OMG my level of respect for Olshey reached an all-time high! I absolutely love him. This was calculated and he reacted exactly how a fed up player would react. I bet all the players in Portland smiled that day.

No... it was bad... very bad... Olshey mean to press... press now hate Olshey... write bad things about him... now no one want to trade with Olshey... team screwed.

Neil got annoyed about a question, that's fine, it happens.

It was kind of lame to bring up Ben Golliver though. I'm not really a fan of Ben, but he basically slammed Ben and then tried to smooth it over on the fly. That was unprofessional, in my opinion.

I like it, but that's because I think Ben is a douché

Olshey misspoke, should have said Ben compiled all the Aldridge stories instead of copying and pasted them. What was fucked up is how quick the press was quick to start laughing and snickering when Olshey said that. I read Ben's stuff over Dwight's and Canzano's.

Yeah, I think Neil said the wrong thing about Golliver, but it was refreshing to hear him put the shitdigger 'journalists' in their place.

What you think of Ben is irrelevant. The remark made Ben look bad and he wasn't even the guy asking the question.

Ben has not been a Saint. He's had his fair share of Blazer bashing that I believe Olshey has read.

None of that matters though Mags. To call him out in front of the entire press corp like that was unprofessional.

You dont see Ben crying about it..in fact, I do not believe that it was intended as a slight. All in all, much ado about nothing.

He doesn't have to. He has his buddy Canzano to lead the crusade.

I'm just saying, the part where he got annoyed about Aldridge wasnt' really a story to me. I just think, from my experience, to call out a member of the media and make them look bad in front of their colleagues is lame.

"Here's Ben Golliver from Blazersedge, who basically copies and pastes every article that's written about everybody about the Trail Blazers."

There is a stigma against web journalists. I know because I experienced it first hand. For Neil to say this during a press conference is extremely embarrassing for Ben.

Ben should be thrilled. What other websites or publications did Neil give free advertising to? He specifically said Ben from BlazersEdge, and then basically pointed out they they repost information about the Blazers. I bet their visibility has increased since yesterday. Who cares that it was in front of other media members. It's not like they are going to use it to talk trash to him.
I am sure Neil probably talked to both Jay and Ben later and smoothed it over. If anyone is to blame for making it a bigger deal in terms of the media, it is Canzano. His tweets basically made sure the rest of the media saw it.

But all in all I think Neil got his point across pretty well.

I loved Oshey's response! I agree with the idea of taking one for the team . . . maybe the press will be more reluctant to ask LA the same question day after day.

But I'll say this much, Olshey better hope the new players performs well. Because if they under perform or this team turn into a lottery team, the press will have a field day with Olshey . . . double guessing him and making him look incompetent for wasting cap space on scrubs. The press can be very effective in resonating with the fans when things are bad and I'm guessing Canzano (at the least) is ready to throw Olshey under the bus the first chance he gets.

Maybe. But I believe Canzano has zero credibility.

Is that bad. I heard it as a source for all Blazer articles can be found at Blazer's Edge. I thought NO was using Ben as a reference saying look at every article that quotes LA (which can be found at Blazer's Edge) and you won't find one article where LA says he wants to be traded.

From how it was said, it made Ben sound like he just copies and pastes what other people write. That's the reason why there was snickers and chuckles. You might be right, he may get more attention from this, but from where I stand it was an unprofessional thing for Neil to say.

Well I believe you couldn't get as much talent with one player than we did with the combination of players. We had a terrible bench and still made a run for the playoffs. With an actual bench, I can't see how we won't be much better than last season.

I think there is a stigma against journalist period. Respect for their profession has taken a huge hit over the years. Print, TV, Web.....many do all three and I am not sure people in general differentiate between them anymore. A lot of bad apples made that happen.

My point is if somehow that happens (worse than last year), Canzano could have a field day with it.

I'm talking about a stigma among journalists. It's better than it was, but when I first covered the team in 2002-2003, a web journalist was a third-class citizen (below radio). Ben doesn't have a pedigree. He's a dude who loved the team and started writing about them online. That's not much different than anyone on this forum. When Neil says that he basically just copies and pastes other people's work, that makes him look bad. It diminishes what he does. Trust me, I'm sure there's still a prevailing opinion among print journalists that web guys are not "real journalists" and that's why you could hear the snickers and laughs in the background.

funny how you perceive it as such. I watched again, I see it far differently. He was more focused on the fact that Ben was accumulating every article, made a point of giving an overview of several, showing that he did indeed follow. I feel that he used Ben as the expert source, more a compliment I would think, than a slam.
