The Oregonian reports that the cash sent totaled $1.5 mil, rather than the initially mentioned $3mil.

Hi guys, the situation with my father's cancer has deteriorated and so I've been away from the boards to deal with myriad family, house and estate issues. Just wanted to say KP has restored my faith in his abilities as a GM and in this team in general. Fantastic move!

Haven't had time to read this thread. I'm seeing this as a big expiring for deals on draft night and a short term fix in the front court. Is that how you guys are reading it?

Nah. It's need on our end, and the Clips settling for straight cash, homie. We can't trade Camby (and they can't trade Blake or Outlaw) between the deadline and when their contract expires on Jun 30, anyway. I see it as us getting a starting center for our scraps and some cash savings and earnings. We are in the same salary cap situation this summer we would've been in.

Any of these guys can be traded until the trade deadline if they go out by themselves in the new deal.

But the Blazers are also responsible for Camby's bonus payments for the whole year...not just a prorated portion. When you add that to the straight 1.5M cash I think that's where the 3M number comes from.

Ah, thanks. The other $1.5 doesn't go into Sterling's pockets.

That's the way I read it...but I'm not positive. And the $1.5M doesn't go into his pockets, but he does avoid $1.5M leaving his pockets

It must really suck having an owner like that...

The way I see it, the Clippers were not going to make the playoffs. So why shouldn't their owner save as much green as possible? It's not going to change the end result.

I agree with you... as long as I have confidence that the owner will spend money when it will matter. The Clippers have an uneven history of doing that.

Of course, they haven't had many times when it "matters". :)

So I was thinking about the positives here. Here is how I see it:

We have one of the premier shot blockers of all time here now (IMO). This is a time where some learning can take place. Our defensive players should be sponging off of his knowledge as much as possible. At the same time, this affords the team a chance to do something it has not had a chance to do much in the past. They will now be able to practice against a premier shot blocker. One problem the team has had in the past, is the ability to attack a shot blocker. Some younger players like Bayless and Rudy, get owned quite often by those types, and I seem to remember Bayless getting owned by Camby in the past a few times. When they get to see it every day, it will make it so that when it comes to a normal game, they will be ready for it. Like by playoff time.

Howard going to the bench will solidify that unit.

Guard rotation is now established. Now we will get a trial by fire, a trial I have been asking for a long time. Let's find out if these guys can truly play. Let's see if they can get some consistency. If they don't, we know what we have and can move on. If they do, were set.

I heard Camby was gonna purposely suck for you guys...sort of a protest

I heard he was going to send me $20,204 in cash... because I'm sort of awesome.

Is this your Hourly Legal Fee for NBA players or just for Canby? :devilwink:

ooh resigning him would be lethal if oden and pryz come back srtrong.

Camby isn't going to be at all happy getting reserve minutes. At best, I could see him returning if the Blazers expect to get nothing from Przybilla. Then Portland could use an Oden/Aldridge/Camby big man rotation, and they could all play 30+ minutes.

Bringing shot-blocking and perimeter shooting off the bench at the backup 4? I like it.

I am with you on that. The one thing you want your second unit to do is hustle. He could be a rich mans version of the Birdman.

Awesome!

Another great thing is that guys who come to Portland, even against their will, tend to really like it here. A guy like Camby who really seems to hate change may finish off the season with a really, really positive impression of Blazers management, the team, and the city. It makes us at least in the running for his services next year when he'll be 36 and likely looking at just making the final years of his career last, which he could do backing up Aldridge and Oden/Przybilla. It certainly doesn't sound like the Clippers are an option for him anymore.

Yeah, he's something of a stat whore under the rim. But we've got a really good help defender in Batum who can see the play develop and rotate over to block out Camby's man when Camby goes for the block. Between Batum, Aldridge and Camby, there are going to be a thicket of long arms between the ball and the hoop.

And we haven't even really talked much about what this means for Bayless. No more looking over your shoulder for the quick hook, JB, because 27 mpg of guard play just got freed up!

I'm a little disappointed the Tyrus Thomas deal is dead. I was kind of warming to that one. But I'm not nearly so disappointed that I'm going to complain about getting Camby!

He's getting great weather today. But, it's still no San Diego.

7 pts, 12 rebounds and almost 2 blocks per game incoming.

Does this mean now that Blake is gone, we can actually run on the break?:devilwink:

And, we'll get to the free throw line more.

We'll get 4 more free throw attempts per game now that Blake is gone than we did the games that Blake started the last 2 years.

Those 4 extra free throws are going to be the difference between winning and losing a lot of games.

We're instantly a .650 team now.

Even at 36/37 years old? You'd have to think as he gets older he would accept a lesser role.

He never did anything to lose your faith. That's all in your head.

The dude's gonna be 36 next month... do you think he'd possibly settle for 20ish minutes a game (with no injuries) on a team that's got a chance to challenge for a title?

He's played over 30mpg each of the last seven seasons (including this one) so... maybe he wouldn't, in spite of his advancing age. (And, yes, he's a bit younger than I am... haha.)
