Well if you want stem cell research in your state, Californians have to pay for it. That's the way it goes. Nobody from other states is going to have to pay for it. It will pay off in the long run though because now those businesses will be based there. At least a few of them will make it, much like Pharmeceutical companies of the past.

I voted against it. There is little accountability and was done purely based on the hype at the time. Taxpayers shouldn't be funding private, for profit companies and allowing them to set up shop. $6 billlion dollar bond over 10 years. ridiculous. meanwhile, hospitals left and right are closing due to bad management and lack of funding.

They were funding research. The only restriction was it had to take place in California. The government has been funding research of various types for years, this is nothing new.

If a business thinks its a good business, they should fund it themselves, not the California taxpayer. In the end, this is fucking over the state which is out of money and spending themselves into hell. Look at the current situation for the state.

The problem with things like Stem Cell Research and "green energy", something that California is trying to be pioneers in, is that it is impractical, costs a shitload of money..but in the eyes of most of california, its them being progressive for the sake of being progressive. So the state issues loans, bonds, tax incentives and all of that for basically technologies that are not-profitable, too expensive, not developed, and are basically "feel good social mesures". Look at solar energy, do you know how fucking expensive it is to set up one of those systems? You won't get to recoup your costs for like 20 years....its a microcosm of california, it really is.

Its the most fucked state right now, and I blame spending on these types of programs as well as the amount of welfare paid out by the state.

Weed is another example. Its trying yet again to be a "social pioneer" here. While it will generate tax revenue, its just the general attitude of california which keeps on getting itself fucked more and more into debt. Its so obsessed with being so socially responsible, they don't take the bottom line into consideration.

A satellite launched from California failed to reach orbit today, crashing into the sea near Antarctica and dooming a $273 million mission to study global- warming gases.

Instead, the satellite fell into the ocean near Antarctica. The mission manager said at no point did the craft pass over land.

“It’s a huge disappointment for the entire team who have worked very hard for years and years and years,” NASA Launch Director Chuck Dovale said in a briefing from California. “Even when you do your very best, you can still fail.”

The Orbiting Carbon Observatory satellite didn’t reach orbit after a 1:55 a.m. launch because the “payload fairing” failed to separate, NASA said. The fairing covers the top of the satellite during launch and needs to come off so the satellite can detach from the rocket and enter orbit.

I read somewhere that California has to take it's budget, and then add 10% to cover programs for illegal aliens. That is a pretty decent chuck of change when you consider how huge our budget is here.

I have heard of Superbud, not sure if it's the same.

I was a fan Cinderella 99 by the Brothers Grimm. High of a sativa strain, but the growing habits of a indica strain. When I used pot for pain I spent $75 for 5 seeds of C99 from Heaven's Stairway. Best $75 I ever spent!

The problem with this line of logic is that California doesn't have problems due to lack of industry, or lack of economy, or lack of business, etc. We have issues due to the ridiculous spending and number of people we have to support.

Weed is practically legal in the state of California already. There's plenty of medical marijuana businesses, I have some friends who own and operate a couple, and you just need a prescription from a doctor to buy from them.

The City of Mendocia's economy is pretty much funded by weed. There was good documentary on it by CNN.

You are saying that because of the way that your government is spending money, they shouldn't invest in technology which will bring in more money. Those are two exclusive issues. One is an investment which will, down the line, bring in more revenue for the state. A lot more revenue. Secondly you are saying that California doesn't have any problems with lack of industry or lack of economy? What is California exclusively lacking with the problem the rest of the country has with unemployment and economic problems? No they aren't. So I have no idea what you are talking about up above.

Lastly, did you ever stop to think that medical research that benefits mankind has to paid for from somewhere. Research isn't free. The benefit is, down the line it saves peoples lives or improves their quality of life while suffering from medical isdues.

No, that isn't what I'm saying. Don't build strawmen.
The way California spends money, they should be letting the much more efficient private sector handle things. As Eric mentioned, California and its government always thinks they are being so progressive, without looking at the alternative side of things.

Ironic coming from somebody that, if I remember correctly, fully supports nationalized or social healthcare. I'm perfectly fine with medical research. It turns out, around here, we are really good at it without the government getting in the way.
