If Tyreke Evans gets bought out (I doubt it, they turned down 2nd rounders but...) we could offer him something no other team could: A starting spot on a playoff team.

Denver
Miami
OKC
Pelicans
Spurs

I think he’d start on all those teams. And he might not start in Boston but he would definitely get heavy minutes.

Tyreke might be one of the few guys worth going back into the tax for. We still have our tax-MLE of $5.2 million. Spurs, Thunder, Pelicans, and Heat all used their MLE or most of it. Miami does have an injury exception and room exception that could come close to our offer but if it came down to money and playing time we'd probably at least have a shot.

I agree but I still don’t think he’ll get bought out. Wouldn’t make sense. Why not just take the second round picks?

Actually, now that I think about it we would probably just put in a waiver claim. According to the CBA you CAN claim a player off of waivers using a trade exception. The one we got for Vonleh would be just enough! The problem is who else would be able to claim him too that is lower than us on the waiver claim list. Right now it's so close between us and some of those teams you mention that it literally could come down to what day he was waived (if he is waived).

Well, one reason would be since Tyreke is making a very low salary this year he could just agree to the buyout for basically $0. Then Memphis would be off the hook for his remaining salary. I agree though that they were very stupid to not get anything for him. I think they thought someone would cave on deadline day and no one did.

Soooo we're gonna try to sign someone.
Yep. So it brings us back to this:

Not Miami but yeah I forget how little wing depth there is in the NBA.

Even though Vince Carter is 41 I would love for the Blazers to try for him if he gets bought out.

I don't think that applies if we claim someone off of waivers, I think their whole contract would count towards our cap number even though we'd only have to pay them for the remainder of the season. It might be different with Rose since he is a minimum contract guy but then wouldn't any team that wants him (like Minnesota) just claim him so it isn't his decision anymore?
That is the way i read it. But if he doesn't want to go there claiming him wouldn't be an option really? I just don't think a team would waste the time without talking to him first.

I'd be down with just about any new blood in here for the rest of the year. There are a few others I'd prefer over him, like Ilyasova if he gets bought out.

I just need to clarify my 'like'. It is for Ilyasova not for your agreement of Rose being on the team.

Yes they do. But this is a former first round #1 pick who was also once an League MVP. You see the difference right?

Oden was a #1 pick too and I wouldn't want him here either. Rose would be subtraction by addition.

We might as well rename this the buyout thread. Portland should be a player for anyone let go.

Not sure about that. He can spark off the bench has had a couple 20+ point games and there is no question that he has experience to give. But don't expect him to shoot threes. That ain't gonna happen.

I'll just clarify that I don't really want Rose BUT it would stir the pot a little which would probably be a good thing.

Your clarification of my clarification has been clarified.

*I would do the cheers emoji if I wasn't on my phone at this time.*

Who are the best free agents playing overseas?

I watch the Spanish league and Anthony Randolph would be such a great fit. He plays for Real Madrid and has really improved his game since leaving the league. Can shoot threes and fits the modern nba. I believe he has an out in his contract as well. Might be more of a signing for next season but maybe?

Stephon Marbury!

Here’s another name: Jarell Eddie. 6’7 220. 26 years old. Averaging 17.5ppg in the g league. Lights out shooter (career 45% 3pt.) Shooting 48% from deep this year on over 7 attempts a game.

This makes it even more likely that Portland will look to sign someone else to fill a roster spot.

Wasn't he on the Celtics roster for a moment? I don't think he got any playing time there though.

I would like us to go for the most promising small forward we can find in the G-League or Europe, kind of what Utah did with Royce O'Neale. He is not amazing but he is probably better than any small forward we have.

Don't go for any guards or bigs, it's pointless. Our rotation is fine in those position but at 3 there is a glaring hole.

Let's find our Covington.

Yeah he was on a ten day contract. They didn’t give him a second one because they wanted to keep a roster spot open for “ballhandlers.”

Eddie does the same things Belinelli does, but of course he hasn’t proven himself in the NBA. He hasn’t gotten a real shot though.

Ah okay.

I'd much rather take a chance on someone who has barely played in this league than go for an average veteran, to be honest. Discovering our own TJ McConnell/Covington/Whiteside as I mentioned would be much better than getting someone who will maybe contribute for 2-3 months but will not have any impact going forward.

Miami got Whiteside on a minimum deal and see how it turned out, he's their biggest star now after Dragic.
