So if we tell you we like to jump off cliffs...?

Good to know that those on the right will only jump as high as those on the left tell them to. No "holier than thou" here.

Let me put it this way. If you want to find a cliff and jump, I won't stop you. No reach out and touch from me.

Take barfo with you.

What happened is we had wars in Korea and Vietnam. In order to keep our supply lines short, we had spare parts and other gear built in Japan. That was a lot of our government money going to build up Japan's manufacturing. After a while, Japan was kicking our ass - they were buying movie studios and skyscrapers, here in the USA, in the 1980s, and their corporations dwarfed our largest.

What also happened is we have been generous in rebuilding Japan's and Germany's (among others, see Marshall Act) factories. They were newer than ours, more modern. At our expense.

We're also generous in how we give away money to other countries. $billions to Egypt and Israel, yearly. Foreign aid of all kinds to assorted countries. Money that could build infrastructure here but isn't.

We also made China MFN and shipped our manufacturing to their slave wage sweat shops. Our trade deficit with China alone is near $500B, if not more.

Other countries dump product in ours. We used to make steal. Then we were shipping our junk metal to Japan where they recycled it all and sold it back to us.

Other countries apply other unfair trade practices. Our private companies like Boeing are hurt by European governments subsidizing AirBus, for example.

We also made a number of trade deals that seem to have hurt. Our companies move manufacturing to Mexico because we incentivize them to do so. If you actually listen to Trump, he says those deals are bad and that we got a much worse deal than our partners. I think there's some merit to that, but I also think there's reasons it is OK to be helping other nations.

Our government cannot control its spending. In order to pay for what it cannot afford, the government borrows money from China (and other countries). We spend it on food stamps, which literally turns to shit. They end up holding bonds that the US pays interest on, and pays back the principal, too. We're taxing ourselves and sending $400B+ in interest payments to the Chinese.

US Steel manufacturing here in the homeland is not just owned by American Corporations...Germany owns steel plants here as do India, Taiwan, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, etc.....made in USA isn't necessarily owned by USA......

Doesnt matter. Its still melted and manufactured in the USA And thats all that matters.
When it comes to restrictions of types of materials, i see and review these documents every day for companies building large structural projects like stadiums and skyscrapers.
Mtrs. Material test reports.
More and more im seeing companies require m&m, (melted and manufactured in the USA). It doesn't matter whether it comes from an American Mill, An Arabic Mill or an Asian Mill (some of the largest steel producers) as long as it is created in the states it will pass.
However we dont have the surplus of raw metals some other countries do, plus our wages are more, so m&m material costs more.

If the rise in costs of m&m continue over the course of the next two quarters, it could have a very real impact on large construction projects. Many many jobs are impacted when large construction comes to a hault. Has much more of an impact than just those on the job sites. Concrete companies, longhaul trucking. Etc.

So i have mixed feelings about how we are making america great again. I agree with trying to keep the work here but it is much easier said han done without causing some potentially large economic ripples.

However we dont have the surplus of raw metals some other countries do,
nah..OB...Asian manufacturers don't have resources for steel....they buy scrap metal and recycle it...every use Taiwanese nails? They're useless....we have way more resources than most countries with manufacturing bases do.

It doesn if we spout nationalistic business tariffs behind the buy American slogan....it's completely misleading...the economy is global...no denying that

Congrats. You seem to have moved past blind hatred to actual policy. Maybe there's some hope for you after all :)

I don't have mixed feelings....I think Trump is making a really dumb move here.

Not liking Trump is not blind hatred...it's standing behind one's value systems...as I've said...mine are not for sale. Blind hatred would be hating him because of his hairdo if you've never seen him....I've seen and heard this guy lie for decades....he hasn't changed either...being an asshole in his case comes from decades of practice. Blind support would be cheering for him because he made you money short term

I basically stopped reading there
I get the feeling you don't read anything that doesn't support your allegiance to the Don.......that's alright...TRUST.....takes a value system to trust someone ..mine is intact...yours seems to have flipped over..which is fine....just stop knocking on my door with the sales promo package

No, I stated my reasons. You cannot state my reasons for me with any authority.
pot...kettle...black....UCD can state anything he wants....some, however have a free pass here when it comes to authority

For what it's worth I do have my fingers crossed that the country stumbles through this mess intact and hopefully good prevails wherever it can...I'm hardly a Nihilist when it comes to the state of the nation....hopefully we raise the bar for electing people moving forward...isolationism and cold war posturing is not going to solve our problems.

I apologize to Stevens for being a non republican and weighing in here....I know it's not what he was looking for when it comes to input...he's one of my favorite posters around here

China! Mexico! Mexico! Russians! Canada, Korea, Germany, and all those shithole countries too:MARIS61:
fixed......I'm over the election...it's the corruption I'm concerned with and the lack of truth by our elected officials...you can ignore it...I can't

Not liking him for his hair doesn't mean you are blind. It means you can see and aren't a moron. That hair is terrible.

I can defend him on many things, that hair ain't one of them. He needs to shave it off.

Curious what things you can defend him on? I don;t see much to like as his tax plan was a complete joke. It's like forming two lines and the 1% on one side and the rest of us on the other and Trump is handing out peanuts. The 1% get a bag of peanuts and the other line is told they will get 4 peanuts but when all is said and done we only get one peanut. Meanwhile corporations are getting mega peanuts. Like many of his accomplishments he claims it was the biggest tax cut ever where in reality Obama had two larger as well as other presidents who have had bigger.

I made a sarcastic joke about his hair. No need to expand on it. We're not in WW3 yet. (Yet)

Here in the OT, we mostly know where we all stand politically. My left leaning and dislike of Trump is no secret. So I get that I don't get some things about Trump.

Please help me understand this:

Doesn't all of the stuff you hear about him and his administration bother you? Are you simply willing to overlook these things just so a conservative agenda can be enacted? Specifically I am asking about

Russia: Just yesterday the head of the NSA says he has not been told to try to shutdown future Russian hacking. And the sanctions passed by Congress have not been enacted by the President. And his National Security Advisor has plead guilty to a felony. Etc. His pandering to Russian interests is so obvious to me. Not you?

Security: You were the ones crying about the lack of security of Hillary's emails. Does it not bother you that Trump's staff cannot pass background checks?

Infidelity: Two affairs - one with a porn star and one with a Playboy Bunny - in just the past few years.

To quote the King of Siam: "Etc., etc., etc."

How do you ignore all that? Not looking for a fight - I really don't get it.
Step 1. Dont be a cuck
Step 2. ??????
Step 3. America is great again. Thanks bush!

You don’t get it?? Really? How do the Hillary Clinton supporters overlook the massive amounts of money that foreign countries “coincidentally” donated to the Clinton Foundation while she was Secretary of State?? How do you overlook her 31,000 deleted emails, or her orchestrating the sale of 20% of our uranium supply to Russia, or paying a former British spy for fabricated stories on Trump, not to mention her efforts to destroy all the women who came forward to accuse her husband of sexual misconduct long before the “MeToo” movement began? You overlook it all because you support her agenda. Hope that helps!!

I got it now. He can read minds.

Hate speech is recognizable. That's the difference.

Good morning riverman!

I have a question for you;
Why does this picture of Trump offend you? And I assume it does, because you post it without comment.

It does not offend me. And I wonder, why the difference?

Would I do what he is doing? No, but it does not offend me if he does, since I know whom will be offended.

Is this one offensive? It was when he was making fun of someone. Our President.
