Calabro and Hurd

Yep. Plus with trying to make Portland more of a regional/national figure, sometimes its better to be impersonal. Other cities wont think they are homers and might jump on the national Blazer fandom.

I honestly don't think the Blazers put too much stock into local/metro area fans. We are locked in. What other basketball team can you be a fan of and still go to the games? GSW if your a super rich mofo I guess.
Other than that the Blazers know the local fans have no choice. However the national fans might not bite on homerism and want a bit more professional approach to the commentating.

Either way, I miss mike and mike. no doubt. if your a Blazer fan, im sure you miss them. But again. All season change and this is now a new season and I'm totally happy with the more professional/less biased commentating.
Hmm...you think people are going to become Blazer fans because they appreciate the fact that our announcers are not "homers"?

Ok.

Been trying to like them. Not having much success. The best I can say is there are times when I don't even notice them.

Calabro doesn't seem fully invested (wrong names & score) - but is professional.
Hurd tries too hard. . .

Worst by far is the camera angles and the cuts. We seem to always miss live action :(

I'm noticing this DarkWing guy is slowly chipping away at my empire.....
Here's a serious question for ya....how are the broadcast guys gelling with the team on the road? I'd think Hurd would connect with the young guys on the roster...any insight?

Are you trying to say he drinks like a fish?

I find myself switching to the away broadcasters and not really missing anything. With the Mikes, I would be pissed if the Portland broadcast wasn't on.
I find myself watching Hornets, Bulls, Spurs and Mavericks games just to see the old core play...but don't tell anyone....Nico is having the best success

Calabro's terrific, if a little too impartial. Hurd is good for at least one facepalm per quarter, sometimes two or three.

I'm still mad they got rid of the Mikes.

Someone check to see if Wookee's account has been hacked...

Kevin I get. The guy is a legend in broadcasting, but even as an alumni and HUGE Beaver supporter, I still don't get at all why they went after Lamar Hurd. He just doesn't have "it". I thought he was barely a good fit for the P12N where he was at least a former player.

It's all about making all NBA teams identical, with the white guy, the black guy, and the woman. Hurd's analysis is good, and McGowan hired the religious guy for his 3 or 4 cute little jive-ass pronunciations. 99% of his accent is totally white, it's just 3-4 words he says now and then on purpose to earn his paycheck. He should stop acting argumentative with Calabro. He does it seriously, not intending to be funny, and it isn't funny. The biggest complaint I have is that their chemistry lacks clever little laughs, like Calabro had years ago with colormen Marques Johnson and Mychal Thompson.

You guys keep saying that Calabro is a legend, but to me he's the newcomer who stole Bob Blackburn's Sonic job 30 years ago. Blackburn had a great melodious, almost musical, voice, but apparently Bob Whitsitt didn't like him and made a Kemp/Karl-like discovery in Calabro. (Blackburn could be overdominating sometimes in conversation, but he taught Calabro how to add real time game stats to his play-by-play.)

No please, stereotype more.

If you could escape your narrow-minded school indoctrination, you might learn some history from my posts. Take an acid trip and find out what college was like 40 years ago.

No, that is not what I said, but nice play on words.

As a casual fan of any sport, when watching teams you are impartial about, are you going to watch the game with a more even keeled announcing or are you going to watch the game with homer announcers that are biased?
Most fans are wanting fairness and I would think would choose the more professional even keeled play calling (obviously quality of play in the games plays a factor in what to watch as well)

Many casual fans are turned off by biased announcing. I know I am.

I think this is one of MANY thoughts that came to play when they made the decision to replace the Mikes.

Again. Devout fans are going to watch no matter what. As sucky as it is, we have less value to the team than the casual fan they want to reel in. Its business. Business and homerism never mix.

Honestly any national game, I'm switching to that. With mike and mike, I never did that. Hurd and colabro are boring, Hurd tries way too hard and is super cringe. Yeah colabro sounds professional. Cool, I guess. Would still take mike and mike any day of the week. They fit well together, their commentary and stories were great, they talked like they actually gave a fuck about the team they were broadcasting for. I'm not feeling this change. I tune them out honestly. At least when we were being blown out I could just listen to mike and mike and instantly feel less salty about the game.

So everyone who has ever went to college and got an education is narrow-minded? Interesting. It's usually viewed the opposite way, is it not?

KC has improved from game 1 to where he is now.
At the very least he doesn't talk as fast.
Hurd... at least I've developed the ability to tune his "Basketball analysis out".

Though I'm still stuck on the Grizz game when KC said. "Damian sets his tootsies..."

To me, this is why ESPN basketball is boring to watch.

Don't kid yourself. It's not about diversity. It's about market quotas and appealing to demographics to get money.

Do enough of this and everything is bland and nothing fits. Like, seriously, do you really think these demographics hang out in their spare time? Most likely not. There's no chemistry there.

Now, contrast this with TNT where most of these guys are black former NBA players who are all around the same age. Meanwhile, you have your straight man moderator type white guy in Ernie. When you watch them, it's like hanging out with "the guys" for a beer. It's fun. They all get along. There's chemistry. And they can talk about a myriad of social issues in an honest and meaningful way, even if the viewer or they all don't agree with one another.

That's real diversity right there and not the politicized/corporatized BS.

Reading the GT. did this asshole actually call us the Sonics? And no apology or my bad afterward? That's just bad fucking karma.

Get rid of him. I was such a huge KC supporter. Man was i wrong

I missed it the first time. I had to re-suffer through the last couple minutes of the game to see if Calabro really called us the Sonics. And he did, indeed:

"Turnovers have been the bane of the Sonics- err the Blazers here tonight. It has been the absolute toughest part of watching this ball game..."

No, he didn't apologize, but everyone makes mistakes sometimes. You can't fault the guy, especially since he was in the presence of Mr. Sonic himself.

Couldn't believe he did that but maybe Nate being in the house had some influence. To be honest, I don't think anyone would give a rats patootie if this team was playing better and not vomiting in the 3rd or 4th quarter of practically every game of late. As it is, now just pouring salt in the wound.

I don't think he is garbage, but man I agree with you that this was a huge mistake

I somewhat disagree. He HAS to be aware of the fans' concerns about Paul moving this team to Seattle and he knows his history with the Sonics. If there is one thing he absolutely can't do, its refer to us as the Sonics.
On a season with such preseason hype quickly turning to a season of mediocrity, the fans are already somewhat disappointment and for him to do that, could just be the icing on the cake for us to just turn the channel.

I don't think it's the end all, and i'm not advocating he has to go like Yayuza, but it's a slip of the tongue that just can't happen again. Under any circumstances or I would think he would be very close to out the door.
