Brushes with Blazers

Maurice Lucas lives across the street from me. I went to elementary, middle, and high school with his sons.

When I was about 11, my parents and I were driving somewhere, and while looking out the window I saw this black guy in a convertible in the lane next to us and he looked sooo familiar. He pulled ahead of us and I saw the license plates read JK 25 and I just completely flipped out over realizing it was Jerome Kersey.

Saw Martell Webster at EBX in Washington Square a few months ago, the day he got the boot off his foot. He bought a Wii.

I think I saw Larry Miller at Washington Square a few days before Summer League this year too.

I don't have any real meaningful Blazer sightings. :(

Actually last year I saw ALL of the Blazers at the SAME TIME playing a basketball game- multiple times even!! :p

-Sat across from Derek Anderson at the West Linn Shari's, saw him there multiple times in the parking lot
-Was in line behind Shawn Kemp at the 7-11 on McGloughlin Blvd, he was buying condoms
-Caddied for PJ Carlismo, Clyde Drexler, and Rick Carlyle at Waverly CC
-Delivered paint to Z-Bo West Linn house before he moved in
-Sat next to Geoff Petrie at a Blazer game about 12 years ago
-Seen Jerome Kersey multiple times at blazer games, usually near the buffet in the club level

Kemp obviously lost them on the way out the store!

Forgot that I shook hands with Zach on court before a game and he gave me a signed tee for one of those tee exchanges they have for STHs. He had the tiniest sig!

During the halftime of one game I was talking with Don/blazerbeliever, he was in front of where I was sitting and he said you know who that is pointing behind me. I looked back and didn't recognize him at first, but it was Kersey. He was standing in the entry to the handicap section I was at watching some motown group sing durning halftime. I ask if he'd take a pic with me and he was nice enough to say yes. I'll post it later if I find it.

Went to a movie with Raef in Sac-Town.

-as a kid my best friend was a member at the Jewish Community Center. On separate occasions we sat under the hoop as Jim Paxson and Drazen Petrovic worked out with ballboys seemingly never missing.
-went bonkers when Billy Ray Bates drove up beside our car at a stoplight in in Beaverton. He smiled and waved.
-two separate sitings at Black Butte Ranch playing tennis next to former Beaver Steve Johnson and being in a foursome following a group with Terry Porter in it. Before teeing off Terry was milling around and I was trying not to stare too much after saying "hello" My 5'10 dad walked up behind him and straightened up to his full height back to back with TP... Terry wasn't close to his listed 6'3
-was shooting around in an empty Catlain Gable gym when Kenny Carr and his young son walked in. After a while I introduced myself and told his son about seeing his dad play at NC State when I was his age. Kenny beamed as I relayed what a stud he was.
-ate breakfast next to Kiki in Santa Monica
-exchanged an email with John Nash about Nedzad ;)

No Blazer in their right mind would be seen down here.

Going back a few years, but saw Bill Walton carrying his infant son around at the HS boys state tournament. Might have been the title year when the team was on a road trip and he was hurt. Or maybe the year before, as I seem to remember him having long hair and a Pony tail. His future teamate was playing in the tournament, Danny Ainge.

Also talked to Jim Paxson at a Jimmy Buffet Concert when he was a blazer. Mike Schuler was the new coach and Paxson liked him. Also saw Paxson at a David Bowie concert at the Tacoma Dome.

Also...Duck in his car, sitting at a light 15 years ago. Jermaine O'neal at Suncoast records in Lloyd Center. Kiki Vandeweghe and Duck at the River place athletic club back in the day.

I nearly saw Bill Walton play an exhibition with the Celtics. He had a fender bender and bent his ankle and was a no show. Saw Havlechek and a few others along with the old timer Blazers. Hello everybody, welcome me from over a O-live where the LA trolls roam free. I luv chasing me some flaker fool trollmeat. 'You got to make your free throws'. respectBB

I saw Rudy and Sergio at the Woodburn Outlet Malls. They were thrilled when my friends and I actually recognized them and talked to them (esp. since we all knew Spanish).

Last year I was in this fundraising Golf Tournament thing, the Schonz was in the group in front of me and Kersey was in the group behind me.

- Saw Jerome Kersey coming out of Washington Squre Mall

- Bussed Antonio Harvey's table when I used to work at a restaurant... got to serve him chips and salsa!

- Got to get up close to Kersey (again) and Clyde at the Quarterback Golf Challenge here in Portland.

- Sat next to Mike Dunleavy at Reynolds High School when when Jr. played for Jesuit.

- Saw James Jones at the Albertsons in Lake Oswego.

In all these instances, I never wanted to say hi. I never wanted to be a bother to them. Did you guys have positive experiences with Blazers? Aside from the 'Sheed instances.

I forgot about Tone, i helped him and his wife out numerous times at the Miller Paint in Tualatin. He was always grumpy, but i was impressed that he was doing the painting and not a pro.

Jerome Kersey and Monte Williams both go to my church in Tualatin. I have seen Jerome twice and Monty almost every weekend.

I had dinner at Sweet Tomatoes in Tigard last year while Joel sat a few tables away.

Had drinks with Ruben Patterson in OKC.

There was one time when I was right next to Batum on I-5. I started waving and he just kind of looked back confused. It was the beginning of the 08-09 year so maybe he didn't know how popular he was becoming.

When pulling out of the Taco Bell in Tualatin, Travis Outlaw was in the car ahead of me.

I saw Travis' brother one time at the Shell in Tualatin. He is the one with the green lowrider Chevy or whatever.

Everytime I see Brandon's red Escalade, the windows are way too tinted so you can never really wave or anything.

-- made a hook shot over Terry Porter at a basketball camp when I was in 7th or 8th grade. He claimed to the surprised crowd of campers that a "big guy woulda taken care of that" in a real game.

-- saw Brandon Roy walking around Belltown with his posse a couple of years ago really late at night. Didn't talk to him or anything, and it was unremarkable other than that it was Brandon Roy.

Ed O.

People speak spanish in woodburn? :devilwink:

played Cliff Robinson at Arch Rivals at Wunderland (washington square) his rookie year. he was good.

played Gary Trent at "Give and Go" basketball game at wunderland (L.O.) his rookie year.

Was doing a canned food drive in my friend's neighborhood, Rod Strickland answered the door and gave us some cans. Nice guy.. this dude also lived across from Alla Abdelnabby.

Probably the best...walked into the downtown Safeway and who do I see by the carts? LaMarcus..a few minutes later, out comes BRoy, Blake and James Jones. I immediately asked the store manager how long they would be there (seemed like a guest app. and not them buying groceries)..took off for home w/ my wife, only a 10 min walk, and got our Roy and LA jerseys and a hat for them to sign for Webster's Dictionary. I guess Jones and Blake went over to the MLK Safeway. All the guys were there for some breakfast food drive so we bought a few boxes of cereal and got mad autographs and a picture too..no waiting at all either..was pretty surreal at the time. Here is a photo of it:

fall of 07 saw Jamaal Magloire in borders downtown when the Nets were in town..since I don't get out to the burbs, the random encounters don'thappen very frequent

Met KP and Mercy at the season ticket holder party this year

Met Travis at a meet n greet after a game in the 07-08 season..super nice. He became my fv player after meeting him.

As a kid..
Waiting for hours in line at the Heritage Mall in Albany to get a card signed by Clyde. He shook my hand and said "Hey there big guy" Made my day as an 8 year old
Met Pack and Mercy for autographs in Salem..nothing too memorable about those two occurrences that I can remember.

Paul Allen was at the table next to me for lunch here in LA last year or so. he had a smoking hot brunette with him.

Travis Outlaw was in vegas this weekend, i was looking for him. hah.

I have another one to add actually. One of my neighbors had leukemia when I was younger and her family became good friends with Brian Grant through Doernbechers. So I did meet some of the Blazers teams that Grant was on.

Saw Brandon Roy again today. I thought he was supposed to be out of town?

I ran into LaMarcus at California Pizza Kitchen last year....nothing much to say there. He just kind of looked like he was in the mood to be alone and was probably waiting for someone. Met Channing Frye at the Goodfoot on SE Stark though...and that was a fun night. He came in with a friend and about 4 beautiful girls. It was Soul Night, and since I am not a bigtime dancer, I was at the bar trying to get a drink to help lubricate my brain into becoming (or at least thinking that I am) a bigtime dancer. There was a group of about 6 people (Channing's crew) in front of me, taking their time with the bartender. Channing turned around and said, "Why don't you just go ahead and order in front of us. This'll take a while.". Got my drank, and then danced all night with Channing and some hot chicks. He was drinking Miller High Life, by the way.....Seriously?

Aside from that, Harry Glickman's wife comes into my work quite a bit. I usually give her really good service and make her feel comfortable and do not mention anything about it. She is ooooold.
