You guys argue about the strangest shit.

Who cares why Denny's favorite Hooters closed. Instead of arguing with him over it why not just show some sympathy?

According to the Cassidy Turley study, the surge helped offset 377,971 square feet of negative retail absorption in the first six months of the year. As a result, San Diego County recorded 222,844 square feet of positive retail activity in 2013 – a pace that still exceeds the annual average of 211,700 square feet in the post-recession years of 2010 through 2012.

I don't have a dog in this fight but CassidyTurley.com using Cassidy Turley as a source is rather hilarious. "CNN asked CNN which is the best cable news network and they said hands down it's CNN."

Dude, it's a press release. They discuss the results of the study.

sheesh

Now I do have a dog in this fight.

Look, the point is that San Diego is having troubles with the small retailers staying in business and the city council just made it harder for them to succeed.

Much to barfo's distress, the facts aren't so good for his wrong side of the argument again.

The voluminous literature on minimum wages offers little consensus on the extent to which a wage floor impacts employment. For both theoretical and econometric reasons, we argue that the effect of the minimum wage should be more apparent in new employment growth than in employment levels. In addition, we conduct a simulation showing that the common practice of including state-specific time trends will attenuate the measured effects of the minimum wage on employment if the true effect is in fact on the rate of job growth. Using three separate state panels of administrative employment data, we find that the minimum wage reduces net job growth, primarily through its effect on job creation by expanding establishments. These effects are most pronounced for younger workers and in industries with a higher proportion of low-wage workers.

I'm against anything that closes Hooters and puts well endowed women out of work.

Have there been any protests? Preferably with wet t-shirts?

Not just hooters. Moondoggies (a dog's favorite place, no doubt).

And Staples and quite a few other places that were here for a decade+ and survived the Pelosi/Reid economic crash.

Huh? They're a brokerage firm. Brokerage firms use numbers generated by their research department or from a service like CoStar.

Why don't you just stay out of this. You're a well known Hooter hater.

I think we should raise the minimum wage to $25.00/hour. That way, everyone would have a Living Wage.

I think we should abolish the minimum wage so we can start relying on American slave labor again instead of Chinese slave labor.

Surely if the minimum wage creates jobs and demand is inelastic, raise it to $100/hr.

One in 50 hourly workers make minimum wage, the rest make more than that.

The only slaves are taxpayers.

Im not sure what your point is then. 1 in 50 is no big deal? So whats the problem? Let them eat cake, I mean really eat it because they can afford it now.

One day I hope you become a business owner.

Property Management and Food services.

Food services? Like a cafeteria, Restaurant?

Property management... Ahhh of course! There are no need for worrying about minimum wage, since most require employees that make more than that.

But are you still owning businesses? When did you stop? What made you stop?

See if you stopped 3-5 years ago, you did so outside the economic valley. Life must be good for you.

That high school kids working summer jobs don't need the benefit at the cost of putting businesses out of business.

Let them eat cake, but let their parents buy it.

I like how you try to discredit my whole point of view by making assumptions about me and trying to qualify my knowledge base. This thread is about minimum wage not Donkiez personal businesses successes and failures. In all instances cheaper labor would have been a benefit to me, so what?

I agree with you here, but most minimum wage jobs are not held by teenagers anymore. Numbers I saw was 76% are adults. I think a concession could be made for under 18 year old workers to make less but other regulation would need to be added with it.

So what? Well it's really quite simple. Small businesses account for a large chunk of jobs in the United States. And as you admitted, it would have been much easier.

And since unemployment rate is climbing at a national average of 6.2%, it would be safe to say that adding more hardship to a type of business that generates a large portion of jobs is clearly not the answer.

As for "life of donkiez"... Nah it's getting a measure of where you stand. If you are an employee now but a business owner years ago; I can get a grasp on how you are "for the working man".

I think it's 88% are over 20. I think the average age is 35

I havent really seen any good examples of the business you mention that are being hardshiped. So far we have Dennys Maritime Shop and MacDonalds/walmart/burger king/etc. What else can we add to the list? Give me some good examples of quality jobs that might be effected and I might change my mind.

Can we please get back to talking about Hooters.

What you'll end up with is fewer workers with jobs.

The earned income tax credit actually directly addresses those who need help. The minimum wage is a direct intrusion in commerce and is tilting at windmills.

The easy one is food services. Resturant owners pay min wage so they can have good prices. The server makes tips, which gives them incentive to work for minimum wage. Once the Resturant owners have to pay higher wage, they have a large hardship to keep the doors open.
