I think he has the tools to be a multi-time all-star and a top 10 player in the league. I also have a gut feeling he will get there in 4-5 years. I voted Superstar because I’m feeling optimistic. :-)

So far, I haven't heard from one legitimate scout that Shaedon Sharpe isn't going to be a star. Not one. Usually there's some polarization on projecting players. Not Sharpe. Everyone agrees that he has star potential.

I think he's going to be a star. He seems to know it as well. I'm more interested to see how long it'll take to get going.

In an interview with Shams when asked “what is Shaedon Sharpe like on the day-to-day”, he said “I’m a chill, low-key, laid back guy. Just like to chill, watch Netflix, play video games, hang out with family and friends”. When asked what he was watching he said Vampire Diaries and Riverdale.

That doesn’t seem to sound like someone who would be distracted by other things not basketball. The fact that he doesn’t speak well isn’t a matter of immaturity.

If he's a superstar, the Blazers will win 3 out of the next 4 championships. He has incredible upside, but until i at least see him in the Summer League, i really can't say. Dame owned his Summer League. I hope Sharpe does as well. Bottom line: the better he is, the better our Blazers will be. Go Blazers!

Yeah I guess I figured that saying “I’m going to see what happens in summer league first” was kind of boring. Royce White looked great in summer league from what I remember then for some reason couldn’t fly on planes.

I’m just excited that if we hit on Sharpe, we won’t have to draft a guard again for at least another half decade. Dame for another 3-6 years, then Ant and Sharpe for at least another 4-8.

If we develop a track record of being able do develop these so called “projects”, I don’t mind drafting raw prospects the same way OKC has every year. Still two more years until we see what Greg Brown becomes.

Is that really fair to Sharpe though? Dame played 4 years of college ball before that. Sharpe is gonna have some growing pains. To think he should or you hope he has the same 1st summer league as dame is asking for a lot.

I think Sharpe will succeed, but it will take some time.

I thought if he is able to contribute with legitimate minutes, and we are successful (playoffs with HCA) then he has a very good chance of winning ROY and is therefor underrated at +1200 odds.

But that will be asking a lot of him, and truthfully it’s probably more likely that Banchero or Smith win ROY because of the amount of possessions and opportunities they will have with ORL and HOU.

People will probably be upset if he doesn’t contribute a lot this season. But they shouldn’t be surprised. He could very well find himself behind some of our other young players.

Regardless he will likely find himself as the 4th or 5th option anyways if he’s playing a lot of minutes, which also hurts his ROY chances.

I mention ROY because he could stand to win it if he’s going to be considered some of these poll options. We’ve seen ROY’s bust overall (MCW), but you often see deserving players win it, and it’s not uncommon for the ROY to be a future All-Star.

Jay Bilas said he had franchise talent

Mike Irving from SI said he’s a special talent with a limitless ceiling

Givony said after a workout that he looked like the #1 pick in the draft….talent

I think he is immature, has a questionable work ethic, and has no game time will to win experience.

He has all the physical gifts and an NBA body.

I do think he could not ask for a better mentor than Lillard. If he listens to Billups and Lillard he could be special.

But the question is, will he listen? Will he be satisfied being a roleplayer on a playoff-focused team?
Based on what? Everything I've heard says the opposite.

It looks as if Cronin was zeroed in on him quite early. The person with the most intel and time spent scouting of him was hired away from ESPN (Schmidt) and his analysis of him is great potential in the right situation.

I don’t know about you but bringing a barely 19 yr old in and having very little pressure to perform initially with a veteran of Dames worth paired with the coaching approach that is Chauncey and the other coaches on staff to learn from. I think this kid is in the right place to succeed!

plus going at Dame and Ant in practice daily will be huge.

That's what I meant. Auto-correct is the devil.

Yup, if your ass can use google to make sure the numbers aren’t ridiculously off, I think you’re good dude.
Historically, self reported "measurements" can be very off from whats actually what. Some players list their actual height while others list shoes on and then round way up. Case in point, looks like Shaedon is going to be listed almost 2" taller then he actually is. Lacking actual measurements so we can go apples to apples, I think it's pretty ridiculous for someone to claim that one players measurements are "superior" to another's

many superstars weren't near that level until several seasons after their career started & clearly Sharpe is both young and needing to improve his skills. I have legit hopes that he reaches that level someday but have no hopes of Portland winning 3-4 next championships

Isiah Rider, Uh Oh! Don't want that bagage .
Isiah Rider was a beast. Just a few lightbulbs short upstairs.
I remember one play that showed what he could do if motivated.
He took a midrange jumpshot that bounced off the rim down the left baseline. There were other players in the area, but Rider raced over to grab the rebound, dribbled to the hoop and slammed down a ferocious dunk.
Kind of reminiscent of how Lebron plays sometimes.

I voted multiple time all star, but I really wanted to vote superstar. I think that if he put it all together, he’ll be a 10x all star. I saw people talk about Sharpe being immature and stuff about his IG. At this point, I don’t see how anyone can expect a 19 year old to be immature or has heard him talk enough to make any kind of assessment on his maturity. I also don’t see anything bad on his IG. Chauncey likened Sharpe’s demeanor to Ant’s during his intro press conference. Ant’s next step in his leadership might have to be guiding Sharpe through his journey, as someone who’s already gone through the HS to NBA path. Everything Sharpe has to succeed is in Portland, I’m sure his representation saw that as well.

As far as player projections. He’s got superior measurements compared to guys like him in recent drafts like Jalen Green and Anthony Edwards, so I actually like him more as a prospect for the Blazers than either guy. He has the ability to get up like them, but based on his highlights, he plays more like Bradley Beal mixed with Paul George.

My floor for him would be a better shooting/defending version of Will Barton.

My ceiling for him would be a more efficient but smaller version of Paul George.

No one likes a prospect that falls in love with his jumpshot, but in Sharpe’s case where we barely have any tape, we know that he at least projects to be a player who can get his own shot. That was the biggest knock on PG as a prospect, but I expect Sharpe to be further along on that side of the ball sooner. His shot isn’t picture perfect, but he was hitting his 3s easy in HS like Ant showed in his tapes. He has a strong lower body and is further along physically than Ant was as well.

Chauncey has stressed wanting to be known as a defensive coach, I’m not too worried about that side of the ball either. My only fear with him would be not getting the playing time to develop sooner than later.

"My only fear with him would be not getting the playing time to develop sooner than later."

This is my fear too. I think it is much more likely that he'll get underplayed instead of overplayed. I don't think it's even possible to overplay him ( from the standpoint of his development).
He should definitely get playing time even if he doesn't "deserve it."
Look at Drazen Petrovic and Jermaine O'Neal.
Especially O'Neal. He was with the team for 4 seasons and obviously the Blazers had no clue what he would become. Why didn't they know? Not enough playing time.

I think being a high lotto pick, we’ll probably be put in a position where we’ll be pressured to give him minutes and I’m all for that. I’m hoping to get enough to Sharpe to decide on Hart’s future with the team.

It's like Paul Allen picked him via seance.

I hope he'll be great, but all the yellow flags around how he came to the draft in the first place make me a little uncomfortable about him.

Zach Randolph would be out of business in todays day and age.

I dunno, young Zach who was the ultimate tip-in garbage man would still do well, but starter-era Zach? Yeah he would be out of the league.
