Fucking ridiculous

So he must have lied on the form where it asks if he is a US citizen. Shouldn't that DQ him?

Ugh this shit pisses me off. Fucking Liberals

You really have to read the comments at the end of the story. Some of them are great (or not great).

This is great news. When illegals start doing jobs the liberal still want they will see what their careless attitude towards immigration is getting them.

No shit.

Funny how someone who had to lie and was living illegally is going to be a lawyer. Or is it not so funny?

Illegal aliens only take demeaning jobs which Real Americans refuse to do, like lawyering.

...and carpentry, and drywalling, and floor tiling/carpet laying and fence building and landscaping and LOTS of other Prevailing Wage Rate jobs that are meant to help give legal US citizens a family-wage job on large public works projects. So, we all pay higher prices for public construction work, with a lot of the 'extra' wages going to illegals. Yay.

In this economy, I'm sure that there are no legal citizens that would work for $35 an hour.

My guess is he will have to pay taxes on his earnings (a lot if he is Cali) but will be ineligible for social security.

The California Supreme Court granted a law license on Thursday to a man living in the United States illegally who graduated from law school and passed the state bar exam.

The decision means Sergio Garcia can begin practicing law despite his immigration status.

Garcia had challenged a 1996 federal law that bars people living in the country illegally from receiving professional licenses from government agencies or with the use of public funds, unless state lawmakers vote otherwise.

Shortly after the court heard arguments in the case, California Gov. Jerry Brown signed a state law that authorized the granting of the license. The new law went into effect Jan. 1.

Garcia arrived in the U.S. illegally 20 years ago to pick almonds with his father and worked at a grocery store and in the fields while attending school.

The case has pitted the Obama administration, which opposes licensing Garcia, against state officials who have supported him.

Liked that part about the administration. Don't know what to think of it really.

Immigration status aside . . . we put basketball players on pedestals for their god gifted talent. Sergio came to this country probably not speaking a word of english, doing seasonal farming work and working in a grocery store . . . and manged to get himself into and graduate from law school and pass the bar exam.

In any other world people would tip their hat to a guy like this. In US, we bow to Lebron and say Sergio is a problem in our society and an injustice to American citizens.

My reading of the article is that he was initially going to be denied, but the state legislature passed a law allowing him to become a lawyer and governor moonbeam signed it.

So the laws conflict. Those of you who are so stuck on the law being upheld might consider the new law was.

I just read an SJ Mercury News article with more details. The guy has been waiting for his green card to be approved for ten years, or more.

There are green card rules for illegal immigrants to become legit, and additional rules for children of illegals.

If I break into your house will you pat me on the back if I do your laundry? He can't be any worse than every other scumbag lawyer, he just shouldn't have been here in the first place.

I'm pretty surprised that the Prez would take that position....but good on him!

Besides the fact that this is obviously a more complicated situation than is being portrayed, I don't understand the outrage. Illegals are not going away no matter what we do, what's wrong with having them pay taxes and contributing to society with skills they have?

Why not? Because it's the law?

The law is inhumane and wrong, so fuck it.

For me the 'outrage' has to do with the lies we've been fed for years about illegals only wanting work that US citizens don't want. It was a lie then and it's a lie now.

I realize that it's not going to change. The Democrats want the votes the illegal agenda brings them and the Republicans want cheap labor. Who's going to rock the boat?

That doesn't mean it doesn't piss me off.

There are probably a billion people that would like to come to the US. Why should latinos go to the front of the line over all other countries in the world?

I would say thats largely true but not completely true. The examples you give are good ones of problem areas, trade type jobs suffer badly from immigration issues especially in the SW. Seems like our current policy is to pretend like the problem doesnt exist rather than dealing with it on a real level though. For instance making illegals pay taxes by legitimately working will help everyone in those industries and drive prices for labor up as cheaper illegal options will be less.

If you were homeless and had no where to go . . . I probably still wouldn't want you breaking into my house. But given the fact you had and no ill will and even made my house a better place to live, I wouldn't press charges.

But I could see how that would piss a lot of people off.

I like the idea of hiring a lawyer to mow my lawn.

Did I say that? I don't know where you're getting that from.
