Busts and Gems

IMHO, a team expects a top 11 pick to be good. Not necessarily hall of fame good or even all star good, but at least capable of being a 1-7 guy in the NBA.

So I think "gem" is misplaced. I like to use the word gem for the surprises, the late first round and the second round picks, or even undrafted players, who become solid NBA players or even stars. The 90s Blazers had loads: Terry Porter, Jerome Kersey, Kevin Duckworth, Clifford Robinson come to mind. Currently Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, Monta Ellis. There are others but I haven't had my caffeine yet.

Agreed. The intent of this thread was to name individuals that you think will be solid contributors that you expect to be drafted after 15 (Gems), or guys you think will be disappointments drafted in the first 11 (Busts).

Guys I want no part of in the top 15:
PG/SG: Soup Juggler/J. Lamb
SF: the Jones boys (in the lotto)
PF: Sullinger
C: Leonard

Gems (outside of the lotto contributors):
PG: Wroten (if not in the 2nd round)
SG: Ross
SF: either one of the Jones Boys (if after 15)
PF: Royce White
C: Zeller, if he's drafted as a more-athletic Joel at #15 or so. If not, maybe Moultrie. This one's tough.

2nd rounders?:
PG: Wroten (if he's a first, then
SG: Kim English or Will Barton
SF: Crowder
PF: O'Quinn
C: Sims (longshot--Bernard James)

First of all, way to commit

secondly, depending on how their workouts went, I wouldn't be devastated if the Blazers took either Jones at #11, assuming they had a pretty damn sure fire way to address the back court through the draft and or FA

I think that both Jones' (I like Perry's head better than Terrence's, but T's on-court game better--especially since PJ3 thinks he's Kevin Durant 2007 playing a 6'10 SG) risks are too high for 11. They could be great or they could be...not. I think TJ could end up as an uber-Odom if he gets his head right. I've seen him do things on the court against GOOD competition that make me shake my head. But I still can't get over his press conference and times I've seen him lose his mind on the court (not like Artest, though).

At 11, ESPECIALLY if there's potential for a trade for someone like Evan Turner, I just think you need more stability in the pick, and I'd pick Ross over these guys.

It will be interesting to see. According to Amick, Golden State moved away from the Jones and are looking at Waiters as they weren't impressed by the Jones boys workouts. I'm not hearing much buzz about either one having good workouts either.

I'm not either. Just more of a what if

Quincy Miller should have stayed in school. I don't know that he will be able to get the minutes he needs to develop. He will be in the pine or in the DL next year.

From the times I watched Mike Scott at Virginia this year, I came away very impressed. Money mid-range jumper. Maybe a Dante Cunningham type player?
