Game Thread 2025-26 GAME #36 - BLAZERS @ SPURS - JANUARY 3, 2026 - FRIDAY - 5:00 PM - KUNP - BLAZERVISION

The team is coming up on having to make a decision on Love and Sidy. Both have played in over 29 games and have a max of 50 games available for them (they don't have to, iirc, play in a game for it to count. If they're available, it counts towards the 50 game total).

They'll need to convert those contracts to guaranteed, or assign them to the g-league for the rest of the year.

I think, barring a trade, their two players who might be unloaded are Rupert and Murray.

I don't know if the league has some kind of lee-way due to injuries or not.

(I'm sure this was brought up already, and maybe even in this thread. So if it was, sorry for bringing it up again)
They're not waiving Murray for our two way guys. They'll move Reath and Thybulle before that happens.

no way am I dropping Murray when Javonte Cooke and Duop Reath are still on our roster.

Yeah, you either convert Sidy to a standard contract via the hardship exception so it doesn't affect our cap. We can do Love too, I don't think. Only one. Or maybe we can do both if we have multiple injured players? Idk.

Or

You trade/waive Reath/Rayan and convert the others, though that will affect our cap if we waive them. Though it's only half a seasons pay so, it might work.

And/or waive Cooke and sign another two way who can actually play.

There's no reason for that dude. I didn't realize sticking up for one of our players was worth insulting another fan over.

Its just some mild ribbing. I don't think Beagle meant to insult you.

I would like to hear it from Tiago as well, but he seems to be a man of few words.

To be fair, when Love biffed it, there wasn’t really any time left to bench him. When Shae was benched, Love was still having a good game.
Oh, I’ve been the one driving the Caleb Love is good train. It was 100% the right decision. Nothing against sharpe, but he’s not good enough nor has he earned the benefit of the doubt to be closing every game regardless of his play.

Another thing: Clingans development over the course of the season has been such a boon for the team. I love how fucking competitive that guy is and I’m happy it’s finally translating on the floor.
He plays like an old vet already. He gets beat sometimes, but he’s tough as nails and is obviously a respected floor general on defense. His presence is felt at all times.

We got the win so that's great. Maybe Shaedon was sick or something.

As far as how Love looked in clutch time he was not good at all. He was out of position on defense and 0 for 2 from three and 1 for 4 from the charity striipe. Again though it's a win and I don't know what might have kept Shaedon on the bench.
Deni suggested a player was sick and playing in his postgame interview.

This team sounded desperately needs shooters. Offense is night and day when they make shots

Fantastic win! I believe we are the only team to now have beaten the following teams:
Boston
Lakers
OKC
SA
Milwaukie
Cleveland
GSW

That is super impressive for a team with a losing record.
If we can add the Knicks and Houston, then we will have proven we can beat the best.

Just need to get fully healthy to spread the minutes back out and get players back into their natural position of play on the court and we will be fine.

Playoffs this year.
Top four in the West next year.

It's like he's Przybilla... with talent!

Well, in that they were both undrafted. But Caleb has a long way to go to match Wes's defense or his reliability from three. Patty Mills, perhaps?
Patty Mills is a decent equivalent. Props to our scouts for finding two way players who have won us maybe 8 games between them, and the coaching staff for being able to use the players effectively. But most importantly, good on the players themselves for seizing the opportunities with both hands. This is a team to be proud of, no matter the record. This is the best 16-20 team in the NBA.

So, your saying that he has become more consistent with consistent playing time? That is how it works for any player, and even more so with a rookie.
You're.

I think Caleb is what he is. And what he is is nearly 2 years older than Shaedon, and a short, very streaky shooter who is ice cold in the clutch (except, apparently, from the free throw line). I think Patty Mills is a great comparison - a fan favorite because he can have offensive explosions and is surprisingly capable when he's on, but is so flawed that he will never be a full time rotation player on a good, healthy team.
