When you're argument comes down to one word and one word only there is no double standard. B.E.T. targets a specific audience. El Rey just started up this past year, its target audience are Hispanic people who don't speak Spanish. "El Rey (Spanish for The King) is an English language American television channel targeting Latino audiences." It's a network for people like HCP. Is that racist? Is it okay because they don't call it the Latinos who only speak English Entertainment Network? No, they are targeting a specific audience. Just like B.E.T. is. Just like a lot of existing networks are targeting white audiences. You keep saying there is a double standard but there isn't.

Then you go ahead and make a channel specifically called "white entertainment television". See how that goes for you bud.

This nation is so reverse-racist and no, even if we get a future white President that, alone, will not make us a post-reverse-racism society. Reverse-racism is deeply embedded and institutionalized. That said, if we ever get a white President, that will be a good step in showing that people are slowly overcoming their reverse-racism prejudices.

When white programing dominates the major networks there is no need for white entertainment television. What programming would you want to see being aired on a W.E.T. that isn't currently being aired? This double standard you keep talking about would only exist if the major networks only showed black programming and there was little to no entertainment for white people. If that were to happen then you would have a legitimate complaint that there is a double standard, that there isn't a channel called White Entertainment Television.

Ok, so why is it that people who are black would want to only watch shows with black actors? Isn't that a bit racist? Do the race of the actors attract or repel you from a show? Having a BET channel is like saying, "We're going to have a segregated channel with no other races on it"

I know there is a cultural thing etc. But on the other hand, are the black shows just going to promote sterotypes, have people speaking "ebonics". That sort of thing just promotes racial division in my view.

The only people truly caring about this are white people because they don't have a network that is clearly labeled for white people. It may be a bit racist to want to see programming that reflects your race/culture but, especially when media is dominated by shows that doesn't, it's not a particularly dangerous form of racism. There are many types of racism, inherent in all of us; for example, it's been shown that people tend to manifest more positive reaction when they see images of people of their own ethnicity. Some amount of tribalism is innate.

When people talk about racism being "bad," they're generally talking about harmful forms of racism like prejudice or a (conscious or subconscious) desire to treat people of other ethnicities differently.

I didn't think Levenson was a racist based on this, and I find it hard to believe that he'd have been drummed out of the NBA for that e-mail. It causes me to wonder if he wanted out of owning an NBA team for other reasons and decided to fall on his sword and make what was a somewhat tone deaf e-mail almost a virtue by how "seriously" he took it.

I agree with Abdul-Jabbar's reaction, including this: "Sure, there are a few assumptions he makes that make me cringe a little." Levenson's "crime" is probably, as I said, writing about racial demographics in a somewhat tone deaf manner, rather than being a racist.

1. B.E.T. is not black only. There is nothing preventing you from watching it.

2. What part of the television market is not being covered for white audiences? Whites are very well represented in television programing.

If you are really in the need of all white programming CBS seems to have it covered tonight with episodes of The Big Bang Theory, Mom, Two & a Half Men and Under The Dome. I believe that Under The Dome does have one black cast member but the rest of the shows are all white!
