can't sign one until next year anyways.

He can half-ass play next year, protect himself, and then go play for the Knicks. Or, he can demand a trade since the team obviously doesn't see him worthy of more than a 4 year deal.

As I stew a little bit more, let me remind that PA gave this fucknut a max deal!

See now you have insulted Brandon more than the Blazers.

If Brandon Roy is not a Blazer after next season, I am 100% serious when I say it will be about 10 years before I ever EVEN watch a Blazer game again... and I am a diehard blazers fan.

I'll admit that I've been protective of the Blazers, Pritchard, and their inactivity. But after this? I don't see how anyone can justify this treatment of Roy. The explanations I've seen in this thread are laughable from an asset standpoint, and I just can't get over Hedo's treatment by the organization versus that of Roy. It's extremely disappointment and very bewildering.

Yes, my words on the internet matter. I'm sure Roy will be texting Wheeler about his upcoming statement answering my post.

You guys are all missing the point.

Jason Quick is at fault. Fuck Jason Quick, that fucking liar!

Fuck me. I really hope the statement isn't that he signed a QO.

There is no qualifying offer here. The Blazers can exercise their option (if they have not already) for Brandon's fourth year.

Next summer he would become a free agent and would be a restricted one if Portland extended him a qualifying offer. If he accepted that, then the NEXT summer (2011, after the CBA expires) he would be come an unrestricted free agent.

Ed O.

Do any of you have any idea of how much we would have to pay him if he went to be a unrestricted free agent as compared to a contract extension? Are you thinking here? The year he would be available would be the year everybody is trying to have money free to make runs at big players. This is playing with fire. If you play with fire your going to get burned, even if you organization is named the Trailblazers. Quit fucking around.

LOL

Gotta give Quick his due on this one. This is a very big deal, and anybody who actually listens to that Roy interview knows it's a big deal.

Oops. Thanks for the clarification.

Funny how everyone bashed the fuck out of Quick, and then we find out there actually IS substance to his story.

Just like everyone scoffed at the Rudy story, and there was truth behind that too.

In Pritch We Trust.

come on, am I the only one here saying that still? Pritch we trust!

This doesn't exactly scream creating a "winning culture" that the franchise has talked about the past few years either.

I seriously have no idea how you could top the ineptitude our management has displayed so far this offseason even if you tried. Max years, max money, sign the fucking thing. What's to negotiate? Brandon obviously has proven he's a top player, he's a great guy in the community, and he WANTS TO BE HERE. We're always complaining about not being able to attract guys to Portland, and this is a top 5 player in the league, who loves this city, loves this team and loves the fans, and we have the richest owner in professional sports, and we're quibbling over the fifth year on a max contract?

What the fuck?

This contract should have been drawn up months ago, with the only blank being the line where Brandon had to sign.

Or, he could try and force a trade prior to that so he can actually go somewhere that will pay him a 5 year deal starting in 2010-11, which is what any agent with a brain would do. Why have your All-Star playing on a rookie deal and a QO for the next two years with no guarantee for the future?

In pritch we trust. come on, say it. just ignore everything else, in pritch we trust!

obviously you don't know the intricacies of the cap rules of the NBA. Pritch is a mastermind.

There is a reason these negotiaons are at this point...find me an example otherwise!!

The "frustrated and Dissappointed" text message kinda ruined my lunch hour.

I don't understand.

He's not going anywhere unless the Blazers want him to for TWO MORE seasons.

I doubt that any team is already planning for the summer of 2011, and it's a huge crapshoot what the next CBA will look like.

The team IS playing with fire in the sense that it's a calculated risk to potentially piss him off... but I don't see evidence that teams will have a ton of free space in two summers to give him a max-level deal. Especially with the salary cap shrinking, most teams will be right up against the cap in 2011.

Look at the Lakers, for example. Even though they only have three players on the books (Bynum, Walton, and Artest) they will be over halfway to the salary cap. Throw on Kobe's salary and mimimum salary players and they're going to be near $50m... which is where the cap may well be.

Ed O.

So, can someone provide me the money quote from Roy that elevates this to a "Roy quite likely to do what he can to escape this cheap team" situation?

I didn't listen to the interview, but the posted recaps seemed pretty non-noteworthy.
